This is one of the best IPA’s available! The unfiltered version is by far the way to go, must drink from a glass to ensure a nice stirrup for full flavor. Phenomenal smell, perfect for any season. Packs a punch without a heavy taste, light (but thick) and smooth.

Just plain good as all Sculpin varieties go! This is what I crave when I want a kickass IPA...not too bitter and plenty of fruit flavor. Well balanced all the way thru

Never been impressed by the regular sculpin. Oily, piney, floral, it smells like perfume, but tastes like it too. When I saw that this was extra-hopped and unfiltered, I once again had hope for this beer--hopes which were not unfounded.

L: Lots of lacing. I think more so than the unfiltered version. Other than that, looks the same, except for the cloudiness of the yellow body and the chunks floating around it.

S: YES. This is a proper San Diego Pale Ale. Reminds me of Aurora Hoppyalis by Karl Strauss. Lemon, orange, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit and mango lead, with just a faint hint of white bread at the finish. No detectable roast notes.

T: Way better than the normal version. Fruit is much more detectable. Lemon first again, then it sweetens up a lot with pineapple, peach, apricot, orange, and passionfruit, then orange rind, floral rosewater, and a solid dose of pine on the finish. Almost no malt to speak of. Well-hopped. I'm impressed.

F: Nice and creamy with a crisp and non-oily finish. I don't know for what reason this brewery would filter this beer. Or how the hell it remains so popular despite. It has an excellent texture which is clearly ruined by filtering. Get your shit together, world.

O: Incredibly distinct from the original. I'd give regular Sculpin maybe a 3.75-4 overall, but this one gets an A (94). Probably falls around #15 on the list of best single IPA's I have tried yet.

Didn't get the freshes bottle, but taking that into consideration, this one has a thin-to-medium, slightly off-white head, a murky, opaque orange appearance, lots of gray chunks, and not too much glass lacing (duh- unfiltered). Aroma is of somewhat turned fruit, strong malt, and not-so-strong, fruity hop resin. Taste is similar to the aroma, so we are seeing this ale at a transformative stage. Mouthfeel is medium, and Unfiltered Sculpin finishes mostly dry. Yes, I'd love to have it very fresh, but even at months old, it is still a most excellent offering, if one is willing to take the age into account.

Golden hazy, visible particules. 2 finger frothy head, slowly diminishing, excellent lacing.
High aroma of hops upfront, tropical fruits mango, pineapple.
Very high hop flavor, grapefruit like.
High bitterness, low level of sweet grainy feeling that balance biterrnes.
Medium body, average carbonation, oily, some salty notes, long lasting strong dry finish very pleasent. Some alcohol notes.

Marvellous beer

Look -- Slight hazy yellow appearance with a white foam head
Smell -- Smells of freshly squeezed orange juice, lemon, a sweet smelling brew
Taste -- Slight bitterness, juicy, orange, lemon, and apricot
Feel -- Light to medium body feel
Overall -- If you never had an unfiltered Indian Pale Ale give this a shot as an introduction but there are better ones out there. Cheers!

I've enjoyed traditional Sculpin in the past - It is very good .... so I imagined the unfiltered version would be exceptional. It is! I always feel unfiltered brews instill extra flavor and overal body in a brew. The flavor of this was amazing. All other characteristics were exceptional also. I wish this was a regular offering.

From bottle at home. I'm not a huge Hoppy IPA fan. I make exceptions for the likes of Lawson's Sip of Sunshine, Grey Sail's Captains Daughter & the like.

Looks like I have to add another to that list of exceptional IPAs.

This has a very clean & crisp look. Lush head, lingering lacing, subtle aroma & just the right amount of dryness to satisfy. I don't say this lightly, but this is one of the best beers I've tried in a long time.

It looks summery, but it is full bodied.

All I can say is if this is a choice in front of you, take it. I'd even go as far as to say seek this out the next time your in an establishment that has a big selection.
