On tap at the Pour Taproom (Greenville, SC).
Pours with a cloudy amber body and a generous, relatively dense, foamy off-white head that has very good retention and lacing.
Aroma: hoppy with grapefruit, other citrus, and other tropical fruit notes dominating.
Flavor: hops dominate the relatively strong flavor with faint bready malts. Moderate+ bitterness for style. More pine than the aroma suggests.
Mouthfeel: near medium body with soft, medium-high carbonation.
Overall: A fine variant on this world-class American IPA.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a hazy golden with a fluffy eggshell white head that falls leaving great thick retention and sticky lacing. The aromas have lots of fresh bread and crackers. Some floral notes. Subtle hints of grapefruit. The aromas are pretty faint and mild for the most part. The flavors are crisp and clean. Nice hop bitterness but not a ton of hop flavor. Hints of citrus. Orange and grapefruit is there along with a nice amount of pine and fresh grass. It's slightly earthy. Nice sharp bitterness. Malts do their thing. Finishes clean and dry for the most part. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is very nice. It's medium-bodied with active carbonation. It's very fluffy, smooth and easy to drink.

This is a solid IPA, but I guess I was expecting more hop aromas and hop flavors due to this being a Sculpin variant. It's not bad at all, but I guess I was personally expecting something different. The craftsmanship is on point.

Slight haze nothing overly hazy

Aroma is a bouquet of tropical fruits. Reminds me of classsic sculpin

Taste is off of a draft at the bottom of the keg. A little thin and under carbonated. Pine, citrus, and a great amount of pineapple, mango, and generic tropical fruits

Quick review at Whole Foods. Overall, it gets a 85.5/100.

Pours bright orange in color. Hazy and cloudy but not overly thick. Two finger foamy head dissipates steadily leaving a thin layer of residual foam with some sticky lacing.

Smell has notes of citrus, pine and peach/apricot notes. Simple, but very nice.

Taste has strong fruity notes including citrus, orange, peach and apricot. Gives way to some pine and grass notes. Not as bitter as the regular sculpin - I think this one is very balanced without being so bitter.

Feel is light bodied, smooth and somewhat dry. Medium carbonation.

Overall this was a really nice IPA - well crafted beer from Ballast Point.

I've enjoyed traditional Sculpin in the past - It is very good .... so I imagined the unfiltered version would be exceptional. It is! I always feel unfiltered brews instill extra flavor and overal body in a brew. The flavor of this was amazing. All other characteristics were exceptional also. I wish this was a regular offering.

Look: Super hazy with a lot of floaties in there. Also had a decent sized off white head.
Smell: Smells like regular Sculpin. Basically a bunch of tropical fruit smells backed by a bunch of hops.
Taste: Less hop forward than regular Sculpin is for me. Fruit flavors are still there with less of a bitter aftertaste.
Feel: This is the biggest change IMO, with this beer feeling much heavier than the original and not as smooth.
Overall: I really like Sculpin when it is fresh and I liked this about the same or just slightly less. Next time I see both in the store and if they are the same price, I would just grab the one with the fresher bottles.
