22oz bomber poured into a standard pint

A slightly hazy orange body with a fluffy, thick yellow infused cap. Great head retention with thick gobs of lace sticking everywhere. Little streams of bubbles pushing north.

Loads of tropical fruit, especially mango. Initially, I only got bright, juicy orange and lemon peel, but as it got a little warmer, peach, and white grapefruit were easily detectable.

Tropical fruits all over the flavor profile too. Mangoes, oranges, peach and grapefruit. Equal parts bitter and sweet and just downright delicious. The malt base is sweet and light, reminiscent of sugar cookies. The hops are really front and center here, and the sweetness of the malt plays great with the tropical fruit.

The body is smooth and lush. The bitterness in the finish isn't overbearing, but it makes its presence known. Given that, the drinkability score goes up. This might be the best hoppy, clean, somewhat balanced, drinkable IPA out there. The hops really shine on this one.

What a crazy beer!!
Poured a light pale gold. Looks like its going to be a really weak drink. Body seemed thin to appearance. Very thin white creamy head. Smell was dank. Really strong pine that didnt seem to match its appearance. Smell now makes you think this beer is going to rip you a new one. Taste was citrus, with a little grapefruit. Didnt really get hops out of this. Body is thin in the mouth but full of flavor. Finish is little malty that leaves you wanting more. What a roller coaster this beer was!!! I will definatly be on the lookout to get more of this. This a must try for BA'ers

This is one wonderful beer.

The appearance is a clear golden-orangery color with a nice head and lots of lacing on the glass. The nose is full of tropical fruits, mangoes, citrus fruits and pineapple. The taste is very similar lots of tropical fruit notes with a delicate bitterness that blends into the tropical notes. The malt profile is not to sweet or overpowering, the hops are really showcasing this beer. The carbonation levels are spot on. The finish is dry. I could drink this beer all day long just about everyday, it really is one the better IPA's on the shelf.

I had a 6 pack of this (12 oz bottles)

appearance is amber hue in color, beautiful looking.

Smell was fruitful, piney, oranges, mangos, etc.

I really liked this beer, but it didn't quite live up to the hype for me. It was just as the nose revealed, very hoppy, and fruit like presence in the body with a dry hoppy finish. I'd recommend this but it HAS to be fresh. It's quite possible mine was not.

Mouthfeel, was perfect, easy drinking, the exact amount of carbonation I thought the beer needed.

Over all, I'm impressed, but not that impressed with the price tag. But, I highly recommend it.

Poured into a pint glass from a 12 oz bottle. Reviewed 5/1/14.

Color is gold with a thick white head. Retention is fair with nice lacing. Aroma is grapefruit and some tropical fruits - very strong. Flavor is a blast of grapefruit on the palate, moderated by some caramel malt, but really a hop-forward beer. Finish is lingering grapefruit rind - very nice. Body is light to medium with moderate to high carbonation.

Overall a really good example of West Coast IPA that is one I often use as a yardstick against which to judge other IPAa.

22 ounce bottle, 20 ounce nonic.

A - Very nice clear golden color with a slight coppery tinge. Off white head just shy of two fingers that barely shrinks.

S - Beautiful hop smell. Tropical fruits leading the way as far as I'm getting, with some pine undertones and a citrus touch.

T - A beautiful hoppy IPA, that's all I can say. Tea like flavors result from the balance of hop bitterness with the malt bill, along with the fruit tones noticed in the smell. The aftertaste is more pine hops and a smooth bitter finish.

M - Light-medium body and very smooth.

D - An excellent IPA. The layering of so many dimensions of hop flavor make this a very interesting IPA and make you want to sip more and more.

A - Poured into my SN tulip. Has a beautiful pale, but cloudy, orange color, with an off white 2 finger head. Appears to be very carbonated, as bubbles continuously appear from the bottom center of the glass and float to the surface.

S - One of the strongest hop aromas I have experienced. I could smell the hops as I poured it into my glass. The smell is a citrusy/piney smell.

T - Starts off slightly sweet, but quickly turns a big hop flavor. Strong aromas of pine and grapefruit. Also, very bitter, with a very dry finish. The hop flavor stays on the middle of your tongue for quite some time after each sip. Definitely one of the best IPA's that I have had.

M - Very nice mouthfeel. This actually feels a little creamy and has a good amount of carbonation.

D - This is a very drinkable beer, but one you really feel the urge to drink slowly and savor. The ABV also keeps you from going too quickly.

Look:
Poured slightly hazy deep gold/copper color. Less carbonation than expected (poured from a 12 oz can). Head recedes quickly, but the lacing continues on (1 finger head upon pour). This one was a bit darker than I expected.

Smell:
Very floral and hoppy!!! Rich, earthy, and buttery scents fill the air. Sweet caramel malt and toffee also wafts upward.

Taste:
Wow!! A decent hop bitterness punch right up front, but not overpowering the other flavors. Hops add citrus, pineapple, mango, grapefruit, etc., to the next round. Mixed in is a sweet caramel malt. There is a rich savory buttery flavor as well. Once they trail off, more citrus and malt flavors continue.

Feel:
There is a light/medium mouthfeel here. Medium bodied with lower carbonation.

Overall:
This is a great IPA (as expected). I seemed to like the flavor of this one better than the highly acclaimed Pliny the Elder. It is very rich and less on the IBU/Bitterness scale (which I do like better – but personal preference). I understand that Pliny is considered a “Double IPA” so it is more bitter, but I enjoyed the Sculpin more so.

Poured from a 22 oz. bomber into a footed glass. No freshness date on the bottle.

A: Pours relatively clear and bright amber in color. The head is soapy, white, and voluminous. Noticeable carbonation rises through the glass throughout the session. It looks slightly lighter and cleaner than I was expecting.

S: Huge hop aroma greets the nose immediately. Mostly floral with subtle notes of pine resin and bitter fruit. No real malt character to be found. The smell is truly explosive out of the glass and attacks the nose.

T: Again, hops are obviously the star in this brew. Quite bitter up front, with a cool herbal character that stands up to the hop bitterness. Not as much of a fruit character as, say, Two Hearted, this beer seems to be more about showcasing crisp, pungent hop flavor.

M: This beer covers the whole palate nicely with a solid medium body and great level of carbonation. The bitterness at the end fades into a minty cooling sensation, followed by a nice alcohol burn down the throat.

D: This beer seems to be made to fit any occasion. It's extremely crisp and refreshing, yet excitingly complex. This is right up there with the best IPAs I've tried.

Thanks to Weibull for sending a few bottles my way.

A: Clear golden color with two fingers of white head. Very nice clarity to this beer. Lacing from the top down.

S:Nice fresh hop nose. Tons of citrus right out the gate. Very much a west coast IPA.

T: NIce malt backbone with just a few citrus hop flavors. One of the more balanced IPAs that I have head while still being super hoppy.

M: Nice crisp and refreshing medium body.

D: Super drinkable and amazingly well balanced. I would have this on my short list of beers to buy if it were available in my area. Well done.
