I bought a bottle of the Fathom at the beer store just around the corner from the house. It poured a clear copper with white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent had bitterness. The taste was not evenly balanced and was not overly smooth to drink. There was bitterness and booz present throughout. The Mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it's ok and certainly worth a try. Just wasn't awesome for me.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a keg glass (long story). Golden amber color with one or two finger foam head. Very inviting. Get the hops on the nose with a hint of the malt character underneath. Taste is strong hops at first but then gives way to bready malts at the end. Interesting and wouldn't turn this one down in the future.

I picked up a bottle of Ballast Point's Fathom for $5.99 at The Lager Mill. I'm in the mood for a hoppy Lager tonight, so lets see how it goes. 2015 Vintage. Poured from a brown 22oz bottle into a imperial pint glass.

A- The label is night, it goes with the name and it's eye catching. It pouted a pretty clear amber color and it didn't really change color when held to the light with almost two fingers worth of creamy and bubbly slightly off white head that died down to a thin ring that stayed till the end and it left some patchy lacing behind. This is a good looking beer, I have no complaints.

S- The aroma starts off with a medium amount of sweetness with the hops being the first to show up and they impart a mixture of spicy, lightly soapy, floral and citrus rind aromas with the spicy hops seeming to stick out the most and it's followed by a clean lager yeast aroma with a little bit of a grainy, pale malt and sweet malt aroma showing up right at the end. This beer has a nice aroma, it seems to be pretty standard for the style.

T- The taste seems to be very similar to the aroma and it starts off with a medium amount of sweetness with the hops still being the first to show up and they impart the same aspects that they did in the aroma, this time no single hoppy aspect seems to stick out the most and it's followed by some of that clean Lager yeast. Up next comes some pale, grainy and sweet malts flavors. On the finish there's a lighter amount of bitterness with a hoppy aftertaste. This is a nice tasting beer, it's pretty standard for the style.

M- Fairly smooth, fairly crisp, clean, medium bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel is pretty nice and it works well with this beer.

Overall i thought this was a nice beer and a pretty solid and standard example of the style, it had pretty much all the aspects that I expected and it was true to style, but it didn't have anything that really set it apart as being a really good example of the style. This beer had nice drinkability, one glass is the perfect amount for me, but I should have no problem drinking the full bottle. What I like the most about this beer is the appearance, it's good and I had no complaints. What I like the least about this beer was the hop profile, I wish it was a little more fruity and brighter. I don't think I would buy this beer again, but I wouldn't turn one down. All in all I liked this beer, but I didn't love it and I think with some work on the hop profile this could be a pretty good beer. It's not favorite from Ballast Point and it's just a little above average for the style. Nice job guys this is a solid IPA, but it has potential to be even better.
