The best variant so far imho, waiting on mango even keel. I dont know if i would buy this again despite the fact my rating says i would (3.5 or higher), the reason why is that this is pretty gingery and rich, its a great pairing beer for food, specifically some wings, but ONLY if you really like ginger! I feel that the ginger mixed very well with the hop profile in this one, and dont feel as if a ginger sculpin would have been nearly as good, since big eye is more piney/earthy than citrusy/fruity. Great ipa, but again if you dont like ginger or arent looking for something off the beaten path, i wouldnt chance this one

On-tap at Ballast Point's Old Grove location. Poured into a tulip glass.

A- Pours a clear copper orange, produces a finger of creamy beige head, great retention, good lacing.

S- Ginger aroma is amazing, very bright, potent blend of freshly chopped ginger and citric hops. I really can't believe how much ginger aroma is packed into this beer.

T- Very hoppy, citric grapefruit and pine, the ginger is prominent here again, but works closely with the hops, lending some spicy and well... ginger flavors. Excellent call on using ginger as an ingredient, it complements the fruitiness and bitterness of the hops really nicely.

M- Medium-bodied, smooth, dry feel, a tiny bit of spice in the finish.

O- An awesome beer, finished an 8 oz pour easily, a damn good idea and well-executed.

Really good take on an adjunct ipa. Smells like citrus and ginger. Great clarity in the beer as expected. Taste is well balanced malt, citrus, pine, and ginger. Everything is very noticeable but not over powering. Clear winner here. Just have to be in the mood for ginger. I'll be buying more of this one.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 1/6/2016. Pours slightly hazy orange/amber color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, ginger, pepper, pine, light caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of bright citrus/pine hops and moderate ginger/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, ginger, pepper, pine, light caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon/orange rind, ginger, pepper, pine, light caramel/bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/piney hops and moderate ginger/bready malt flavors; with great malt/bitterness balance and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Good amount of dryness from bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, sticky/resinous, and lightly creamy/bready balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding spiced IPA! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/piney hops and moderate ginger/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. The ginger wasn’t overdone at all in this, and the flavor blended extremely well with the resin/spicy C hop flavors all around. A highly enjoyable offering.

Look: Pours a clear orange-amber with a thick, off-white frothy head. Great lacing and retention all the way through.

Aroma: Nice ginger up front mixed with citrus (lemon), pine, and grass.

Taste: Ginger root, bready caramel malts, and earthy hops. Slight citrus zest as well.

Feel: Strong ginger root aftertaste and mouthfeel, quite interesting. This lingers for a while while the hops and malt create a nice balance. It's a solid "west coast" IPA with a ginger twist, I liked it a lot more than I thought I would.

This one is hard to judge. Nice look to it with a slight ginger aroma. The taste was very unique. I actually quite liked this beer the ginger gives it a very interesting taste and feel to it. At 5.99 a bomber I will definitely be getting this again.

Sushi beer to a tee? Super natural tasting vein of ginger running throughout this one. Big Eye is a bit overlooked due to all the Sculpin love, but it's a good beer in its own right, and the ginger addition pairs nicely indeed.
