A dark cola color with a thin head. I’m struggling to get a smell of this beer. Something is there but don’t know what. It tastes good and has a thin mouthfeel. I get a hint of the barrel aging but it’s not strong like most. It’s easy enough to drink but doesn’t provide the excitement of most Barrel-Aged beers. On draft at Ron’s Corner Tavern in a tulip glass from Ballast Point.

4oz. Served on tap.
The look of this leads you to believe it’s going to taste great, very thick heavy head from the pour.
Smell is underwhelming.
Taste is so bland. There is little to zero taste of bourbon and no burn of bourbon.
Feel is just meh.
Overall I’m giving this a because I really like Ballast Point and feel like maybe this one is just a miss from a brewery that doesn’t miss much.

Very very very good cough syrup type beer. A joke between myself as i think all authentic Scot Ales have a syrup feel. This is one of the better ones to style.

On tap at The Beer Market in Rochester, NY.

It pours a rusted looking brown, with a surprisingly persistent head, and a good amount of lacing.

Smells like...not a whole lot, for a BA Scotch Ale. Some caramel, faint and wispy bourbon, toffee. It's all faint, like there's a curtain in front of the beer.

More and more I feel like Ballast Point is going down the tubes, slowly but surely. I hate being that guy...but c'mon. The carbonation overpowers this one, it's got s prickly feeling that leaves a tingling throughout the glass. There's like 1% barrel here, it feels like it was aged in the shadow of a bourbon barrel. There a little bit of nice caramelly malt and toffee, but it's not bold. This is disappointing.

This has a prickly mouthfeel, with a way too high level of carbonation.

A disappointment in basically every way.

Pour: On draft at the Church Key in D.C. Poured into a snifter glass. Appearance: Reddish with some haze present. Minimal white head. Aroma: Faint bourbon notes and malt. Taste: Smooth and creamy with bourbon notes and lots of malt. Aftertaste: Lingering bourbon with some subtle spice. Overall: Smooth operator from Ballast Point. Very good: 4 out of 5.
