Style: Witbier

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Previously known as Wahoo Wheat Ale

A fresh, unfiltered brew perfect for lazy summer days.
Our Wahoo White is brewed with unfiltered, un-malted wheat and oats that give it a distinctive cloudy complexity. True to the Belgian tradition, this Witbier boasts a refreshing, citrusy flavor thanks to the orange peel and coriander we add to the boil. This makes Wahoo an ideal beer for year-round beach weather.

A- Pale straw color, with a white head. When you pour it, has a lot of head, then after a little bit it disappears. Little to no lacing.

S- Fruity (orange) and spicy (coriander), also you can smell a little citrus tones in there like lemon and lime. Malty and yeasty as well. For some reason it has a little funky scent too.

T- very balanced, orange and yeast tasted. Towards the middle you can totally taste the spices. Does not have a long lasting tale. You taste it then it leaves the mouth immediately.

M- light bodied, little carbonation.

O- I really like this beer, its very easy to drink and so yummy! Would recommend it to anyone!

Bottle dated early April:
Poured a hazy golden with hints of white. The head didn't build too high and dissipated quite quickly. Thin edges of white head remained. This beer seems too dark, too clear, and not very heady for the style.

The nose seems better, coriander, a hint of banana, some orange - a bit of spice and citrus on a witbier base.

Taste is similar to nose, checking the boxes for the style. However, the feel is almost more like a lager: a tad watery, with decent (but prickly) carbonation. The beer does have a nice earthy end with a twinge of spice bite.

Quite disappointed in this beer. It's drinkable and not off in any way, it just doesn't seem like a typical witbier.

An average wit at best, hoped for more from BP. Didn't get much yeast character in here.

Ballast Point might be the best brewery in the country. I am not a huge fan of most regular White beers, but Wahoo has such a complex flavor and smell that it would be easy to mistake it for a much more expensive brew like Goose Island's Matilda. Seriously impressive.

Spicy carbonation when I open the bottle. Tastes like home brewed wheat which is a good thing. Nicer color and clarity than my home brew. Very refreshing but a bit pricy.

Poured a cloudy golden body with a thick, foamy white head that slowly receded. Overall impression of appearance is of a perfectly on-point witbier. Scents of coriander, spicy clove and white pepper-like phenols at light levels in the background, moderate amounts of bright orange peel, light sweet honey, a balanced malt character that is softly sweet with notes of grainy wheat and a nice floral quality. Overall impression of aroma is of a well balanced, nicely done witbier that is very true to style and quite appealing. Flavor begins lightly sweet, with a pleasant soft malt quality, balanced with notes of sweet, zesty orange, light vanilla, spicy coriander and phenolic flavors of clove and white pepper. Middle is lightly tart, with notes of tangy wheat and orange balancing with spicy coriander, clove and peppery flavors. Finish is lightly dry with notes of grainy and tangy wheat, spicy notes of coriander, clove and delicate white pepper, along with tangy orange zest and hints of vanilla. Aftertaste is grainy, bready wheat malt, clove, coriander and white pepper. Overall impression of flavor is of a very good witbier that has all the typical flavors of the style present and balanced nicely. A good example of the style. Mouthfeel is medium-light bodied with high, effervescent carbonation and a creamy feel that finishes dry. Overall impression of mouthfeel is of a perfect witbier. Overall this is a fantastic witbier, that unlike so many American examples excels at representing what the style should be in aroma, flavor and mouthfeel.
