A very nice dark color with a slight head and lacing, a very pleasant aroma and taste. Medium bodied with decent carbonation and a very pleasant character.

4oz. Served on tap.
Look is the typical brownish red expected from a red ale.
Smell is smoky, definitely a barrel aged smell.
Taste is very smooth with the slight burn of the familiar bourbon after taste.
Feel is fine, nothing exceptional.
Overall not bad. When I drink a bourbon barrel aged beer I want to know I’m having a bourbon barrel aged beer. This definitely has that feel.

a pretty intensely flavored beer here, basically a barleywine at this point, a nice fall complexion to it though, and a perfect beer for standing outside in the cold rain, if for some reason you find yourself doing that and this beer is miraculously available like it was for me this weekend. its murky and deep crimson color, just short of brown and with a ton of viscosity. it has a strong whiskey aroma, almost scotch ale smelling for a moment, a hint of peat here, wood, and a nice kilned malt warmness about it. subtle honey and vanilla notes, fusel alcohol heat, sweet caramelized grain sugars, wet oak, and a breadiness, almost european for a moment in the grain. the flavor is all of this, with the wood mellowing some of the sweetness and the booze heat, but both are still quite prominent here. i wish it were a little drier, this is hard to drink through much of, but its a tasty variant on the original, just a lot of beer in the glass if you know what i mean. it seems a little rougher than the original, somewhat less refined to me, but i like the flavors that the barrel adds, it just does less for the feel that i suspected it would. enjoyable anytime a big beer is needed though. did this get bottled?

Barleywine-esque in terms of its size, booziness, feel, and complexity. An awful lot going on here, which in many cases can easily come off as muddled, but here tows the line (barely) of cohesion and makes for a very interesting slow sipper.
