On tap at the Brewery - Linda Vista
8oz pour into a BP Tulip glass – 06/26/2015

A: The pour is a dark ruddy brown that consists of a near black core with some russet color taking effect towards the edges. A dense lather of oatmeal colored cream forms over top with some good longevity. Very creamy only leaving behind a few small curvy lines of lace behind.

S: The nose reveals up front dark roast malts, cocoa, toasted coconut and lightly charred grains with some brown sugar/molasses type sweetness. Quickly shifts into the add-in spice mixture which comes together like taco seasonings if you will. Picking up lots of Cumin influence here with a bit of that warming Cayenne pepper spice. There is definitely a lot going on and especially as the brew warms up but am still on the fence with it. Not really getting the lime here either.

T: Flavors are definitely heavy handed with the spices as others have noted. It’s a bit overwhelming at times and again getting the Cumin most dominantly which sets the pace for more of a Taco style mix rather than Curry per say. The base stout seems pleasant enough with a good dose of blackened grains there, molasses and umami notes, and a bit of chalky cocoa powder. There are some fruity elements to this but not exactly stand out with the lime or coconut. They seem to get lost in the sauce if you will. Has a good moderate amount of earthy hop bitterness hitting midway as it rolls into a spicy warm chili pepper finish. Cayenne lingers a bit in the aftertaste and offers up a smoky quality. Again quite a bit going on here albeit fairly well executed in the end.

M: The body is semi full and moderately thick with an upper moderate amount of prickly carbonation on the tongue. There is a bit of chalkiness to the feel and some bitterness towards the finish. Warm and lingering with all the spices.

D: This brew is a fun experiment to try out but can be somewhat polarizing with the heavy spice additions. I really don’t get the love for this one. Just not something I could drink much of in one sitting.

A - nice dark brown opaque beer with a mocha head that dissipates pretty quickly but leaves okay lacing
S - curry, cumin, black pepper, creamy coconut, little bit of roasted malt in there, little smokiness
T - curry, black pepper, umami, definitely some creamy coconut in there, spicy
M - for a 7% stout this has a heavy, complex mouthfeel, alcohol is completely covered, aftertaste is spicy curry
O - This beer is a million times better than drinking another boring 7% stout/porter, it's very complex, and for me puts itself in a realm of beers that are 10-12% abv. I don't know if i'd necessarily buy it again, but it's good.

When I saw this beer on my local shelf I was immediately excited. I Love curry! I put it on my pbjs! This beer packs that punch, yes. But what it doesn't have is that balance of flavors.

Look: dark dark brown. Mahogany with light but barely. Enticing.

Smell: garam Masada through and through. Cumin and smoked Paprika m in particular. The subtly sweet creamy aroma of coconut provided excellent balance to the spice.

Taste: this is where I feel the beer is missing a few vital things. Most if not all of that coconut subtle flavor is nonexistent. There is no roast chocolate, which I think would eccentuate the spices. A few minutes into the glass there is zero head and zero lacing. The last flavor sticking around is that of masalapowder. Truthfully, despite it's fault I very much enjoyed this beer. With a bowl full of coconut rice I wouldn't be able to walk away from it.

I came into this with an open mind, intrigued by the concept. I love curry, whether cooking simple carrots or sharing a large round table full of vibrant dishes with others.

However, if this is any indication, curry does not belong in beer. It clashes with Indian food, and kills anything else you eat with it. It's just downright offputting in a beer. Describing the actual aspects of it is pointless, as the label says it all.

Moderately deep brown, tan head.

Smell is wild - absolutely wild. Curried sweet potatoes. What? Yeah. This is just from outer space. But, good outer space.

Flavor is bitter, malty, cayenne spice. Not as crazy as the smell. Not bad. Would go with Indian food, barbecue, and probably lots of other foods, especially meat-based. This savory.

Moderate mouthfeel. Wouldn't mind a bit more richness. Not overcarbonated.

This is weird stuff. Singular. But I think there's a place for it. Bonus points for making something so weird that remains, weirdly, drinkable.

Getting started just before sunset with this exceedingly unique brew, Ballast Point Indra Kunindra. The style is a foreign export stout, with an emphasis on the 'foreign' flavors; an explosion of Indian spices, most prominently cumin and curry, with hints of coconut and roasted malt on the back end. Finishes with a decent amount of heat from the hot red pepper but it isn't assaulting the palate like some chile beers do. Overall a worthwhile experiment and a super unique experience but I would recommend it only for fans of spicy Indian cuisine. Paired beautifully with spicy-sweet molasses cookies.

I had to review this beer since I'm guessing it is a love it or hate it kind of beer.

Pours an opaque black with a finger of tan head.

Smell is straight up curry. I get a lot of cumin from the smell. I love cumin so I love the smell of this beer. I'm thinking a lot of folks won't like the scent for a beer.

Taste is straight up curry with a heavy presence of cumin. This is a very unique beer but I'm not sure everyone will like it. While I do enjoy it I think I can only take a small amount of this beer. It has a little pepper heat on the finish. If you hate this beer I can see it being a great marinade for meat.

Mouth feel is nice and smooth.

Overall, this beer is not for everyone and even for people who like it, I'm not sure how much you can drink. I'd think eight or ten ounces may be the limit. After having half a glass the heat does start to build. Nothing painful but it does add up.

Hard beer to drink because of how much is going on; not sure if I'd call this a stout, but a very elaborate pale ale. Spices disguise any semblance of lime and coconut, and this is a clear sipper if nothing else.

Didn't know what to expect from this. Can't even begin to explain the smell and taste of this beer but I loved it. This is so unique. My only complaint is how hot this was at first but as I got near the end my palate adjusted to the heat and really enjoyed this. Such a strange but wonderful brew. Would drink again. This is very underrated in my opinion.

Pours black in color without much head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, curry, and faint lime. The flavor brings out the same as the aroma, with the addition of cayenne, which gives it a light warmth but nothing very notable.

All in all, the label states: Curry, Cumin, Cayenne, Coconut & Lime. This was a nice beer, but I would be racing out to buy it again if only it had about 200% more of these flavors present.

Such an interesting beer. The lime aroma that slices through the roasty stout aroma is a bit shocking, but sets the stage for an odd, but very well-crafted beer. Perfect amount of spice, sweetness, acidity, and creaminess.

Had this beer recommended to me by my son.
Poured this into a glass and was amazed by the scents rolling out of the glass. Cumin and curry are right up front and strong. The cayenne pepper hits with a nice secondary flavor and leaves some lingering heat. Coconut, lime and there has to be other flavors too, all combine to complete to the overall appeal.
To repeat a few a few of the other reviews posted on this beer the flavors work together. It is not that often you can refer to a beer experiences as exciting. Still working on the rating scale but this one deserves to be at or near the top of any list.

L: Pours dark chestnut with light ruby highlights. Produces a ½” foam collar that drops to a thick film fairly quick.

S: Big curry, coconut and spice gives it the smell of a curry house and shove caramel and dark malt aromas to the background.

T: Rich malt, coconut, curry, cayenne heat, caramel malt sweetness. The cayenne heat is medium hot but grows a little bit as you drink. The curry, coconut, lime and spice flavors are just in front of the malt. Traces of chocolate malt. Hop bitterness and hop flavors are barely noticeable if there at all.

F: Medium full body and medium carbonation with a pleasant warming from the alcohol and the cayenne.

O: This starts as a very interesting beer as you try to sort out all the flavors but it gets cloying pretty quick. It is hard to drink more than a small glass at a time. I give it points for creativity.

This has to be one of the most unique stouts I have ever had, and the flavors oddly work well the stout flavor profile. I have tried other "curry" beers, and they were just disgusting, but this stout actually tastes good, in an interesting way. But if you're not a fan of curry or Indian food, then this beer is definitely not for you.

The curry and cumin flavors are quite prominent, but meld well with nuttiness of the stout. I also get quite a bit of heat from the cayenne. The coconut flavor is subtle.

Strange beer. Ordered at Peppercorns on a whim. As a stout it had a pretty lightweight texture and mouthfeel. But speaking of mouth, this beer has some heat. Peppers, Cumin, Curried heat mixed up with Coconut,Mango sweetness, Not a great beer, not a bad beer.....tastes like it said..an Indian meal, but hard to imagine without trying

A: Dark brown body, nut-brown dense head that fades to a thin ring, and, to my amazement, what looks like pieces of orange gelatin. I quite like it, but present it to me when I'm in a worse mood and I might say it's disgusting. They lucked out. A+

S: Whoa! First thing is sweet mango/coconut, closely followed by an Indian man's sweat, followed by cumin and other exotic spices.

T: WHOA. The mango is joined by substantial (for a beer) spice, like cayenne or red pepper. Cumin follows, curry is present, the coconut rides in with the meek roasted malt on the finish, still under the shadow of the peppers which provide a pleasant burn on the finish.

F: Medium body, prickly carbonation, slick.

O: This is a very wild ride. Lures the drinker in with sweet fruit, then assaults them with cumin and curry. I find it delicious, if extravagant. It seems silly to get this picky with such an over the top beer, but I honestly found the cumin to be overdone. Otherwise, brilliant. Drastically warped from its base style, but for the better. Adventurous souls will be greatly rewarded!

Poured from 22-ounce bomber into TeKu. Dark coffee color with deep brown highlights, substantial fluffy light tan head that hangs around for a couple of minutes. The label description perfectly describes the aroma and taste. Coconut and curry predominate on the nose as well as the palate, with a hint of kaffir lime and a little heat from the cayenne pepper and some hop bitterness on the finish. Although there is nothing subtle about the spiciness, which tends to overshadow the character of the beer itself, it delivers on its promise. If you like Indian and Thai cuisine, give this one a try.

Purchased 3/30/2015 enjoyed 10/31/2015 in a Hopslam tulip/snifter.

Look - Black thick body. Cold first pour yielded a finger of fine bubbled head. Warm pour not as much head. Settles to a ring. Blotchy lacing.

Smell - Chocolate. Pepper. Spice. Coffee.

Taste - Cummin. Curry. Pepper. Chocolate. Coffee. Coconut. Complex but not my taste.

Feel - Burns with spice, not alcohol. Thick.

Overall - Different. I like spice but not Indian spice. Won't buy again. I even gave it 7 months to mellow.

A: This poured an opaque black with thick tan head.
S: It smelled like sticky molasses and sweet coffee and cream, with some Indian spices and peppers and chocolate.
T: It tasted like mocha and cream, with some peppers and Indian spices and sweet molasses. It had a clean sweet and spicy aftertaste.
M: It was somewhat thick with moderate carbonation. Decent body.
D: This was a really unique brew, something like I would expect from DFH. The scent and taste were really complex and well balanced, although not the most delicious. The body was ok, and the finish was smooth enough, so it was pretty easy to drink. Probably not for aging. Fun to try once.

Thick and sweet and full of a wild range of flavorful tastes. Deep dark chocolate malt juniper with cinnamon and vanilla coconut. All blended into a pleasant pepper heat. This could be a neat Christmas brew. I really like this although it's no session brew. One at a time should do. There was little to no head and carbonation was equally weak but there was a nice satiny feel.

The pour is dark brown with a long lasting foamy tan head.

This has some spice! Coconut and roasted malts are there briefly but the Curry, Cumin, and Cayenne express themselves more in the aroma.

The body is in the medium range.

The heated spicy characters of the cumin, curry, and cayenne paper are explosive on the palate. I like spicy foods but the amount of heat on this stout made it a sipper. Actually, I bet it would be a great beer to cook with.

Pours black with a thin head. Some lacing sticks.

The smell is of curry and cumin - hint of lime. Wouldn't really know that coconut was there if it weren't in the description.

The taste is heavy on the spices. There is some chocolate that peeks through in the middle to give it some balance and smoothness. Finishes overly spiced.

Alcohol not hidden so well, here. It certainly has a spicy, boozy bite.

An "interesting" brew. If you really like spices such as curry, cumin and cayenne, try it. For me, it was too overpowering. One and done.

Pours near black with a thin layer of head and some retention. Nose is loaded with burnt toast, chocolate, cumin and some earthy greens. I can actually get hints of everything, mild curry and cumin spice, hints of coconut sweetness and lime, with the cayenne heat on the finish. A solid malt backbone with burnt toast, cocoa and earthy hops on the finish. Solid brew and definitely worthy to any fan of East Indian flavour.

Nice jet black appearance with a minimal head. Smells like curry powder and coconut milk.

Nice curry flavors enveloped by a medium-to-full bodied stout. Coconut comes out toward mid palate. After the upfront curry and coconut, a slight burn emerges, enhancing the curry flavor and providing nice balance. There is a slight twang in the finish which could come from the lime. It's not too heavy which actually works in favor of all of the flavors going on. If this was too thick and rich, the spices would overwhelm.

Would make an interesting dessert beer with vanilla ice cream. Or even just a piece of good chocolate cake.
