Of all the IPA's I've tried, as of right now this one is by far my favorite. It has a smooth feel too it, very good flavor and stands out among the other IPA's I've tried. It's darker in color compared to most other IPA's, and is much more flavorful then the others I've tried. Definitely a good buy if you're looking for a good flavorful IPA.

Coppery apricot amber, offwhite head, wreaths of lacing. . Aroma of eucalyptus and guavas in syrup. Taste of menthol, pine resin and a touch of tropical fruit. Mouthfeel is slightly spritzy. Overall a fine West Coast IPA

Poured from a 12oz. can at 45 degrees F. into a tulip style ipa glass.
A - golden blossom honey with a slight haze . 1 finger of clingy soapy foam that sticks around. alcohol legs are present around the glass.

S - Tropical fruits are strong, mango, pineapple & mandarin oranges. sweet, sweet malty / honey notes.

T - bitter tropical smash to the pallet. mid mouth sweetness from the malts almost like a frosted donut with tropical fruit salad on top. this is absolutely delicious.

M- full bodied. coats the mouth in flavor and leaves a delicious resiny aftertaste.

O - This Beer is fucking awesome. I can drink this IPA everyday. And IMHO is just slighty better than sculpin. I would buy this and many other of the fantastic offerings by Ballast Point Brewing whenever possible. happy to have a great ipa like this for my 300th beer.

Cheers!

Look: A swirling flurry of bubbles create a substantial, fluffy off-white head which rests atop a clear body of light copper.

Smell: The bouquet is a tad light for the style, but has some interesting qualities. On top of the expected C-hops, a pinch of nutmeg makes this smell a bit like a pumpkin ale.

Taste: Strong hop bitterness highlighting grapefruit and resin. Grainy toasted malt plays a supporting role that gets a quick moment in the spotlight in the finish. As the beer warms, a drip of caramel can be detected towards the beginning of each sip.

Mouthfeel. Dry finish with lasting bitterness tap dancing on the tongue and roof of mouth. Medium carbonation is just the right amount--more, and this IPA would be on pins and needles. Medium-light body keeps things crisp and refreshing, disguising the 7% ABV.

Overall: Refreshing and balanced, this is a strong IPA for true hop heads, but a bit sharp for those not yet sure of all IPAs. It's classic and traditional, but too well-made to be boring. A stronger aroma would render it excellent.

Slightly hazy, bright pumpkin orange-amber. The larger than average head is dark cream in color, finely pitting and firmsticky. I'm already seeing loads of fine lace in intricate patterns, ultimately in thin rings. Beautiful hoppy nose. Man I love Centennial! The citrus fruitiness seems to be more orange and lemon than grapefruit. I've smelled a lot of IPAs lately and this aroma is up there with the best.

This may be the most 'orangey' tasting IPA that I've ever had (actually, it tastes more like tangerine juice than orange juice). There's also the unmistakable flavor of grapefruit pith and pine sap that I love so much. The hopping is pretty well done, perhaps a little harsher than I'd like, but not bad. Pale malt is appreciated, but is playing second fiddle for sure. The finish is long, hoppy and bitter and the mouthfeel is full for the style.

Big Eye is a pretty darn good IPA. It doesn't get into my upper tier, but it's still heartily recommended. Especially if you're of the hophead persuasion.

Poured into a standard pint glass a deep burnt orange color with tight formed but rather quick to fade one finger white head.Good complexity in the nose, citric hop aromas along with some alcohol dipped apricot, mixed with some hard water and caramel/biscuit.Pretty well balanced with the healthy hop dose winning the day,big citrus and resin mixed with a big hefty sweetish caramle base. Its good but not out of the main stream American IPA realm, thats not a bad thing by any means, just sayin.

Appearance – Beautiful and cloudy orange in color with a modest but stubborn head.

Smell – Wonderful mix of floral, pine, and citrus hops. There’s also a lovely toasted malt base to this one.

Taste – This ale is so complex it is simple. The numerous hops, which I can’t identify, work in perfect harmony. The malt base is there but in the background. The flavor is very subtle yet strong. This is a nice IPA.

Mouthfeel – About medium in the body and extremely refreshing. This one is extra smooth yet crisp and clean.

Drinkabilty – This was one of the most drinkable IPAs that I have had to date. This would be a great one to give to a friend as an introduction to the style.

Comments – Another wonderful offering from Ballast Point. Mickeymac was kind enough to send me this one. Sadly, this was the last of the awesome care package that he sent. Ironically, I think this also puts me over 500 karma points and gives me another dash of ale. How fitting.

Dark for an IPA and almost orange in color. Big foamy head and lots of bubbles rising to the top upon pouring. The aroma is slightly citrusy and not particularly big. This leads to a surprise because this is a powerful IPA that fills the mouth big time. I like hoppiness but would prefer a little more complexity over the fairly one-dimensional flavor of this stuff. If you don't like big Left Coast IPA's this isn't for you. Overall I liked it but will probably pick something else off the shelf next time I go for an IPA.

The appealing coopery color poured with a thin creamy head at first with nice lacing. The head diminished. The aroma hit me with a sweet estery (more sweet than spicey) aroma, slightly bready. Overall appealing nose. The taste was piney..earthy bitter on the back of the tongue that seemed to sustain itself between swigs. Light-medium body with light and crisp carbonation.

This pours a medium copper color with a three finger slightly brown foamy head. Little bubbles are left on top of the beer scattered around. Average head retention with great lacing left behind.

Smells of apricot, honey, lemons, grapes, caramel, biscuit, and bubblegum, it sure smells delicious.

Taste is full of citrus upfront with a nice malt backbone to balance it out, nice hop bitterness shows up at the end. Very balance beer IMO. Wonderful taste.

Medium bodied with just enough carbonation.

This is one great beer. I can drink this beer all throughout the summer. Great find and recommended. Reminds me kind of Alpha King from Three Floyds.

A - Amber color with a moderate head and carbonation. The head sticks around for a bit and also coats the side with it sticky goodness. Quite a bit of particulate matter even with an easy pour.

S - Lot of citrus and early hops, with a bit of light caramel sweetness.

T - Citrus up front with some pine notes in middle and to finish. More malty then I was expecting with a little bread note to go with the caramel and base malt.

M - Moderate body, the alcohol and carbonation with a little tingle and warmth to let it finish clean.

D - Very balanced IPA, not to heavy handed, good bit of bitterness but lots of aroma also. Nice body really makes this is great IPA to enjoy a few of.

Another winner from a San Diego brewery. This one poured a sunset orange color with a dense white head that left some nice lace. The smell was big on citrusy hops with a slight scent of malt way in the background. As for the taste, this has to be one of the more balanced IPA's I've ever had and would be a good session IPA for sure. The flavor is hoppy for sure, but it is balanced out very nicely by a thick malt backbone and a nice hearty mouthfeel. A great beer that I will revisit soon.
