Amber color, slightly hop cloudy. Nice white head with good retention.

Big pine hop aroma, also a bit of caramel malt and nuttiness.

Big malt and pine hop flavor again, nice hop bitterness but not overpowering. Nice lingering bitterness in the finish.

Med body and carbonation. Some warming, but gentle.

More old school and piney/earthy than Sculpin. Very well made and clean.

8/15...pours bright copper, amber hued, foamy white top. Nutty, oily hop filled nose. Heavy citrus filled bitter that envelops the malt. Creats a buzz in the mouthfeel. Black pepper and pine. It;s electric.

Pours a darkish amber, thin head, decent retention. Ring like lace is ever present.
Sweet aroma overall; malt, and a combination of tropical and citrus fruit.
At first palate is dry and hops forward, particularly pine and resin. Then a caramel malt backbone becomes evident mid palate, and sweetness becomes present. In addition, I become aware of the zesty citrus quality. The interplay between malt and hops begins alternating in feel, providing an interesting balance. The mouthfeel is medium, at times on the high side due to the maltiness, yet, it feels really light and drinkable at times.
Overall, a really tasty brew that is complex in its sweet and bitter counterpoint. Another good one from Ballast Point.

West coast IPA. Between a pale ale and an IPA actually. The bitterness is still great and the pine and citrus are there all along. The smell reminds me a lot of sculpin but a notch at a lower level. Still great stuff

A poor man’s Sculpin. Good flavor, hops and citrus are well balanced, but pine is a bit too intense for my liking. Medium carbonation. The Pine really sticks around and lingers somewhere between bitter and sour."

From notes taken 06/21/16:

Enticing, mostly clear brandy-amber with tannish foamy head of moderate retention. Resin, spice, apricot, alcohol, perfume aromas. Similar on the palate, though favoring apricot and spice, and more overtly bitter, with alcohol flavor balanced out. Delicious! Full-bodied but relatively thin, carbonation sloshy then creamy. Quite hot, mouth-coating.

Nice amer color with an inch of head. Nose pineapple, grapefruit, floral with hints of malt and citrus. Taste grapefruit, melon, orange and resin. Hoppiness rounds it out on the back end. Nice clean finish. Once again Ballast Point never disappoints with their IPAs. Will happily drink again.

Excited this was a pick six to drink while watching game six. Bottle to snifter. 1 finger head with medium pour. Not much retention. Dark golden honey color. Lacing is moderate. Nose is dry hoppy notes with a bit of a floral bouquet. Taste is not as citrusy but ok. Bits of pineapple, mango maybe but that earthy dryness off the nose still resounds on tongue. Adds to a bitter resinous mouthfeel. Overall a standup IPA, seems a mild 7%er.

From a bottle into a pint glass.

Almost no head on this gold/Amber colored IPA.

Smell is typical citrus IPA with hops and some light grapefruit undertones.

Taste surprisingly more floral with the citrus coming on the back of the toungue. Plenty of hops up front give good balance.

Feel is crisp and refreshing. Not too heavy with plenty of flavor.

Darker than average ipa, this one has a dark amber leaning almost auburn/light brown around the way. Creates an off white 2/3" head, uniform lace on the glass. Aroma was dry hop seemingly in the Amarillo vein.

Taste pairs both big crystal malt usage and big hops and bitterness. Normal grapefruit and pine stuff. Gotta drink these fresh or else the malt will overcome the hops.

Ambar claro con transparencia, buena espuma y adherencia. Lúpulo pináceo moderado alto, malta maltoso caramelo moderado, notas herbáceas, cárnicas, prosciutto, mantequilla suave, jamón serrano. En boca lúpulo de amargor moderado alto, malta maltoso caramelo moderado, notas cárnicas ahumadas, jamón serrano, prosciutto, lúpulo pináceo moderado y ligeras notas a ceniza. Final cárnico-lupulado pináceo prolongado sin astringencia, buena carbonatación y cuerpo medio. Excelente cerveza!

A pale ale that doesn't get in its own way.

Dark amber with an off-white head. Nice balanced but hop-forward nose, with a taste to match. Resinous and somewhat aromatic hops are dominant. The balance in ways makes this a quintessential pale ale. Some waxing and waning of flavors, smoothly. Slick oily mouthfeel, but never overwhelming, just right for the style.

Bottle date 16123 (Julian). Drank 3 June 16.

I felt it was necessary to drink this with some tuna fish tacos: A very good balanced style of the American IPA. Not heavy on the malt, but it is there. Good fruity hops come through with hardly any bitterness. A super clear beer with a head that lasts throughout the session. A supremely drinkable 7% beer that you should definitely try if you are given the chance.

Poured 12 oz bottle into standard pint glass. Amber in color, nice foamy head that receded into a thin film. The aroma is citrus and sweet, orange blossom and malt, with a hint of lemon. Nice flavor, orange, grapefruit and tropical fruit, blended with the caramel malt. A crisp, bright finish. Very satisfying. An excellent IPA, definitely worth drinking.

Appearance:Pours a clean amber, with a frothy head of bone white suds. Average head of loopy lace.

Aroma: Citrus and tropical hops here, quite appealing.

Taste: Sharp and citrusy, with grapefruit seeming most prominent. Malts here provide a nice balanced counterpoint to the juicy hops. A sunny, bright, and delicious IPA.

Clear gold. Ample head of foam.

Piney nose with some cracker like nose. Hints of lemon.

Taste matches the smell. Delightful and very approachable IPA.

I picked up a bottle of Ballast Point's Big Eye IPA for $1.89 at The Lager Mill. I've been wanting to try this beer for a while, so lets see how it goes. 2015 Vintage. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a imperial pint glass.

A- The label looks good, it goes great with the name and it's eye catching. It poured a fairly clear amber color which took on more of an amber color when held to the light with a little over half a fingers worth of bubbly off white head that died down to a thin ring that stayed til the end and it left a little bit of spotty lacing behind. This is a pretty nice looking beer, I have no complaints.

S- The aroma starts off with a higher amount of sweetness with some fruity hops being the first to show up and they impart a nice citrus and juicy aroma with a little bit of floral hops showing up in the background. Up next comes the malts which impart some pale malts and sweet malt aromas with the sweet malts sticking out the most. This beer has a pretty nice aroma, but it's a little too sweet.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma, but not as sweet and it starts off with a slightly higher amount of sweetness with the hops being the first to show up and this time they impart more of a floral aspect with citrus rinds showing up in the back ground. Up next comes some doughy yeast followed by the malts which impart some sweet malt aromas with some pale malts showing up towards the end along with a slightly higher amount of medium bitterness with a floral and citrus rind hop aftertaste. This is a pretty nice tasting beer, but I wish the hop profile was as fruity as it was in the aroma.

M- Smooth, a little crisp, a little clean, medium bodied with medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is nice and it works well with this beer.

Overall I thought this was a pretty nice beer and I thought it was an above average example of the style, it was true to style, but it was still just a little rough around the edges. This beer had nice drinkability, I think a couple would be my limit, it might start to wear on me after that. What I like the most about this beer, that it's just nice and true to style IPA. What I like the least about this beer is that the fruity hops didn't carry over from the aroma to the taste. I might buy this beer again when in the mood for an IPA and I wouldn't turn it down. I would recommend it as a solid IPA. All in all I was happy with this beer. Good job guys, this is a tasty IPA.

Had this poured into a pint glass. Color was an orangish copper with limited off-white head. The flavor had a decent amount of pine on the front and an very clean finish...just not as strong of flavor or aroma as I'd like. Mouth feel was crisp, but nothing special. Not bad.

Of all the IPA's I've tried, as of right now this one is by far my favorite. It has a smooth feel too it, very good flavor and stands out among the other IPA's I've tried. It's darker in color compared to most other IPA's, and is much more flavorful then the others I've tried. Definitely a good buy if you're looking for a good flavorful IPA.

This is a very good beer. Smooth for an IPA and a great flavor. The only problem I have with this beer is that it doesn't have much chance of me drinking it if there are Sculpin or grunion flavors around. I would still grab it ahead of about 90+% ahead of other IPA's

Poured into a Ballast Point shaker pint glass.

Look: Clear copper colored body sits under a thick froth of light cream colored head, great head retention with sheets of wicked lacing.

Aroma: Cedar, spicy hops, faint white pepper, hints of tropical fruit sweetness.

Taste: Much like the aroma, this is a spicy, woody affair with a bitter grapefruit finish.

Mouthfeel: A little on the heavy side, sticky.

Overall: Not exactly a refreshing one, this. Very woody and spicy.

A - Clear orange body, fluffy off-white head, lots of lacing.

S - The front is pine and pith, with a hint of citrus flesh on the back.

T - Follows the nose, with distinct threads of grapefruit and orange flesh, a hit of pith, and oils, then a middle of honeyed malts, thin and mild, closing with a strong bitter turn, punchy and suggesting aspirin.

M - Mild carbonation, light body, and a definite but mild drying in the close.

O - A rock solid IPA, prickly but full of flavor and vigor.

Copper colored with excellent clarity and vibrant carbonation bubbles from within. There's a half inch of beige head resting on top. Heavy lacing. Aroma is of lightly piney hops and light malt. The taste is very in line with the aroma. Light amounts of piney hops and light biscuit malt is very much in balance. The mouth is lightly sticky and very dry.

Amber-orange body, clear except for some small debris floating around, slightly tan dense malleable head. Nose is standard IPA; citrus fruit, good balancing malt. Flavor is good but boring; balanced bitter hops like orange and grapefruit, sourdough malt. Neither overly bitter nor malty. Body is great, on the fuller side, crisp and quenching.
The balance and feel are the best features; actual flavor/nose is good but doesn't stand out in any way.
