This Peppermint Victory at Sea is a festive take on our popular Imperial Porter. We took our trademark robust porter brewed with Caffe Calabria coffee and vanilla and added a dose of refreshing peppermint. The trio of flavors play perfectly on your palate – the brew’s sweet roastiness balances nicely with a cool, minty finish. You might even call it a breath of fresh beer.

Black with a tall pillow of tan head. Scent of fresh coffee, peppermint bark, anise and chocolate. Similar to a candy store around the holiday season. The peppermint and coffee become a bit muddled in the flavor. I can sense them on my palate through the lovely aroma, but the beer is a mess of bland sugar. Well this one isn't that great, but there are another thirty flavored Victory at Sea variants: hopefully the next one they choose to bottle will be better.

November 12th, 2016 - The Victory at Sea series has been a series of winning brews, but I'm slightly more skeptical around this peppermint flavor. It doesn't usually land well in brews, but if anyone can pull this off, it's Ballast Point. It looks much like the other porters, with an inky black color, a thin tan head and a glass filled with an enormous aroma. As feared - and anticipated - there's a big hit of peppermint, but it's oiled and smoothed by a softer coconut smell. The flavor is similarly pungent with mint, but tamed a bit by the unctuous coconut taste. This is one of the better, if not the best, implementations of peppermint in a brew.

Poured from crowler straight from brewery. One of my favorite beverages, pours a deep dark brown with a 2 finger dark tan head. The expected peppermint, coffee, cocoa, and roasted malt are evident on the nose and tongue, but oh man that taste is exceptional. Dessert-like for sure, but not a cloying, over-the-top peppermint OR chocolate taste. Super well balanced with a neat little bite at the end. It's definitely not a liquid Andes Mint but there's no mistaking the flavors. 10% AC goes down well but can come back to grab you if you're not careful. Well done.

From notes - Jan 13 2016

Looks the same part here really and the nose is still loaded with rich quality coffee and dark chocolate roast. Mint is light and refreshing. More coffee and rich dark roast with chocoalte, then the flavor has a real nice minty finish to it. Overall was hoping for more of peppermint mocha experience here buts the mint is a bit more restrained. Vanilla loses in the batlte witht the mint, as well its barely detetcable. Some underlying caramel malt sweetness
A bit of a step down from the OG V@S for me. Still a nice brew and fun to pick up.

From the bottle of indeterminate age, it pours a dark brown with a large light tan head that soon diminishes to a modest light brown head. In the nose, peppermint dominates initially, with malt later. In the mouth, it is an explosion of peppermint. Wow, perhaps tomorrow's taste will not be so cloying.

Had on tap. Less sweet and cloying than regular Victory At Sea...so that's good. Also not too much mint, so that's also good. But if I didn't know this was a mint beer I might not realize there was mint in it, which is not really great even though I'm not a huge mint fan. Overall it's a solid beer but different from what I expected.

Draught 8oz snifter at the Brass Tap here in Baltimore. Definitely prefer the base porter, but NOT bad.

Poured bomber bottle into snifter glass. 10% abv

Appearance- Pours a deep dark brown, close to black. Medium light brown chocolate head quick to dissipate. No light is passing through this glass.

Smell- Chopped up cocoa, peppermint, hints of coffee.

Taste- Mild grains quickly transition into a chocolate blast. Like a bite out of a chocolate cake. Then, much similar to a breath mint, the minty freshness melds with the chocolate flavor. Coffee flavors come in of the back end, giving this beer a bitter finish. The peppermint persists but not overwhelming. Finishes more vanilla than chocolate, so this beer really does take a big transition in the flavor profile.

Mouthfeel- Medium heavy in body, medium carbonation.

Overall- Interesting how the beer starts off so chocolate forward but finishes with a vanilla flavor. Peppermint in the middle. Reminded me a lot of a peppermint patty....well, the beer version of that.
