Bermuda is blessed with great weather and scenery, but cursed with a largely mediocre beer selection. Its an American and European craft beer desert. There is the fantastic Guinness Foreign Extra Stout, and Sam Adams in abundance, but otherwise, its all fizzy swill in bottles. There is one exception, and its a must visit for beer lovers visiting the rock.

Miles Market is a high end food store, akin to Whole Foods with a more European flare. They have a large wine selection (in its own walk in cellar) and a modest but high quality beer selection. Here's an (incomplete) list of the beers I saw on my first visit: Saison Dupont, Theakstons Old Peculier, Ommegang Hennepin, Unibroue Fin du Monde, McEwan's Scotch Ale, Fuller's Vintage ale 2007, Augustiner Helles, Dogfish Head 60, Victory Prima Pils and several Young's, Anchor, Sierra Nevada and Chimay beers. I saw a Green Flash IPA shelf tag, but they had just sold out of it.

While not anything comparable to the big beer stores in America, it can go head to head with the LCBO any day. The quality of everything I purchased was great. The Prima Pils was exceptionally fresh. I didnt get to talk to anyone from the beer department, but someone is definitely doing their homework. Considering how expensive anything imported onto the island is, they are quite reasonable. The service was very pleasant in the whole store.

I recommend this place.

High end shop by the Hamilton Ferry. Easily the best beer store on the island, Miles has a good mix of US craft plus some decent imports. Not great by US standards, but you will find something worth picking up.

We happened to be staying near the Miles Market in Hamilton recently, so we stopped in for some food. Imagine my surprise at the breadth of this place's beer selection. As has been noted here on BA, Bermuda, for all its English heritage, is woefully deficient in the beer department. Stella, Carlsberg, Heineken, Guinness and Sam Adams make up the vast bulk of what's available at most places, even upscale restaurants and pups.

Not at Miles Market. The selection seems to vary, but here's what I can recall seeing: Fullers Vintage, Westmalle, Chimay, Lindemanns, Paulaner, Saison Dupont, plus price tags for Dogfish Head and Anchor. There was plenty more that I don't remember. In certain towns in America this would qualify as a mindblowing selection.

Like the other reviewer noted, the prices were not all that unreasonable, especially by Bermuda standards. I think a bottle of Westmalle was less than $6. Feeling in the tropical mood, I picked up a sixer of Red Stripe for less than $9 I think.

Miles Market is tucked off a side street off Pitts Bay Road, around the corner from Front Street and not far from PW's Marina. It's definitely worth checking out if you're in the area and jonesing for something legit.

* My ratings aren't relative to the rest of Bermuda but to what U.S. BAers are likely used to. *
