I picked this one up after having enjoyed some Larry recently, hoping that it might be close to being as good. Not so much. 12oz bottle with a "for freshest taste enjoy by" date of Sep 2010. Pours an amber, orange color. Slight head, with a bit of lacing. Smell is of some hops and maybe a bit of citrus. Tastes pretty good. Somewhat bitter with a taste of hops and to a lesser extent, citrus. Its a decent IPA and trying to compare it to Larry is unfair. That being said, I've had many better IPAs than this. Wouldn't go out of my way to grab it again but if it showed up in a Wachusett mix 12 pack I wouldnt be disappointed.

Tasting my first offering from this Mass brewer, poured a clear lighter copper, with tight one finger white head that left a ring of lace as it settled slowly.Fruity categorizes the aroma for me tangerine and orange-like hop profile I also pick up some caramel sweetness underneath, very nice coating mouthfeel it glides down easy and is very smooth. This is not a hop bomb just a quaffable moderatly hopped for an IPA ale, that tangerine note in the nose shows up on the palate as well a touch of pine but its not very pronounced a hefty caramel malt base along with a faint buttery finish. This is an IPA to quaff its not over the top in hops (wich I love)but is flavorful and I think would be a good entry level IPA for people who wanna explore into the style, solid.

Appearance: Pours a brilliant medium copper with a substantial light tan head.

Aroma: Good hoppy tones with some sweet malt giving depth.

Taste: Nice hoppy bitterness throughout, especially in the finish. Malt adds a good backbone. Could use some more hops, IMHO.

Mouthfeel: Flavorful, but too light. Needs more body and wieght.

Drinkability: A good effort, but not hoppy enough for an IPA, IMHO. Give it a try if you are in the area, but no need to seek it out.

So, we're out for dinner after the BBF, and I had this beer. I think it held up rather well after spoiling my palate with all the great Belgians. It was a faintly hazy orange with a medium head and some good lacing. A pleasant citrus/floral aroma. Citrus taste with nice hops bitterness. Fairly robust. I'd drink this beer again.

Presentation: 12 oz. brown bottle with a freshness date.

Appearance: Golden/light amber in colour, with some haze. Excellent semi-white head that froths up almost like cream and sticks to the glass (dip your finger in it, and taste the hops!).

Smell: Hops with a sweet citrus aroma, and malt sweetness.

Taste: Rich and smooth mouthfeel up-front, followed by a malt sweetness and some light toasted malt notes that carry through very nicely into a well balanced dose of hops. Hop flavours are indeed very present when they claim name to the brews style with a sharp, prickly, almost salty raw hop flavour at the end. Up-front the hops meld nicely with the maltiness of this brew with hop oil, grapefruit-like, citrus notes. With so much flavour, this brew amazingly finishes rather clean on the palate, although we'll warn you ... you'll be burping hops.

Notes: IPA's are probably one of the most common styles in the US, at the moment. Honestly, I've been getting tired of them, however, not only did I enjoy this IPA, I also think that it's one of WBC's best brews. Definitely worth a try ...

12 oz brown bottle with a freshness date on the side of the label.

A- Orange amber haze ... completely hazed over. Two fingers of foam subside to a mere bubbly ring of lace that shows minimal head retention.

S- Big citric tone and orange rind hop character in the nose, hint of biscuity malt, nutty yeast and fruity esters in there as well.

T&M- Very smooth with a medium body. Orangey hop profile; juice to rind. Sharp bite of bitterness followed by a chalky yeast then a mild maltiness and faint fruity esters. Finishes with a long lingering bitterness and malt sweetness tail.

D- This is more of your run-of-the-mill Micro Brewery IPA and not very clean at that with the flavors all muddled together. Worth a try but don't expect a hop party in your mouth.

12 ouncer with freshness dating notched on the label. (not noting which year is being referred to allways annoys me however) Pours a light copper/amber, clear with a nice fine tiny bubble head. Leaves behind some well developed lace sheets of lacing. NIce. Light hoppy nose. Medium bodied. NIce hoppy IPA, here, grainy hops present and up front. Hops not overwhelming, but seem to fit into the typical decent IPA range. Drinkable sessioner.

Appearance: 1/2 inch head, high carbonation, gold in color, clear, a lot of nice lacing

Smell: citrus hops, brown sugar, and malt

Taste: light citrus and floral hops mixed with some toasted malt

Mouthfeel: semi-bitter with a sweeter finish, high carbonation, light bodied

Drinkability: This is a nicely balanced IPA that I could have several of. The hops are there but not overpowering. Nice, light, and refreshing, I will pick this up again.

Dark yellow with a white head and some retention and lacing. Aroma is fairly hoppy with some citrus and a touch of caramel and biscuit. Taste is much of the same, but the hoppyness comes out stronger than in the nose. Nice hoppy finish to this one. Medium carbonation and body. Good beer, could probably drink a fair amount of this. Thanks to hopdog for the sample.

On tap at the AOBF. Brewed especially for the AOBF and this one was aged in oak.

Coppery-colored in appearance, with a tolerable whitish-colored head that laced the glass in spotty patches. Definite hoppy aromas, spicy, piney, citrusy...the works. Taste followed smell, with a dry hoppy flavors of the citrus and spice shining through. Strangely, I only noticed just the slightest contribution from the oak aging. Compared to some of the other aged beers we had this evening, I was surpised by the lack of "wooden" flavor. Mouthfeel is good, with a clean and crisp finish. A very drinkable beer...nothing too heavy on the palate and not much in the way of a bitter aftertaste. I'd recommend this one.

Again, thanks to bjohnson for a NE area IPA from my Wants for the BA Anny Club. Pours with a slight head. The color is a little light for an IPA. Smells of citrusy hops. Taste is also mostly citrus hops with a good bit of bitterness. Mouthfeel is a tad bitter. Easy to drink and probably able to be a session beer with an ABV under 6%. Not bad but not noteworthy as an IPA.

Appearance - light coper in colour, slight haze but for the most part clear. decent foamy head, real lightness to the head. head is white in appearance and some min lacing. there is also some minor carbonation present.

Smell - Hops, pine, some citrus and earthy tones. very light smelling beer, nothing to dominant.

Taste - not a strong tasting IPA, very bland actually. i found the hops did not come through, they where well hidden. You can pick up on the pine a bit and earthy tones.

Mouthfeel - overall, not a lot of volume added, has some good residual tastes, but nothing special.

Overall - I expected more from the smell, like this was going to blow my mind. this was an ok beer, just not a dominant IPA,

Hazy apricot color with a chunky, lumpy, frothy head. Had to actually get my nose wet to pick up a tiny aroma of hop and citrus. Flavor is initially citrusy, but a very low hop profile. A bit of an alcohol flourish in the finish, and then a strange metallic aftertaste. Sort of a "corn out of a tin can" kinda thing. Fine lacing down the glass. This seemed more like a pale ale, but the metallic flavor will keep me away.

This beer is a very pleasant India Pale Ale. It arrives in the pint glass as a nice amber coloration. There was a descent foamy head. The smell has strong hints of the tasty hops contained within. The taste is nicely hoppy with smooth undertones of sweet malt. A very good beer. Give it a try.

Poured into becker pint glass; clear bright orange with a huge flufy white head that leaves a good amount of medium lacing. Smell is a nice blend of crackery malts and sweet/herbal hops. Taste is tame and balanced; crackery biscuity malt is paired perfectly with a dash of bitter and herbal hops. I've had better IPAs in this tamer vein, but this one isn't bad.

on-tap at Wachusett Brewery

This is the first of their beers that I've ever tried. It pours an nice, amber color with a cumulo nimbus looking froth. It has a nice hop bouquet - one that seemed intense when I lived back in Boston, but now in the land of the West Coast hop monsters seemed subtle. The finish is dry and refreshing.

This is Wachusett's finest.

Had beer on tap at local pub

A - Nice looking IPA with a bright amber color which creates one finger of off white head and some light lacing around the glass. Good carbonation going here.

S - An aroma of citrus, grapefruit, oranges and lemon peels are all present.

T - Very tangy hoppy taste with a minimal malt profile. There are plenty of hops on board with a nice resiny finish to the beer. There is a slight malty tone to the back end of the sip but not over powering. Hop presence is the game with this beer.

M - Hoppy and resiny feel with moderate carbonation and a caramel finish to the beer.

D - Very drinkable session beer if you like a good dose of hops on board. Very nicely done Wachusett!! I will definitely drink this again!

Wachusett- IPA

A- Golden orange brown with a thick frothy head.
S- Sweet citrus. Orange, ruby red grapefruit, and lemon.
T- A fine balance of vanilla caramel malt and a lightly sweetened orange, grapefruit rind juice.
M- Sweet with a nice fruity hop bitterness bite. Creamy finish.

Overall- Sessionable. An easy drinker, not a mind blowing IPA but a good 1 thats easy to pound!
