One of my current favorites! Great hops aroma and flavor and bitter bite. Only negatives are a slight haze (OK for this style) and a little thinness to the mouthfeel. I'd be happy drinking nothing but this for the rest of my life.

This is my new favorite IPA. It combines every element of an IPA in a perfect combination for me. So that's very specific to my tastes. Here's what I like about it: the hoppy taste and bubbliness is the perfect level. Both are stronger than many IPAs but not so overpowering in either respect. Perfect aftertaste: hoppy, a little fruity. I don't taste the blueberries like other reviewers, but the taste and smell does have a subtle fruitiness, so I guess it could very well be blueberry. I understand that the head and retention of this beer are not as good as other IPAs, but for me, the taste is exactly what I look for so I"m giving it a great rating. Great, hoppy, easy to drink IPA.

Shock. The one word says it all. I exspected a standard IPA, but this was a keeper. Not over hopped, like some left coast brews, this beer had an amazing mix of hops, that did not take away from it's overall taste. A definite great IPA, and coming from such a parocial brewery, it tasted so much better.

Pours a bright golden copper with a nice pillowy head that never really leaves and a nice lace a well. The smell is heavy on floral hops with a little bit of malt thrown in. The brew starts out with a strong hop bitterness before the hops wage a battle for dominance of the brew with the malt. In the end the hops win out but the malt sticks around to provide a very nice balance to the brew. The maltiness definitely comes out more as the beer warms as it starts off all citrus/grapefruit hops before mellowing out towards the end. Very crisp and refreshing and a great brew for the summertime as it is a serious thirstquencher and seriously drinkable. Definitely one of my favorites from Wachusett, this is definitely a first class IPA and as my friend the Bierman would say it is A1. Thanks to the Birman for the sample.

D - Wonderfully drinkable, a hell of a lot of flavor for a 5.6% beer

This is a great IPA...a big fluffy head that stays and rings it's way down the glass. Nice citrusy smell with a nice grapefruitish flavour that ends with a real green hoppy taste. Really really tasty.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light amber color with a short white head that fades slowly and leaves a decent lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is a good combination of hops bitterness and citrus sweetness with a little bit of maltiness.

T: The taste is nicely bitter with that floral hops flavor that you look for in this style. There’s a decently hearty malt character and mild fruity citrus sweetness that provides a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bitter.

M: Smooth and very crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, clean and dry finish.

D: Tasty, goes down easy, not very filling, good representation of style, decent kick, I could drink several of these in an evening. This is may not be the most hyped IPA but I think it can hang with those that are. If you’re looking for one of those local gems, this may be one for you.

This beer is a very pleasant India Pale Ale. It arrives in the pint glass as a nice amber coloration. There was a descent foamy head. The smell has strong hints of the tasty hops contained within. The taste is nicely hoppy with smooth undertones of sweet malt. A very good beer. Give it a try.

I'm a big IPA fan, and I've tried a few. This is one of the regular hoppy varieties, not one of those super-hopped types. Nice smooth hoppy taste...traditional and balanced. Tastes very quality clean and pure. I would consider this up there, a bit better than Harpoon and many others....I've had better, but not too many. Basically an awesome drinking beer you could make a regular guest in your fridge any time of year.

Big foamy, resinous white colored beer is sticky as all hell; leaving almost a sheet of lace. Chewy piney and grapefruit hop aroma. Citrus hop flavor is really tasty, and supported by some pale malts. There's a mild bitterness that comes out as the beer warms. Mouthfeel is soft and smooth. Just goes to show an IPA doesn't have to be a hop bomb to be good.

Pours a dark orange/cloudy golden color with a small head--Doesn't have much head retention but leaves great lace. Smells and tastes fruity or citrusy with avery good mouth color. This is a very drinkable beer any time of the year. Wachusett has many great brews and this rates among their best.

A: Orange/amber appearance. Thin white lace.

S: Hops, Hops, Hops. A little fruit and malt. Clearly, this is an IPA.

T: Hops and grapefruit are the first flavors that jump out at me. I could have this for breakfast. The malt starts to peek through at the end, but the hops stay right there with it. Manages to stay fairly balanced with all the hop flavors jumping around. Actually, it finishes quite smooth and clean.

M: Medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Crisp and slightly coarse.

D: This is one of my favorites. Not as big as some of the newer IPA's, but, it doesn't have to be with all the flavor going on here. A very solid and flavorful beer. Good for a session, too.

Sampled on tap... Nice golden to dark-golden color, a touch cloudy. Had a nice floral hop aroma. Medium body/feel on the tongue....very nice. Touch of malt to start, with a nice (!) hop finish. Not as much hop oomph as I like, but quite nice.

A - Pours a cloudy orange color, with a medium sized, foamy head

S - Citrus fruits on the nose. Smells sweet

T - Taste foillows the nose as it is very sweet, malty, not really at all what I was expecting. There is some sort of sweet fruitiness in there as well, maybe a clementine, or tangerine, or some type of sweet citrus fruit.

M - Nice medium body, prickly carbonation.

O - Overall I really enjoyed this. Its a little different than a lot of IPA's, low bitterness, higher sweetness. An easy drinking, pleasant suprise

WACHUSETT has a clearly marked freshness date on a plain label with a notch in April. Uh-oh...it's June. Here goes nothin'...c'mon seven come eleven. "Availible only in Massachusettes" bottlecap greets me first. Out with it, you 12 oz. devil!

Clear deep hazy orange pour topped off with tons 'o two finger deep cake-like off white head and a scant bit of a bubble here 'n there escaping. Mild head retention that leaves meandering hops Missippippi River silhouettes down the glass.

Fruity floral hops effervescence in the nose a la Anderson's Hop Ottin' and some grainy malt back up.

Sweet & bitter IPA taster. Well grounded while being lemon orange hoppy and citrusy. Powdery mild grassy notes with orangey fruit and earthy tones in the flavor. Overall dry aftertaste somewhat lingering. Some lolipop lingering malts.

Decent mouthfeel sizzle.

A mild ABV and well rounded IPA that goes a bit into the hop 'til ya drop genre for beer snobs like me but not too much to lose the average Joe.

Last swigs: If you like IPAs like little ole me, these could go back all night long quick fast and in a hurry. Plenty of full flavor and hops to please. This is not a 2IPA contender, but well worth seeking. Trust me. Thanks to my friend JBDubs from Millis for smuggling this one across state lines.

Beer is good. Happy hoppy beering.

Wachusett IPA
12 oz brown bottle
Freshness date notched for September
Served in a 20 oz tulip pint glass
* Directly from the brewery

Pours a hazy orange brown color with a great fluffy head on top. Spotted sticky lacings cling on the sides of the glass.

The aroma is a combination of hops and zingy citrus scents.

This is a very sweet and hoppy IPA. Grainy and sweet from the malts, but overall most of the attention must be given to the sharp hop flavors. Citrusy and biting, the hop presence in this beer is at the forefront.

One of the better session IPA's in this market if you can find it fresh. The brewers at Wachusett did a good job on this one. Credit must be given.

sampled at the bar at red fez. gave a hard pour, but was unnecessary- the beer overflowed. when things settled, the brew was a nice golden copper with a big white head. smell was citrusy, hoppy and a touch earthy. taste was hop, hop, hop. and then pine, citrus and a little more hop. ends with a very clean finish.

ipswich ipa has been my ipa of choice of late and think that this may take over for a while. a big, yet highly drinkable hoppy treat.

Lightly hazy, yet still bright, pumpkinish amber... a beautiful IPA hue. Richly cream-like describes both the color and the consistency of the cap, a cap that has a soapy, bubbly crown and that leaves plenty of soapy, bubbly lace. The nose is fantastic and could only come from bushel baskets full of the finest North American hops. I don't know if this beer is dry-hopped or not, but it sure smells like it. Pink grapefruit peel is uppermost.

While it isn't quite as snaptastic on the palate, this is still wonderful beer. For starters, there's a satisfactory amount of malt; noted more with regards to body/mouthfeel than actual flavor. The hops build steadily from the moment beer enters mouth, but don't really peak, they just sort of level off. Thankfully, the point at which they level off is satisfying enough, even for a hophead. The body/mouthfeel is medium in a general sense and the low level of carbonation is welcome.

Wachusett India Pale Ale is damn good beer. It has a first-rate aroma with an easily accessible hoppiness that should appeal to just about everyone. Another tasty treat from the Northeast courtesy of blitheringidiot.

Purchased a six pack from Martignetti's

Appearance = Really nice looking clear honey amber with a ton of bubbles rising upward. Great 3/4'' creamy head that lasted quite awhile. This is a really nice looking beer.

Smell = Pleasant citrus pine smell. Not really memorable but good for an IPA. Citrus flavors dominate from the hops. There's a slight skunky smell that I can't qutie place but this knocks the smell down a bit. I hope this won't factor into the taste.

Taste = This is a really great tasting IPA. It's light but flavorful which leads to exceptional drinkability and would make this a perfect session beer. It's well balanced with a nice malt flavor coming after the hops, which are definitely showcased but not in your face in anyway. Mouthfeel is a little thin which is my only complaint but other than that this beer is great.

Overall = Wachusett did a fine job on this one. I definitely recommend it if you happen to see it somewhere. It's their best offering, along with the blueberry ale. Great, refreshing, tasty IPA that doesn't lack much.

Drank from a 12 fl. oz. bottle purchased at Cappy's Liquors, Cambridge, MA

Poured a slightly hazy, amber-orange with a two-finger, fluffy, white head that faded to a thin film. Lacing was sticky, moderately intense and lasted throughout the drink.

Smell was rich and hoppy. Punchy cascade hops and grapefruit dominated with some ripe fruits and sweet malts following.

The taste was very hoppy as well, yet smooth and well balanced. Intense floral hops were obvious from start to finish. Juicy, citrusy notes helped make this beer crisp and refreshing.

Full bodied with perfect carbonation.

Easy drinking and refreshing. Pairs well with barbecued foods.

Overall, a terrific IPA that truly distinguishes itself from its counterparts.

Got this as a beer of the month in New Bedford, MA.. only $5.99 a six pack!

A well above average IPA, super hoppy in aroma and taste and it's all well balanced. It's a bit low in the ABV so it's pretty drinkable but it's very clean, crisp, and refreshing. Sadly, no other Wachusett beers are available around here in CT.

on-tap at Wachusett Brewery

This is the first of their beers that I've ever tried. It pours an nice, amber color with a cumulo nimbus looking froth. It has a nice hop bouquet - one that seemed intense when I lived back in Boston, but now in the land of the West Coast hop monsters seemed subtle. The finish is dry and refreshing.

This is Wachusett's finest.

Another outstanding beer from the brewers at Wachusett. This is a hefty beer. Taste is nicely balanced between the hops, bitters and the spice that makes IPA's so wonderful. I have had this beer on several occasions in several different serving formats. I guess it's a tribute to the beer, they have all been dramatically different from each other, but all equally as good. This is a great brewery.

Light bronze hue, with good clarity. Slowly receding ivory white head leaves sparse lace. Butter sprinkled clementine and mildly toffeeish medium lovibond caramel dominates the aroma, with subtle hints of biscuit secondary. Hop nose becomes slightly minty as the hop oils evaporate. Brief snap of buttered caramel intially in flavor readily yields to a combination of pronounced cracker and moderate, clean hop bitterness. Brown sugar notes run as an undertone and complement the ripe citrus hop flavor, lending a lightly caramelized orange slice impression mid palate. Drys considerably late, with notes of hydroscopic unsalted crouton seemingly absorbing most residal sweetness. Sufficiently dextrinous for a smooth, almost soft mouthfeel. Finishes with a lingering extension of citrus and well baked, fresh biscuit. A tasty IPA heavy on the caramel and biscuit presence, but with plenty of balancing, satiating hop bitterness. I think I'm beginning to "get" these fine northeast IPAs...
