Pours a golden amber with a big bubble, loosly packed head that falls quickly leaving spotty, doyley lace across the glass. Smell is quite balanced between a bready, caramel, crystal malt sweetness and an orange zest (cascades?) bitterness. The hops come across very floral and a bit grainy. Flavor is unique. Sweet malty flavors of raisin bread hit the front of the tongue and are quickly followed by a hop presence that begins a bit earthy and transfers into a nice floral citrus bouquet. The finish is bitter and dry but balanced. Certainly well crafted, nothing to complain about here!

Thanks Corey!

I got this bottle in a trade with DLucky. Thanks Dan!

It pours a clear orange gold with a 1 finger head of foam that shrinks quickly to just a ring around the glass. Lacing is close to nonexistant.

The smell is both hoppy and malty. Good citrus notes with some orange and lemon, and a caramel malt nose that also brings some candy sugar-like sweetness.

The taste is of grapefruit and lemon that packs some good bitterness and a bready malt base that's backed up by caramel malt sweetness. The finish is slightly bitter in this light bodied IPA and there's little to no aftertaste.

Overall, I think this is a pretty good example of the style. It just lacks a bit of assertiveness with the flavours, imho.

Appearance: pours a clear orange color with a two finger head that slowly falls to a thick surface layer that lasts. Some big bubbles in the head too.

Smell: orange, lemon, and a nice floral quality rises from the glass.

Taste: decent malt base with floral hop bitterness, orange, and lemon zest. There is a hint of peach in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: crisp throughout. Short aftertaste too. Medium bodied.

Drinkability: solid sessionable beer. This IPA doesn't kill the tastebuds with hop overload, but provides enough excitement you will want another one. Try this.

Poured from a 12 oz. brown bottle into a pint glass.
A: Orange colored brew, pretty clear. Whitish head, one inch thick, kinda frothy. Slippery and thin lacing sheets that slide quickly into the beer.
S: Citrus and floral hops predominate, backed by some grainy and sugary malts. Solid.
T: Floral hops and grains up front, giving way to more citrus/sweet flavors in the middle. Finish is leafy and still citrusy, with a lingering hop nip. Quite nice.
M: Feels good, nice hop nip to it, not too bitter and not too malty.
D: Nicely quaffable. I could drink a few of these in one sitting.

A - Clear gold with a big, rocky, clinging foam.

S - Not overly pungent - some fresh hoppiness, tangerines and light malt backbone.

T - Flavour is more pronounced in hoppiness. Some pine is most evident, but also some lemon, orange and grapefruit. Not as over-the-top as some IPAs.

M - Light-moderate body and soft carbonation.

D - Very drinkable. One of the more drinkable IPAs I've had. Flavour profile is a bit lighter as well.

Pours hazed amber with a thin white head. Some trailing lacing sticks.

The smell is of citrus and pine with caramel candy.

The taste is citric (grapefruit rind) and piney with smell biscuity caramel. This fits into the "more balanced" IPA category. I can appreciate a more balanced IPA, but that's pretty much all this is. Fits the requirements of the style, but doesn't go much beyond. There is a hop flavor - grapefruit - but, it is on the sweet side. Something rather lackluster about the finish, which reminds me of sweetened grapefruit juice, in a way.

Medium-bodied, pretty smooth, but not quite chewy.

A more balanced, sweeter American IPA. Drinkable, but would get lost in the competition out there of this style, IMO.

This IPA presents a golden clear color with a nice white head and good lace. The aroma is mild malt and brown sugar with subtle pine hops. It tastes of dry pine hops and cracker. It's quite light but very agreeable. Fair bodied with light carbonation, very drinkable and a very solid IPA worth trying.

12 ounce, single, bottle purchased for $1.99 from Gary's in Madison...
First-ever beer from this Massachusetts brewery...
Pours a light, tawny, bright-amber, slight copper appearance with a minimal frothy head that quickly dissipated and left a minimal amount of lacing around the edge of the glass...
Nice, subtle aroma of fresh hops, florals, citrus, and lemon zest...
Taste strongly resembled the smell, with a nice suggestion of hops, citrus, lemons, grapefruit, and fresh florals...
Good, rich, bittersweet, slightly sour mouthfeel with an equally good level of drinkability for an IPA - definitely not too cloying and very pleasing...
Good stuff and a great depiction of the style - recommended...

pours a medium amber in color with a two finger off white head that held very well with some spotty lace. fruity and citrus in the nose. slightly sweet and biscuity malt up front, taste of yeast and bitter citrus hops in the finish. light to medium body and more carbonation would have helped. not a standout but ok.

12 ounce bottle received as an extra from tprokop7, thanks for including this in my package, split with a friend tonight, poured into a pint glass

A-Golden yellow color with some orange highlights, 1/2 inch creamy white head that stuck around for quite some time, some lacing too

S-Tons of bready malt aromas, citrus that mostly consists of grapefruit and pineapples, some floral accents, and sweetness

T-Bread and biscuit hit me first, then some pine and floral hoppiness in the middle, followed by a citrus zest and other fruit sweetness in the finish, as it warmed it became sweeter and it really showed that it is unbalanced and malt was overpowering, hops mellow too quickly and lack any strength, not the way prefer my IPAs but still not bad

M-Malty and dry mouthfeel, thin to medium body, could use some more carbonation in my opinion, taste did not last long

D-Could drink a few bottles of this, light on the stomach, low in ABV, smooth for the most part, everything is hidden, refreshing

Never even heard of this brewery but not a bad IPA, always happy to have the chance to try something new, too malty for my preferences but others might enjoy it

Rocky bright-white head with good ring lace. Slight haze to the light amber color.

Decent fresh hop aroma with a good neutral malt background. I smell pineapple and grapefruit.

Relatively dry malt; just about the perfect balance for an IPA. The hop becomes stronger during the tasting until the swallow where it is the only lingering flavor. Typical body and carbonation.

I like this IPA. I believe it may be a little underestimated because of it is so typical (i.e. not extreme). This will not "wow" anyone in the extreme department, but it is a solid entrant for an IPA.

Wachusett- IPA

A- Golden orange brown with a thick frothy head.
S- Sweet citrus. Orange, ruby red grapefruit, and lemon.
T- A fine balance of vanilla caramel malt and a lightly sweetened orange, grapefruit rind juice.
M- Sweet with a nice fruity hop bitterness bite. Creamy finish.

Overall- Sessionable. An easy drinker, not a mind blowing IPA but a good 1 thats easy to pound!

This beer poured a clear orange/tan body with a big frothy head.

Nose is a distinct fresh citrus hop mixed with lovely soft doughy/bread quality.

Taste is medium bodied and very clean from start to finish. There's a pungent citrus peel hop taste and a strong bitterness that sits just above the balance of the beer, but still feels right in the IPA. Touches of black pepper, citrus peel, spice and grapefruit juice. Malt backbone is again a nice dough and bread like taste. Very clean and very drinkable. This is a session beer for sure. Ends with a nice mild lingering bitterness.

Just a great session IPA. One of local restaurant always has this on tap, and it's easily just as good a beer to turn to as DFH 60 minute or SNPA. A great beer I could drink all night long.

A: Poured a light copper-orange with a patchy, frothy white head that was modertly lasting. Visible carbonation was light-moderate.

S: On the nose was fresh pine and oranges with a slight hint of fresh cut grass.

T: The initial flavor started out malty, with some sour citrus hopping and malt as well hints of fresh cut grass. The beer finished dry with a gentle sour malt and citrus lacing on the tongue along with dry flora notes.

M: The mouthful was moderate and creamy.

D: Drinkability was good overall while flavor was just moderate and average per style. Yawn.

Thanks to TheManiacalOne for getting me a few East Coast IPAs to taste...

A: pours a lighter oragish-honey color, semi clear appearance
S: fresh floral scent, sugary sweet fruits, figs, apricots, malty citrus with hop aroma
T: at first, fruity, floral, ever so slight hop flavor. Most of this flavor is up front with not much left behind...but a very faint grapefruit bitterness. Its kinda lackluster in the flavor profile, almost "flat" if you will.
M: light, fluffy, bubbles rush past the tongue. Not much left behind after that...
D: Its definately a lighter IPA, perhaps good for the summertime when mowing the lawn. It left me expecting more flavor and hop character. Its almost a flat beer in that respect. Could be a good session beer if nothing else is available. Slightly below average, and I dont think I would buy a 6 pack of it...but it was a true pleasure to experience the brew.

Poured from a brown, 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a golden amber color with a modest head which leaves some lace on the glass.

A citrus hop smell is quite prevalent with this beer.

The citrus hop flavor hits you right up front. This beer certainly showcases the hops as you would expect from an IPA. A strong grapefruit flavor lingers on the tongue and dominates the palate. Malt plays a supporting role, adding some sweetness in the background.

The beer has a decent body and mouthfeel. I found it quite enjoyable to drink.

I love hops, so I enjoyed the beer quite thoroughly. It was a refreshing beer and I could easily knock back a few at a sitting and be perfectly happy. I think this is probably my favorite out of the Wachusett collection.

Although not strong enough to really be an IPA, this beer was nonetheless quite tasty and drinkable. It had the typical citrusy/grassy flavours with just enough malt to round it out. Despite it being on the lighter side for an IPA, the flavor is delicate and complex and compelled me to drink another.

This one was quite a nice suprise to me to be honest. I was expecting it to be a run of the mill IPA and it had a nice little body to it and really kinda won me over in the end. Poured a nice strong amber with a good two inch plus head of foamy sticky white lace. Good head retention as it really hung around for a good long while. Very nice side glass presentation as well. Smell was lightly hopped, not overpowering but good notes of citrus and pine on the nose. An underlying malt back was definatly present and rounded out the aroma very nicely. Taste was nice, well rounded flavor profile. Initial decent bite of hops quickly melded into an earthy, ugary back with a lot of bread notes to it. Very well balaanced. Nice dry finish left you wanting at least another sip. Good strong mouthfeel, thick, but not syrupy with a great carbonation. Excellent session beer. Good easily see myself having more then a few of these in an evening. Overall this was really quite good. This actually made me intrested in trying some others from the brewery and I am definatly open to trades for them.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light amber color with a short white head that fades slowly and leaves a decent lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is a good combination of hops bitterness and citrus sweetness with a little bit of maltiness.

T: The taste is nicely bitter with that floral hops flavor that you look for in this style. There’s a decently hearty malt character and mild fruity citrus sweetness that provides a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bitter.

M: Smooth and very crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, clean and dry finish.

D: Tasty, goes down easy, not very filling, good representation of style, decent kick, I could drink several of these in an evening. This is may not be the most hyped IPA but I think it can hang with those that are. If you’re looking for one of those local gems, this may be one for you.

12oz bottle with july notched, I assume that's 07. Dark orange color with great head and lace. Looks damn good. Aroma is mild for an IPA but still alludes to what's to come. Pale ale like malt base, fresh tasting and sweet with bittering hops tipping the flavor towards more hoppy. Mellow aroma hops. Taste is more towards blood orange than grapefruit. Carbonation adds to great mouthfeel. Mellow for an IPA overall and tastes like an American pale ale. Great taste with a high drinkability and should make a good session brew. 12 fl oz brown bottle, served in a nonic.
Best before 08.2007.

Full copper in color with golden highlights. Half-inch, creamy white head with good retention. Ringed, broken lacing with good strength.

Juicy, floral hop resins. Moderate aroma of slightly sweet tea. Notes of mild citrus fruit.

Rough, floral and pine flavored hops. Airy, biscuit malts with a layer of diacetyl. Weak tea with a metallic off-flavor. Bleachy, dry finish is followed by a floral-tea aftertaste.

Medium bodied; gritty, earthen, yet musty and dry at times.

A decent IPA with noticeable flaws in flavor and body.

Again, thanks to bjohnson for a NE area IPA from my Wants for the BA Anny Club. Pours with a slight head. The color is a little light for an IPA. Smells of citrusy hops. Taste is also mostly citrus hops with a good bit of bitterness. Mouthfeel is a tad bitter. Easy to drink and probably able to be a session beer with an ABV under 6%. Not bad but not noteworthy as an IPA.

Refreshing brew, above average but no special character to speak of.
Appearances of a murky golden/yellow with average carbonation, limited crown and thin lace.
The taste is that of a maltier pale ale than that of an IPA, this brew is to well balanced to feature the hops even tho they are prevelent but not to the point where they are featured as the star. Some citrus, some woody and some wort like flavours dominate in a mash like style ale. Mouthfeel is a little syrupy as well

Pours a slightly hazy amber/copper, thick white head forms, very rocky, some nice lacing as well, good retention. Looks nice. Smell is malty and sweet, toffee, citrus hops, some floral, little bit of apricot, not over the top but pleasant. Taste is malty, very bready, some toffee, grains, light citrus and floral hops, some grapefruit in the finish, slightly bitter, malty in the back of the mouth. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, with low carbonation, very smooth. Not bad but I expect more character in my IPA's.
