12oz bottle with a best before July, 2011 notched on the label.
Poured into a Liefmans Cervoise.

A-> pours a beautiful deep amber/tawny-esque color with just about a full finger of head with lots of sticky lacing. Fabulous nucleation (thanks in large part to the glassware I'm sure but still worth noting)

S-> bouquet is tough to place. muted florals, definite spicy grassyness yet no fruity esters or anything resembling citrus is detectable. Leafy hops are present as are bready/biscuity malt aromas albeit very subtle/faint.

T-> Interesting. Hops are obviously prevalent however without the dominating bitterness. The grassy notes from the nose are indeed here but what really took center stage are the malts. Slightly sweet at the start and through the middle with a the bread/biscuit taste showing up as it rolls over the tongue. Finishes with a sweet crispyness.

M-> Very clean, crisp, and refreshing. Fairly light in body with good carbonation.

O-> Very different than most IPAs that I've had, granted my palate isn't the most developed or mature so take that with a grain of salt. But this doesn't mean the beer is bad by any means, just unique and in fact it is quite drinkable and I would imagine will be very refreshing in the coming, warmer months. I would try this again for sure....

Had this on tap at BBC in Franklin, MA as an opening day promo for the Red Sox. Beers pours a bronze amber with about a finger of fluffy off-white head. Moderate retention and lacing.

Smell is hoppy, but muted. Mostly centennial hops. It's not a hop bomb and it doesn't smell like one. An inviting aroma.

Taste was slightly underwhelming. It's hoppy, but not overly citrusy, piney or bitter. A touch of malty sweetness was present. All in all, the flavor was nice, but just not pronounced enough for my taste and somewhat of a lingering bitter after taste.

The mouthfeel was medium bodied, a touch oily but otherwise, it was a nice, middle of the road drinakble IPA. Pretty good if you're in the mood for a decent beer watching a ballgame, but not much more.

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #51 (April 2011):

New season of baseball, so a new version of Green Monsta is only fitting. Hops help out big time with the spectacular- looking head, and the brassy color underneath shows only a faint haze. Spicy, herbal and citric hop trio in the aroma; hint of ripe fruit and bread crust as well. Dry, more refined smoothness is quickly met by the semi-brash bitterness and sharp citric and oily herbal hop flavor. Suggestion of pears and mangoes in the middle from the alcohol. Maltiness is a little slim and certainly dry, with a light biscuity tone in the bitter dry finish. The American IPA style is a tough crowd—drinkable and hoppy are two things going for this beer.

A bright gold color. Nice white head that leaves a tiny bit of lace.
Citrus and sweet malt aroma. Timid.
Grapefruit and white bread taste. Again, not quite there.
Light- bodied.

A = Distinctly amber, with a respectable head that leaves ample lacing.
S = Hoppy without hitting you in the face, and a sweet fruitiness to the malt.
T = A slightly maltier IPA, nothing too dry or too bitter. I like it!
M = Medium bodied, just the right amount of lingering on the tongue.

O = I'm not an IPA fan, but this one is nice. The hop/malt balance is just right, and the fruitiness is a nice surprise. The hops don't assault, rather they add admirably to the complexity of this brew. I think this would pair nicely with just about any food that is traditionally served at Fenway Park -- GO, Boston Redsox!!

Subtle, but flavorful. This IPA is not as bitter as most, but still has plenty of flavor. Orange-Amber color, not strong in the smell department, smooth mouth feel and finish.

This is one of my all-time favorite beers! A light golden brown color and often pours with quite a bit of head, which tends to stick around for awhile as I drink it (which I do find a tad bit annoying!). The smell isn't particularly distinguishing or intense, but there is a light citrus-like smell to it combined with hoppiness that predominates.

It's incredibly refreshing and practically bursting with hops when you drink it, yet balanced enough so that it isn't overpowering. You can taste a slight citrus flavor as well to match the smell. It is quite carbonated, which in some cases can adversely affect the flavor of beers - however, in this particular case, the amount of carbonation seems to only compliment the flavor. There is pretty much no aftertaste other than a slight "crispness" from the carbonation and hops, which I love (I very much dislike flavors that linger for too long in the mouth).

The taste is consistent despite the temperature of the beer, which I find refreshingly wonderful. I could drink this during any season, but I'd say it's more of a summer/early fall-type beer due to its refreshing and light, yet very flavorful, quality.

Even better that it's called "Green Monsta." Go Sox! :)
