White Hawk Select IPAWhite Hawk Select IPA
Notes: White Hawk Select IPA is a traditional India Pale Ale. We’ve blended American West Coast Cascade Hops with a very generous dose of English Fuggle Hops. This combination makes for a very aromatic character, as well as a truly authentic English flavor which you must taste to believe. “Hopheads” will love this brew!

Pours with a huge head, frothy and rocky and it stays that while for quite some time. Golden color - with exceptional clarity. Plenty of hops in the nose, and this travels through to the mouthfeel. High alcohol punch at first that makes way for a hoppy bitterness that does linger, but not as long as I would expect. Good hoppiness but lacks the refinement of a good English IPA for me, neverthless a reasonable beer, an average example of a well hopped beer.
I know there is a difference between English and American IPA's, and I think after 12 months in the USA I now know what it is - but, I am not convinced this beer does, it tries to be both in my humble opinion.

12 oz brown longneck.
This is one of those darker than normal IPA, though not brown, just dark orange and slightly hazy, has a large creamy/foamy off whire head.
The aroma however is not that great for the style, almost has a lagerish smell to it.
This seems to be a balanced IPA, not really in the typical West Coast style, more leaning towards the british stylings. The malts actually dominating the hops for the most part.
Quite a nice tghick mouthfeel ..good for the style.
I found this an acceptable IPA recommended for those that like their hops well balanced.

orange amber with a huge white pillow like head on top. Very and I mean very slowloy receded and left behind lots of lace

profile was filled with hints of orange, grapefruit and pineapple. As it warmed a slight sweetness started to come through,
This was great citrus centric hoppy IPA, It was smooth as silk going down and left a nice dry tingling aftertaste,

12oz glass to a pint glass.

A- Pours a clear golden orange with a thin lace head that leaves its mark across the glass.

S- Big malts, light citrus hop and a funky alcohol scent.

T- Mild citrus, smooth caramel malts.

M- Medium bodied, crisp, smooth, easy to drink at first then tends to get a bit heavy.

O- Overall its ok... the tastes and smell are very unbalanced, this beer needs some work. But for the Price(6 bucks a 6 pack), its doing its job.

MENDOCINO (NY) WHITE HAWK IPA 2/10/16

The fourth and last of the February selections from the beer club membership my daughters gifted me.

a: Clear copper with a half finger thick white head which receded to even surface foam and dense lacing.

s: Slight floral.

t: Moderate pine resin over a medium bready malt base. Bitterness lingers a bit on the dry finish. Later some grassy and mild floral notes appear. 7% ABV is well concealed.

m: Medium, good body and carbonation tingle.

o: An OK dark colored American IPA which starts off rather harsh but mellows and smooths out somewhat. Advertised as an English style IPA which yet will appeal to hopheads. My take is this would not particularly appeal to either Brits or hopheads, although a Brit hophead might appreciate the bitterness.

I'm pleased to see that my boss has taken to buying a variety of good brews for her parties, and this beer is one that I just sampled at one of those parties. Amberish appearance, slightly thin head. The aroma is surprisingly lacking in the hop department with very little of that citrus hop aroma that some of my favorite IPAs put forth so well. Some nice bitterness at the close. Pretty ideal for a hot day and not a bad IPA to share with friends.

Moderately hazy, light golden orange. Nice thick white head.

Nose is light, dominated by citrus, both flesh and rind, with a whiff of soap as well.

Palate begins quite watery, but then the flavor comes. Quite surprisingly, that flavor is sweet malt! Very little hops at all on the palate, incredibly. Wow, not like any other IPA I know, for sure. Finish is ever so slightly bitter and fairly short.

I can see why this has been reviewed rather poorly; it promises at least a smidgen of hops on the nose, but then doesn't deliver in the mouth. DO NOT buy this expecting a true West Coast IPA experience. Nonetheless, it's a pleasant enough drink. The short finish and lack of bitterness would make it a decent session candidate.

Ok, this is a new and unusual IPA. White Hawk is out of California, and this is the first brew of theirs I have tried. It's a worthy choice. It pours a light golden with a solid, almost pure white head that recedes into a fine, lacy residue. The smell is tart and hoppy, like most American IPAles, and the taste, though potent, is not overbearing. There's not a great deal of balance, however, in this ale; that is to say, not much to offset the bitter. I rather like that, but it's not for everyone. A decent brew--give it a try.

A: Pours a cloudy amber body with a small, white head with poor retention and minimal lacing along the sides of the glass.

S: A malty smell with some nice, hoppy undertones. I was expecting it to be more of the other way around, but I think there was not much dry hopping involved in making this IPA.

T: A fairly hoppy taste with a nice, balancing malty aftertaste. Some bitterness was noted in both the taste and aftertaste.

M: A nice, smooth, full-bodied mouthfeel that did well to compliment this IPA.

D: Ok drinkability overall. A decent combination of mouthfeel and taste, but I was hoping for the hops to be a bit more evident. Could have used more of that spicy, earthy IPA taste.

Light copper hue with a thick two finger head and very thick lacing. Very sticky. Smell is kind of metallic with very faint hops and a caramel sweetness. Maybe and old bottle, no visible freshness dates. The taste is of citrus hops, somewhat faded like the smell with a touch of caramel sweetness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a lingering bitterness I am not a fan of (not hop bitterness if that makes sense). Overall, a decent beer for the price but not one of the better ipas ive had. Might buy this again for a party or something, but not really exceptional IMHO.

This was a rather surprising IPA. The label says that it has a 7% ABV, but I don't think that I've ever tasted an IPA with such a muted taste. Usually the hops in IPAs are almost obnoxiously strong; in this beer, you could detect their presence, could taste hints of their flavor, but you won't be over powered by them. It's a refrreshing change from the typical IPA. The beer closely resembles apple cider, had a head that disapated after about 30 seconds. I recommend giving this a try. It's a good IPA for those who aren't die hard IPA fans.

The pub pint I got of Mendocino Brewing Company's Whitehawk IPA pours
out a thin head over a cloudy amber brew. Carbonation is quite active,
and the nose is of malt, citrus, and herbs. As it warmed, I noticed a whiff
of something like Belgian yeast. The flavor is of malt and herb, with a
sharper hop finish. It's interesting that the hops really make themselves
felt in the aftertaste, while the initial taste is mellow. It's not quite up to the
standard of my favorite IPA, Bell's Two-Hearted Ale, but it's really a pretty
decent brew with some unexpected complexity. Alcohol by volume- 7%.

12oz Bottle No Date Poured a clear golden color with a sizable head that dies quickly. Decent hop aroma but a slight metallic note to it.. Smooth medium body with good carbonation. Flavor is lacking a bit. Some good hop flavor that is slightly bitter and lingers that way. Some carbonating flavor I don't care for but overall a decent IPA. Leaves some lacing. Not something I'd drink often.

Pours a dark amber hue with a white semi-creamy head. The beer provides decent lacing. The aroma can be describes as a musty soapy mess. The best characteristics comes from the taste which is boldly hopped. I did enjoy the bitterness as it awoke the taste buds as it crossed my tongue and the aftertaste is a lingering bitterness. All in all this is an average beer when you factor everything together.

I had this right after Humboldt Brewing's Nectar IPA(rated 3.5). I enjoyed this slightly more. I was disapointed by the color. I thought it looked a bit like a slightly cloudy lager. I'm not sure what the correct traditional color should be, but i prefer my IPAs with a bit more color. Nice floral hop aroma on top of a nice crisp hop taste with a bit of apricot sweetness, and reasonably well balanced. Good solid beer but not amazing, but slightly more enjoyable than one i ranked 3.5.

P- Westy's Beer Distributor

A- a hazy light orange color with a half finger head. nice lacing on my glass as well.

S- huge grapefruit hops at first. wheat and dark fruits also are present.

T- a nice hop kick to it but kind of dulled. The grapefruit gets lost. I get dark fruits and and wheat.

M-light on the hops and yet dry and smooth. refreshing feel though.

D- i could pound these back all day long. A case would go by easy.
