Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass

A: Pours a mostly clear golden amber. There is a light tan head which bubbles away to nothing over the course of a few minutes.

S: Maltier than I would expect from an IPA. Sweet toffee and caramel. Also some bitterness from the hops, grass cuttings and subdued floral notes.

T: Still malty, but not as sweet as the aroma; more of a bready flavor. Slight touch of citrus. Earthy bitterness from the hops gives grass, herbal flavors and to a lesser extent some pine. The finish is these bitter hops flavors with mild alcohol heat.

M: Medium bodied with little effervescence from the carbonation. A little bit oily.

O: A pretty decent English style IPA. The bottle advertised it as "West Coast" style so I was somewhat surprised that it was about the opposite end of the spectrum from that.

Very floral, I liked this more than I like most IPAs!

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with no lot code or expiration date. Sampled on October 9, 2009. The pour is a cloudy orange-amber with a very thin, albeit longer lasting beige head. For an IPA the aroma on this brew is extremely malty and sugary sweet. The sweetness is overwhelming. The mouthfeel is nice and durable. The taste is just as sweet as the aroma with elements of sweet malts and honey. The hops are definitely in the picture but they are about equal in quantity with the malts. It is not like the IPA's I have tried.

On tap at My Place in Delmar, NY. English IPA hopped with Fuggles and Cascade, nice mix of styles here.

Pours a fairly dark amber color, clear, with a one inch head, and lots of lacing down the glass.

Smells like pine, some toasted bready malt. Slightly floral aroma as well.

This one goes down pretty easily. Medium bitterness, slightly fruity English type hops, some pine bitterness, and a good smattering of caramel malt. Very balanced, and pretty tasty. Not a knockout IPA by any means, but this is the best option on at this bar generally, and it works pretty well for me most of the time.

Medium bodied, high carbonation, very drinkable. Crisp mouthfeel.

This one works for me. Would I ravenously seek it out? No. Am I happy when I drink it? Yes.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass, this ale is a hazy orange-amber color, with a small white head that dissipates quickly, leaving scant lacing on the glass. The smell is faint and has hints of caramel. The taste has a resiny funky hop note that lingers through the middle and the finish, as well as the caramel flavor noted in the smell. This is not the most intensely hoppy beer around, but it has a nice hoppy flavor balanced by the caramel malt presence. The mouthfeel is incredibly smooth and rich. I've not had a beer hopped by both Fuggles and Cascade Hops before. The label on the bottle calls this a West Coast IPA but the smoothness and subtlety of flavors is more characteristic of an English IPA. Whatever style it is, I like it!
