Got this in a "mystery" six pack and was surprised to find that only 4 people reviewed and it's a Helles Bock. Hope it's good even though its a spring release...

A - Pours a dark amber hue with no head or lace. Age of the beer is showing...

S - Mild caramel malt and very little hops show light. The smell is faint at best.

T - Ow my. Tastes of mild caramel followed by a bit of warming alcohol and then faint grass hops in the end makes it have a bitter finish.

M - Medium bodied and pretty OK for a beer.

D - If I didn't know from the label I would think it was more of a sweet dopple bock than a Helles. I really enjoyed this and may have liked it better fresh. Still it made a nice addition to a mystery mix.

Golden color, high carbonation.

Not too bitter, nice flavoring considering the alcohol content. Not much body at all.

I don't taste the sugar that others tasted. It is a pretty good bock beer.

I think it is a nice spring/summer brew if you want to have a couple beers out in the sun.

Pours a golden, amber hue. Aroma has hints of butter & caramel, indicating the malt is out front, as should be the case w/a bock. Malts dominate the palate; it's sweet w/out being cloying. Mouthfeel is silky & creamy; spot on for a bock. Grainy, grassy aftertaste w/a slight hint of hops provides some balance; 7% ABV becomes more apparent as it warms. Overall, a solid bock; comparable to some of the better "helles bock"s I've tasted & a worthy spring effort by Mendocino.

The previous review is pretty much spot on... Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Spaten Mug. Pours from the bottle a nice golden amber color, light to no white head formation. Aromas of nuts and caramel. Flavors of sweet malt and a touch of sugar. Definitely a sweet flavored beer. No lacing at all throughout. Overall this was not a bad beer from Mendocino, however, I would have preferred it to be a have a little less sweet note that was countered with some bitter flavoring.

Thanks Ratman. Pours from the bottle a nice golden amber color, with a good covering of white foam. Aromas of nutty caramel and earthy hops. Flavors of sweet malt and caramel, with a bit of sugar and hops. A decent effort, drinkable and not much more.
