I come here very often when I am in Dallas. They have about 15? Taps I believe.. (go upstairs for the taps, downstairs is limited. You can order anything food wise upstairs as well) Most of their taps are rotational and have new brews every time I visit which is about every 4 months.
The service is outstanding I've never had an issue here. And the food is pretty good as well (Try their chicken avocado sliders).

popped in on a trip to Dallas.
very crowded even on a Monday night but probably due to a large conference in town. the selection was respectable, but nothing to write home about. Chimay, local brews, German lagers, etc. all the beers were overpriced, but seems to be the theme in the uptown neighborhood.
waited at a table but eventually determined we'd have to go to the bar. ordered an old peculiar and didn't get a glass. after spending 5 minutes trying to get the bartenders attention for one just gave up.
don't really see any reason to return with ginger man and common table so close by.

I stopped in while in Dallas on business.
The English pub style atmosphere is warm and comfortable. It's a fairly small, square space but it's got a lot of charm with its dark woods, monk reliefs and beer paraphernalia. There's a small bar with a larger space of tables. The area in front looks fun but it was cold the night we were there. It's got a dart board and a couple of TVs for entertainment.
The tap list is limited but pretty decent. It has most of the usuals you'd find in an English or Irish pub such as Guinness, Stella, Smithwicks, etc. but it also has a few American beers. I went with a Sierra Nevada Celebration and it was very fresh.
The Blackfriar, along with the Idle Rich and Ginger Man, make for a decent pub crawl.

Hoppin' joint. Nice bar with good ambiance. It's adequately dark, with nice dark wood and lots of wear and use.
Colorful tenders with personality - that's good.
Small selection of glassware, better than most places. That's nice.
Just a handfull of taps - they had Monk's Cafe - and a nice small hoard of bottles.
Prices are okay. Monk's was ~$7.00, but my Smithwick's made up for it.
It's kind of full of yuppies though, or at least was when I was there. That's too be expected from the area I suppose. Also parking is problematic, I gave up after a few block circles and paid the $5 valet.
Food looked and smelled good.
Overall: not a bad joint, I'd go back if I could find somewhere to park. Otherwise there are other good establishments nearby.

Went here on the recommendation of a waitress from the Ginger Man. It's right down the street, probably not even a block. The wife and I were looking for somewhere to get a good beer and a good bite to eat before heading out to a concert, and The Black Friar provided what we sought. This place has valet parking, so be prepared to spend a fiver plus tip to park. There's a big patio out front which was quite full of folks, and it might be safe to say this place caters to a more affluent crowd. The inside, where we sat, was empty at first, but filled up quickly. The Black Friar has a good selection of beeers (Moinette, Orval, Maredsous 10, Westmalle Dubbel etc.) and a nice food menu that should suit any taste. I had a Duvel and a very tasty Maple-Lemon grilled chicken sandwich. My wife had a Sangria and the same sandwich. The sandwiches were exceptional, but didn't weigh us down, which was exactly what we were looking for.
If you're looking for a tasty meal, plus a good, but maybe not great, selection of beers to go along with it, this might be the place your looking for, but your probably not going to spend a night of drinking here, as some of the prices are a bit steep as well.
