I just got into home brewing in March of this year. I went to here first for some tips and other things that I didnt learn on my own research. The guys who work here know their stuff, and are highly knowledgeable. Did my first batch using mr beer that I had and got some supplies for carbing that first batch.

I then immediately went to full scale and designing my own recipes. This place has everything you would need with all possible ingredients available as well(a few hop varieties have been unavailable lately, but it has been the same for any other home brew website). Haven't tried out their shipping because I live close, but the prices on the site and in store are the same. I have heard good things about the shipping being very quick as well.

Very good prices that are pretty much on point with any other supplier I have seen. Huge selection of supplies in store and pretty much always in stock when you may need them. All the liquid yeasts are as fresh as can be and I have never had a problem with hop freshness either. Top notch. I had purchased a starter fermenter kit from them and included anything you may need except bottles and ingredients. Was priced nicely as well. I havent tried out any of their pre made beer kits yet, but I am interested. They have a lot of styles to choose from including Imperial styles.

Overall just a great store with a lot of knowledgeable staff, and the highest quality ingredients on site(and by mail as well from what I have heard). Fantastic Home brew supply, this will be my main home brew supply stop for as long as I live close.

I have been using this homebrew shop for over 10 years. It is a 50 minute drive so I am not exactly a regular. They have a full line of homebrew supplies as well as bottling and kegging supplies. In addition, they carry many obscure and hard to find grains and a full selection of extracts. I have never been disappointed when going there to fill a recipe bill.

The store personel are knowledgeable and eager to help on any homebrew question.

They have a good website and ship UPS. If you call in the morning, they will usually ship the same day. I have often gotten my order overnight by regular UPS due to my proximity to the store.

They also carry a full line of wine making supplies and have a wine making and tasting room in the front section of the shop.

I highly recommend this place.

I recently needed a few ingredients for a group brewday, but didn't really have the extra time to shop at my local homebrew shop. I decided to check Grape and Granary since a friend Jeremiah -froggyfrog here on beeradvocate.com had used them and I knew they were relatively close by for quicker shipping compared to northern brewer, austin homebrew or midwest.

I really decided to use them over the local homebrew shop since they advertised the new limited edition wyeast strains on the site and was interested in trying the Belgian Schelde for a Belgian ale we are brewing. I found the site easy to navigate and quick to set up an account. I was sent a UPS email telling me the items were scheduled for delivery the same day. I later got an email from The Grape and Granary letting me know they would be shipped. I received the box in two days and everything I ordered was packed very well. I found the selection to be better than average and the quality of service is top notch.

I consider the grape and granary to be a a valuable resource when I can't get to my local or they don't have the items in stock since 2 or 3 days is pretty darn fast for product to reach me. I will no doubt use them again in the future.

This is a great little establishment. The locaton is not the greatest and doesn't allow for the great potential that this place could have.

When I first enterd there were several people sampling and chit-chatting over multiple glasses of wine. The ladies are extremly nice and helpful.

This would be a great place to have a small gathering with friends or family. The prices are not too bad, but no bargin. I think that they are perfect for the quality that you get.

I suggest you stop in and try your own wine.

I can't believe it has taken me so long to review this place. Although I live in CT, G&G is my homebrew store. It is very rare that I will order from anyone else and then only if I need something G&G doesn't carry and I can't wait for a special order. The service is outstanding, the ingredients are always very, very fresh, and the prices are reasonable.

Over the years, I've probably placed 40 orders with G&G. On the rare occasions when something is out of stock and they can't fill the order the same day, someone from the shop will call to discuss possible substitutions or splitting up the order. That someone is always knowledgeable. They've only once made one small error on an order and immediately fixed it without complaint. They handle my (more frequent) screw-ups with grace.

Besides the service, what matters in a homebrew store is the freshness of the ingredients. Everything from G&G is absolutely fresh. Yeast is usually less than 2 weeks old when I get it. Hop aroma makes your knees weak when you open the bag. I've never, ever found a weevil or any sort of bug in my grain. It is all well-packaged in clean bags with clear labels.

G&G isn't as big as, say, morebeer.com, so they can't carry quite as much stuff. So once or twice a year I have to ask for a special order or pick up something elsewhere. That's fine. I like the "mom and pop" feel of the place and it might lose that if it got too big. And even without the huge volumes of the big places, they still manage to keep their prices pretty low.

I've had good experiences with other stores and don't want to knock them. But G&G will remain my primary store because they treat me so well.

Well, I had been wanting to plunge into the world of homebrewing for awhile now and instead of ordering online I went right to the source. I walked into this establishment and heard italian music right away. There is a hallway that if you go right, is the wine purchasing and making supplies. Straight forward brings you to The beer making supplies. I said hi to the guy at the desk and went on to look through the store. It looked like they had everything well covered for homebrewing. I was in a rush so I explained that I was looking for the Deluxe Two Stage glass starter kit and that I wanted to get everything at once because I live like 45 minutes away from the closest homebrew shop in Lancaster, PA. So he explained everything I needed and I declined some of the stuff because I already have it so he made the return from the overall kit price which was fantastic. I added some fermometers, a spoon, and a 29mm bell housing for my champagne bottles. He was very nice and spoke very fast, luckily I understood most of what he was saying. The beer kit selection was fantastic. I couldn't imagine being able to choose from more equipment and ingredients. The value was great as well. This kit was only $125, where other homebrew suppliers would have charged $150, and with a lesser capper. I wish this place was closer to my house. A great experience. Oh, and btw, the guy said I could even call him if I had any setup or general questions when I begin brewing. How's that for customer service? Awesome.

I ordered all my brew-buckets and all my starting accessories from The Grape & Granary website. It is extremely easy to navigate and the best feature was when you add something to the cart and backspace on the browser it stays in the cart. I was adding items from a list (thanks froggyfrog) and I loaded up my cart and checked out in no time at all. The shipping options very to suit what ever you need but even the cheap ground arrived pretty quickly. Quality ? well everything seems to be working. My yeast was live and my spigot held so ... good.

Hope this is helpful.
Cheers!

This store is located in an industrial section of outer Akron, not really out of the way, and not too hard to find. But if you don't want to make the trip, they make it easy to order online, over the phone, or through the catalouge and offer a 5% discount if you spend more than $125. Most of the products are competitively priced.

If you can make it out to the shop, they offer classes on homebrewing and wine-making. In addition, the front half of the building is a winery, so you can sample some of the styles they offer to brew on premise or choose a vintner's kit similiar to the wine you are drinking.

A phenomenal variety of literature and brewing materials including rare imported malts are always in stock. Just about everything you could possibly need for your home brewery is here, from start-up kits to all grain equipment. The store offers it's own brand of extract and all-grain beer kits, as well as popular kits like Brewer's Best and pre-hopped malt extract from six malting companies. Both White Labs and WYeast products are available. Kegging supplies and enough specialty equipment to satisfy both the novice or professional brewer. They even have what you need to make you own cider, mead, liqueurs, soft drinks, cheese, vinegar and distilled spirits,-uh...I mean essential oils.

The staff is very knowledgable, ask for John. If you ask a complex question, you get a complex answer explaining all the possible consequnces. Anyone is likey to supply you will free literature and product phamplets to help you make your desicion. They will invite you to call them with any problems/questions you have about the products you buy.

I really can't say enough about this place, you'll just have to check it out for yourself. Stop in to see where I blow my paycheck every week.

The Grape and Granary is a great establishment. This is the first Homebrew store that I ever visited and I will continue to visit it. They have a nice selection of beer kits, although as I am a fan of Brewer's Best I would rather shop at Leener's on Olde Eight. Even though Leener's has a much wider selection of my favorite homebrew kits The Grape and Granary has a much wider selection overall. In addition to beer brewing they also carry supplies to make your own wine. Not only does the Grape and Granary sell beer kits but they have a wide array of beer ingredients. Not only does the Grape and Granary seem to have a wide array of ingredients when compared to Leener's ( I've been in both stores and noticed all the ingredients when in the Grape and Granary and didn't even see them in Leener's, then again I wasn't really looking) but the prices there are cheaper as well. Overall its a great store and I definitely recommend it. Obviousl,y I am torn between two stores that are about the same quality.

This is a first class establishment. It is also very easy to get the Mrs. to go with me due to the fact that the front of the joint is a winery. Granted it's all syrups and juices, still it's cool.
When walking in make sure to make your way to the left and all the way to the back. This places is loaded with stuff, bins of every kind of malt you can think of. Also cans of malt extract line the whole back wall. Their hops selection is in a Gas station type cooler and is set up well, but the selection is kind of lagging. As for the devices they have a wide selection of stuff from thermometers, to every size carboy bungs.
The sevice is kind of lacking as well. The guy I talked to didn't really know what I was talking about and couldn't find anybody who brewed or knew the answer.
So all in all, I'd say it's a nice clean establishment, with a wide selection. Just make sure if you have a question to find out the answer in a forum first.

I'm new to homebrewing, and this is the only homebrew shop that I've purchased. With that taken into consideration, the selection here is excellent. I've browsed several other homebrew suppliers online and this seems to have a selection of equipment and ingredients that is as good as any. Of particular interest is their ready to brew kits (both extract and all-grain) that include detailed instructions and are available in nearly every major style. The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgable. Highly recommended.

EDIT: I've recently taken their Beginner/Intermediate and All-Grain brewing classes and was quite impressed. The pace of the classes went quite quickly, so it is advised that anyone going to one should have a basic knowledge of brewing procedures first. Even so, the information was thorough and complete, and detailed literature of the proceedings are provided. Numerous beers were offered at each for tasting. I would highly recommend the classes for anyone interested in homebrewing.

I've ordered online several times from this outfit, but I had my first visit recently.

Half dedicated to wine, the other to beer. I headed for the beer and my wife went to the wine.

The selection was pretty extensive, although the store area is limited and much of the inventory is in a back room. The staff was easy enough to talk to, and seemed to know brewing very well. The had a nice selection of hops and grains, extracts and kits they put together themselves.

And they stayed open after the posted closing time to make sure the customers inside were attended to. Good show.

I like it. Go there.

My staple supply house for the past 7 years. I have never walked in and been disapointed with product selection or availability. The service is exceptional. I am fortunate enough to live in the area, so I can tap their knowledge first hand. With the addition of the wine on premise and a 'tasting room', they are a great place to go. For the homebrewer or winemaker, they are exceptional. I have tried several of their recipes, and have had great results. If you have any problems with your homebrew, or need any advice, these guys will have the answer.
