I guess first impressions are everything on both sides of the coin. As the first and I can say most likely the last visit to an average place with average to fair beer. I say this because when I go out in summer we dress VERY beach casual, so I guess going into to some places we "MIGHT" be under-dressed. Even so my money is the same.

anyway the review:

Its in an artist upper crusty wedge of Atlanta that quite frankly is very run down. Its an 2 or 3 street island in the ghetto to be frank. Not really but its on the edge of Ga Tech and the poor folks, to be more accurate. parking is ok. of course this was 2pm so its was so early my review will not reflect when most folks hit bars, we hit them before 5pm period.

So we walk in and the bartender is the greeter, we sit at the bar and this person is very indifferent to us, and we are the only ones at the frigging bar!!!
Its a brew pub you think she would tell us about the beers, or something, typical Yankee moved to the south bartenders I HATE!
So I ask what they have and she POINTS to the list on a tiny board in various color caulk. Not easy to read for us older folks. anyway.

ok we get the beer ordered and we get it fast, but I mean we the only ones there, and bartender is not very willing to even chat with us for a few minutes, I guess see figured we have 1 and done. I guess I should assume it was early but they been open since 11am, so that is a poor excuse. then the guy/owner/manager from hop city pops in with a beer and serves this lady the beer and leaves, after chatting with the bartender, I guess they have some kind of deal.

So average brew pub selection, nothing worth visiting for really, was not offered a sample plate. The Imperial porter was decent, the hefe the wife had was below decent. i had a cask pale ale that was really a cask IPA, too bitter for me. We did not try the food.

The place has a large bar with the typical kill your ass bar seats.
Large dinning room with bar on roof I assume for the smokers.
all in all if you new and they don't know you you get treated indifferent. Bathrooms were clean.

All in all If I had meet some one else to talk to and they were a regular it might have been a nice evening as it was, and since the beer was NOT worth paying 5 to 7 bucks for IMHO we left after 2. Still I left a larger than average tip to let the girl know she missed out. maybe I should have not left her a tip and I should known by know that Atlanta prices are just going to be higher than Jacksonville. anyway we might go back. maybe next time it will be better.

There is a weekly cask ale, but no one else seems very interested in it.
The food is great.
Both times I have visited, I didn't like my beer very much.

The first time I came here was for the weekly cask ale. I came with two friends to try a cascade and mosaic dry hopped IPA and we were hyped up the idea of this beer, but we all thought the beer was not good. Oh well. I later came back here for Friday lunch with my work, and every one really liked their food. However, this time I still didn't like the beer. I got a beer called something along the lines of "How come 47 other states can do growlers but we can't IPA". I still didn't like the beer, I think it was because of the yeast. It was some strain that was not very flocculant at all, and I think it masked the hop flavors too much.

Went here for dinner and a beer during a business trip to Atlanta and was really impressed. The restaurant is spacious and clean with a very relaxed vibe. My waiter was really cool and the food and the food and beer hit the spot. I had the Turkey Butger and Mr. Pattinson's Scottish IPA. As a huge plus, this brewery is next store to the Hop City Beer shop!

Great place but limited selection of beer. the maibock was outstanding, but they had nothing darker than that. No stout or porter??

Stopped in here after a trip to Hop City while in town. Pretty empty place when I was there, but a nice set-up and I'm told they brew the beer in house downstairs. A decent selection of taps, a couple house Belgian brews on cask, and a large selection of barrel aged beers in bottles for on-premises consumption only. Bartender was friendly and helpful when I asked about the beers. Seems like it's worth a stop in if you're in the area. Did not eat so nothing to say about the food here.

Being located right next door to Hopcity makes this the place I stop to eat after shopping. Free parking in the lot behind the buildings is a definite plus. The beers are good. I had a cask IPA last time I was there that was above average in my opinion.

This place left me with mixed feelings after I paid a visit with some locals taking me around the craft beer heaven that is Atlanta. We had visited the excellent craft shop next door and came in to try some of the brews they offer here.

The first thing I noticed is that the server really didn't seem to have a command of the beers he was serving. That's not what you'd expect from a GOOD brewery or brewpub; employees should know and love the product they're selling.

Second, the waiter didn't offer or encourage tasting a few beers to find that special one. To me, this is the beauty of the new craft movement. There's an education component and employees should be prepared to do everything possible to leave the customer loving the beer and wanting to come back.

Anyways, I had the Storm Trooper Imperial Stout and enjoyed it. It was a good representation of the style, with a big booze presence masked my delicious malt profiles giving off chocolate, coffee, caramel, bread and other notes. I also tried a friend's Berliner weisse beer and wasn't quite as impressed. There wasn't enough tartness to make the beer exciting.

I also noticed a number of different barrel-aged beers for sale in bottles and was tempted to pull the trigger, but at $20+ per bottle, I wasn't willing to pull the trigger on a complete unknown.

I'd say this place is worth a visit if in the area, but with places like Porter Beer Bar, Wrecking Bar and Brick Store Pub in town, this place can easily become an afterthought.

Oh, and the spent grain bread and calamari weren't much to write home about in the food department.

Stopped in because shopping next door at Hop City Beer made me hungry, and wanted to do something nice for Frau, who waited patiently outside in car.

First impression was that it was very open and had a good early afternoon Saturday crowd. Next best realized that they did a Saturday Brunch!!! Nice hostess.

Brunch menu was very good, saw people next to us get a skillet (Fried eggs over potatoes) and settled on brunch versus a burger. Everything we saw come out of kitchen was plated great and looked good.

I had the Shrimp and grit cakes w homemade chorizo, topped with fried eggs, wife had corned beef hash. Portion size was a little on the light side, but my wife thought it was ok. Flavors were fantastic, they do their own corned beef. I am not a big corned beef fan, but I would love to try their Rueben, very nice corn on their meat. Not salty.
Chorizo had good flavor, but was not as over the top good as the corned beef. It seemed to need more Paprika, the flavor was their, color was off. Also seemed to have a little too much moisture in my dish, which fought with the chorizo flavoring. Shrimp were fresh, and I love the spanish flavors.

Had a Saisson and Belgian white on tap. Saisson was very good, ale was above average, but I wish I went 2-2 on the Saisson. $40 was a little steep, bar server friendly, a little slow, but perfect for brunch. We love the idea of a brunch place that does Saturday as well as Sunday brunch. I will be back, if for nothing else than to sit at bar, and help them keep their taps running. Give this place a look.
