I'm a big fan of the Premier League so a place that shows English footy is going to be high on my list of places to go. Anna Liffey's has a great traditional pub feel to it and the service is outstanding. The barkeeper knew my name by the time I left on my first visit.

The full Irish breakfast is a feast. The amount of food makes up for the price, which is a bit high to me for breakfast. I also tried the shepherd's pie which was ok, though nothing to write home about. I have no idea why they put cheese on it.

The pull an amazing pint of Guinness. The beer selection is a bit light and there are too many macros for an actual beer bar. Having said that, there are some decent selections on tap, and I don't have to buy any of the crap. When I'm there I've been sticking to the Guinness. Creamy, stout goodness.

I enjoy the atmosphere a lot and appreciate that they open really early for the football (soccer for the uninitiated). I'm well on my way to becoming a regular patron.

I'm only writing because the reviews so far are too generous. This bar has few things going for it. Yes, its dark and dingy. The tables are made of quirky old sewing machines and such. The have guinness. Whooptie doo. The rest of the beer selection is barely adequate. Lots of typical bush corp. buyout beers. The food is acceptable. I just don't see any reason to go here unless you are stuck on campus and need to watch a soccer game or need some cruddy draft beer. If you want a real beer just walk a few blocks down the to Cask Republic.

One the "authentic" Irish Bars in New Haven this place is interesting, it doesn't look as big when you walk up to it, but it has 2 floors and a patio which makes for a nice amount of room. The bar upstairs is OK, the one downstairs is about the same. The bar staff is actually quite helpful in finding what you want, not a whole lot of selection on tap - BMC with Guinness, Harp, Heineken, with some Sam Adams and a Sierra Nevada. Not much for bottle selection either. The prices were also so-so and pretty comparable to everywhere else downtown. However, the bar staff was knowledgable enough about the stuff they poured and could help when I was looking for something. Service was pretty good as well, it was crowded but not overly crowded so I would expect a wait time but there really wasn't much of one. I did not grab any food, but next time I might try some. Interesting thing about this place is the live music in the basement. It's small but it's got a good sound. A semi-loud band will sound really loud down here, so you have to watch the volume, but it is a decent bar nonetheless.

When you go here it's like walking into an Irish pub without having to take the long flight. The main bar is located downstairs. Not much of a selection for beer. But they pour the best guinness in the area, hands down. If your a soccer or rugby fan, this is the bar for u. they always have some sort of soccer or rugby game on and if u request for them to put a particular game on they'll be more than happy to play it for u. The food is traditional irish fair as well as some american stuff, great steak and cheese wrap and steak fries. very reasonably priced. They also go all out for New haven's st. patt's day parade. If ur in the mood for a pub, this is the place for you, through and through.

Entering through the front entrance you are generally guided directly downstairs to a sizeable cellar bar which proves to be the heart of this Irish Pub set in the heart of New Haven, apparently the oldest pub in the city (?). An upstairs bar is also available for the more crowded times and a small outdoor area exists in back. The main bar offers a great pub atmosphere with a few televisions that are focused on British sports as confirmed by all the wall decorations. I didn't eat here but the menu looks decent and varied. The beer list was acceptable enough but not really worthy of true "beer bar" status with Guinness, Stella, Bud, Newcastle, Blue Moon, Sam Adams Seasonal, Harp, Bass, Smithwicks, Bud Light, and Magner's Cider on tap. The Magners was reasonably fresh and tasty. In cans/bottles they do have Sierra Nevada Pale and Sea Hag IPA to improve the choices! All other bottled/canned brews are miserably lacking though the old PBR 16 ounce stands proudly. Nice traditional Irish music is piped throughout. Nice place that I hope to revisit but not my idea of a beer bar unfortunately. Still, there are enough goodies to enjoy the atmosphere none-the-less. As a regular old bar/pub I would probably rate this a solid B+ to A, but as a beer bar it's not particularly worthy.
