This place has always brought me in because it is close to where I live, but, it has also consistently dissappointed me by not having the ingredients or supplies that I needed. They have been very helpful at the beginning of your experience by asking you if you need help, but if you ask them about anything slightly advanced, or if you need a specific specialty grain, then they will just shrug at you and tell you, "I've never heard of that before....". Geeze. I think that this place would be fine for someone looking to brew their first batch of beer, but when you walk into a homebrew store and sense that the owners/workers know a lot less about brewing than you do, then it's just disappointing. On multiple occassions, after having a disappointing experience here, I've had to travel an hour or so to another store, just so I could get the supplies that I originally needed. This store really needs to change. If you aren't interested in brewing and don't have experience, you shouldn't work in a homebrew store. I could keep writing, but i feel I've said enough.

I am always looking to support local shops but my experience at the Wine and Beer Emporium has been uneven at best. The prices are very high compared to internet and other local brick and mortar shops I have visited. They offer liquid yeast past expiration (I found samples 9 mo past expiry - you need to check the expiration date) and are happy to take full price for it (which is already on the high end). I have requested notification on when out of stock items arrive. They are either way off on the delivery date or don't bother calling when the item arrives. The selection is limited, overpriced and given the mediocre customer support (the weekday shopkeeper is often preoccupied with personal business and not very knowledgeable or helpful) I will find another Homebrew shop to patronize in the future.

Came in here recently a little before the Christmas holiday. Was looking for a false bottom or some ingredients for a new homebrew. Like a previous review, the lady working was on the phone for a very good bit of time while I was looking around the store. Selection was a below average, mostly just extract beer kits and a section of wine supplies that likely easily mirrored the beer supply section. Looking to get into all grain, I couldn't find anything that caught my eye. Before leaving, I explained to the woman behind the counter how I had just tried making a half gallon of cider. She offered some good advice and was more than willing to help me find the appropriate sized glass container & stopper to fit my cider secondary needs. I think if they had more ingredients for beer, I'd think about coming back. Otherwise, I'll stick with my local shop or will keep looking online for more selection.

Stopped in for first time last week. Not a place for the first time home brewer. Very expensive if you are setting up to brew for the first time. Woman in store not very helpful busy talking on phone. Very limited space and products. Did have some brew kits there and some buckets. Seem to be gear to more to wine making. Although Chadds Ford area is known more for wine making. Would only go back if in a pinch for something, but usually have everything lined up before I brew. Felt like I had to buy something, so I bought the latest edition of Home Brew magazine, I knew what that was going to cost me.

This is a nice shop, but I usually just go there when I need one or two items. The prices are really jacked up and I cringe when I have to buy anything more than a grain bag. The couple that runs the shop are nice, the husband did have good advice for me when I ran into some non-carbonating beer. I always like to support local shops, but I will order ingredients online before buying them here because of the huge markup and the PA tax. Combined, that usually makes the order about 25% higher than buying at the Newark homebrew shop and even higher than that compared to ordering online.

I visited this homebrew shop recently and I agree completely with everything the previous reviewer said. The selection is OK but not great, and the prices are a bit higher than other places I've visited. This place would be acceptable if you needed to pick something up in a hurry and were close by, but I would not drice any distance just to shop there. (I went there while my wife shopped in some other stores in the shopping village it is located in.) The owner was helpful when I asked him some questions about different yeasts.

This was the first homebrew shop I visited. I bought most items to brew my first beer here (not all items were in stock and I had to go elsewhere). I have since realized that the prices in this establishment are rather high (usually about 15-20% higher than other stores in the area). The proprietor has his days where he can be helpful, and days when he seems like he does not want to be bothered.

The store is rather small, one half devoted to brewing and the other half devoted to wine making. Has lots of wine kits and a limited selection of beer kits.

Selection of hops is good; although they are often out of order (find hallertau hops under Cascade instead of Hallertau, etc), but if you dig around you can usually find it. Yeast selection leaves something to be desired.

Equipment here is very pricey, especially bottles.
