Pours an absolutely ideal shade of gold. A bubbly, fluffy head is perched upon the top, thanks to the strong, continuous carbonation. No visible sediment. Very picturesque. The aroma is practically god-like. A complex and intriguing marriage of bitter and sweet. Desirable yeast aroma is present along with caramel, both sweet and sour apples, pear, banana, lemongrass and spices. Taste - velvety and bready Belgian yeast and malt. Tart and tropical fruits, lemony hints. Spicy phenolic characteristics as well as a definite bitter hop presence. Honey, although not nearly as sweet as the aroma may have suggested. This beer really coats the mouth well and the finish is somewhat dry. Some Belgians are borderline cloyingly sweet with no other complexities - not so at all with this masterpiece. One of my absolute favorite beers. I cannot imagine how this could get any better!

A: A cloudy pale orange pour with tons of particulate floating around. Stupidly huge fluffy white head on top. Takes forever to fade, never really goes away. Leaves only dots of lacing on the glass however.

S: Wow, super strong aroma, almost stinging the nostrils. I get lots of cloves and yeasty bread. Some nice lemons, pear, banana and perhaps some grass. Spicy too - mostly black pepper I'd say. Very refreshing.

T: Loads of cloves and typical belgian yeast. Bready. Lots of spice, again very peppery. Fruits are there but much more subdued than in the nose. Lemons and pears mainly.

M: Medium bodied, definitely doesn't feel like a 10%er. Very drying on the back end. Tons of carbonation helps it feel lighter than it is I think.

O: Certainly a very big and loud tripel. Whew. Aroma and taste are very strong. Carbonation is high to boot. Lots of pepper (almost overly so) and belgian yeast in this one for sure. Excellent example of the style.

This was the last bottle that we had sitting in one of the coolers at work. I decided to give it a go and poured it in to my Duvel glass. Jul2010 stamped on the bottle cap.

Dark cloudy gold color. The head was big and bone white. Lots of brown floaties in the beer, leading me to think that we had this bottle in the cooler for quite some time. Active bubble rose from the bottom of the glass, pushing some of the floaties in to the head, making it look like some one ashed their cigarette in my beer. Lots of sticky lacing lined the glass.

Some sweet malt, clove, banana, and yeast. A little bit of alcohol. The taste is actually more bitter than the nose. Kind of spicy and there is a nice taste of alcohol. The sweetness borders on a nutty taste. Very enjoyable taste.

Incredibly smooth triple. Very nice flavor. All of the sediment in the bottle and glass was not very appealing, so I'll need to track down a fresh bottle and give it another shot. Overall, an incredibly nice beer.

Date on cap: Jul2011

Poured from an 11.2 oz bottle into an oversized wine glass (perhaps tulip would've been better)- poured a hazy golden color with a very large one finger plus head that grew two about two fingers. Exceptional retention and some very nice splashes of lacing.

Smells of golden malt, belgian yeast, and candi sugar. Plain, simple, and delicious. More of the latter two.

Tastes like ambrosia would- lots of candi sugar mixed with the golden malt, moderated by an earthy Belgian yeast and VERY slight hop finish.

Mouthfeel is good, but not as carbonated as I'm used to from De Dolle. Medium body with light carbonation (hence why I thought I should've used a tulip). This is another excellent offering from De Dolle and one of the best tripels I've had.

Update: Paired with Chimay cheese and noticed a little sweet booze towards the end of the taste. Otherwise very well concealed for 10 percent.

11.2 ounce bottle, poured into a Unibroue tulip.

Appearance is a dark golden tone, with a big, frothy head. Its` nose has candy, booze, citrus and belgian yeast. Upon sipping this serious tripel and I taste bread, vanilla, caramel and bit of a sour aspect. Mouthfeel is full bodied, a nice sharp, sweet finish. A very nice tripel, one of my favorites out there.

This was bottled in sept 2011, marked by the cap

A- A thick brown orange hue. Fingers don't show on the reverse of the glass, indicating a strong appearance.

S- Not the strong suit of this beer, tangerine, malty, bitter, alcohol notes all come into play.

T- Davine! Matches the upfront indications of the smell, but with a hardy afterglow that follows through with the flavor. Strong citrous bitterness that is completely original to this beer.

MF- Strong carbonation upfront, that linger as it slopes down the throat, but strong bite lasts through the aftertaste on the tongue.

Overall this is a fantastic beer. I would drink many more if I weren't already drunk and had any extras. For a 10% beer I am completely sold. I was sceptically to spend $7 on this one, but I understand the price tag given the robust flavor and extremely satiating flavors...
