Brewed 2009
Bottled Feb2010
In a snifter the beer was a ruby red color with a medium-sized tan head.
Sweet fruit aroma, some spice. Alcohol noticeable, but not overwhelming. The aromas worked well with each other.
Very, very nice taste. Tart cherry up front, brown sugar, and a little late alcohol burn. Again, you feel the alcohol, but it complimented the other tastes.
Sharp, almost medicinal. Slight alcohol burn.
I had this after dinner, and thought it was a near perfect ending to a great meal. The alcohol, while definitely present, combined nicely. I would not have thought it to be 13% ABV without reading the label.

From tasting notes.
Had at 1, 3 and 4 years.
A: Brilliant reddish chestnut with a linen white 3” finely bubbled moussey persistent foam collar that leaves whore stocking lace.
S: malt, fruit, citrus, raisins in the nose.
T: Big sweet flavors balanced by an apple cidery tartness, fruit, some biscuit, gentle herbal hops, and drying out a little bit on the finish. The sweetness diminishes as the beer ages and more sherry like qualities emerge.
M: above average carbonation, full body, tart.
O: The beer’s enormous flavors hide a significant alcohol punch. Good to start and improves over time.

Poured from bottle into Duvel glass.

Medium brown color; some head; opaque.

Smell is much milder than expected. Dark fruit, brown sugar.

And actually, even the taste is milder and more subtle than I remember. There is a kind of "old cellar" / vintage oak undertone. A sweet stonefruitiness is probably the main flavor, though. Combined with the acidity, there's very much a plum flavor.

The high sourness almost gets hidden by the sugar flavor (I guess there's still plenty of residual sugar; lips feel sticky after taking a sip).

Looking forward to opening my other bottles, trying them out at slightly higher temperatures, etc. I remember this being quite an excellent beer on other occasions that I've tried this beer.

330 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Pours with a surprisingly large off white head. Thick collar. Wispy surface.

Smell - Malty and acidic. Acetic. Cherry and red wine aromas.

Taste - Caramel malt. Acetic sourness. Dry. Oaky. Lots of vanilla and no sweetness.

Mouthfeel - Boozy. Oaky. Dry. A huge sour. Still with full carbonation.

Overall - The slighest oxidation has set in. Otherwise this is just as good as it was when I first had it. It should be noted that this was my first sour. I was blown away then.
