Had this on tap at Lizardville in a tulip glass. Pours a pale yellow with a 2 finger sticky white head.

Has a funky, herbal aroma. Plenty of straw, floral and fruity notes.

Has a great spicy taste, with a tart start, peppery, slightly hoppy mddle, and a mildly bitter finish. With a somewhat yeasty backbone, this is a pleasant tasting brew with plenty going on.

Medium bodied, with a sharp taste mid-sip that gives this beer great presence.

I was completely unfamiliar with this bee when I ordered it, unsure of what I'd get. What I got, however, was a very pleasant surprise, one which I would definitely have again.

On tap at Pizzeria Paradiso in Georgetown, Washington DC. Served in a tulip.

Body is hazy golden with a moderate white head, leaves curtains of lacing.

Smells malty, belgian yeast funk, honey, citrus.

Tastes of light malt, funky belgian yeast, floral hops, citrus, and peppery dry finish.

Body is medium with crisp carbonation, refreshing mouthfeel.

Overall, this is a really good belgian strong golden ale. The ABV is slightly noticeable, but a good drinking ale in moderation.

Had on tap at Toronado - I never get over living 3 blocks from the best beer bar in the country!

Look is good, small head bit of lacing, good colour (i think - dark in here)

Smell is lots of sweet grapey, white wine character, reisling grapes and lots of flowers - lavender, jasmine and a bit of orange.

Taste is great - wonderful balance, fruity hoppy and yeasty with an equally floral combination - a symphony of flavor

feel is also very nice.

Overall this is an epic beer for the style from one of the top breweries on Earth - thanks De Dolle!

Poured all head, white, and very slow to recede, I almost thought it was permanent. Smells of dried fruit and malt. Taste is fairly rich like with a long malty finish. Quite nice. And though there's 10% alcohol it's pretty well hidden to me. The cheesey bunny on the label had me doubting this beer but it turned out to be really good.

appearance - this one was a gusher. i think i had it a bit too warm in the cellar and agitated it a bit too much getting it out. head stuck around. lacing is solid. hazy straw orange with some particles in it.

smell - belgian yeast. a little farmhousey. cloves banana. maybe something else. not my favorite

taste - much the same, a bit more bland. a bit of sugar.

mouthfeel - a bit cloying. nice carbonation. medium to thick body.

not impressed for the price and other ratings. ive had much better belgian strong pales.

On draft at Rustico:

Pours a light brown w/ a two finger head. Nice carbonation and good lacing. Nose is nice, sweet fruit, sour, floral, slight malt as well. Taste brings out the nose plus some honey and plum. This is a solid tasting beer. Mouthfeel is medium and aftertaste sticks around for a while. Really glad I got to try this beer- never seen it before. Check it out!

Had on tap at Pizzeria Paradiso Old Town.

A: Dark Orange hue with cascading bubbles running up the glass. Not much head or lacing, but I wasn't looking for that with this really.

S/T: Has a candy like malted aroma and taste, maybe more of a candied dark fruit. Very yeasty as you'd expect from a Belgian strong with notes of straw and ripe fruits, some licorice in the nose is clear and flutters in the taste. Dry white grape in the aroma and some alcohol complexity prevails throughout.

M: A little bubbly and not as thick as I hoped, it drank pretty clean surprisingly.

Overall this is pretty good, but it got old fast, the taste and aroma just tend to get cloying and unappetizing after a while.

11.6 fl oz brown bottle, served in a tulip.

Bottled 02/2010.

Light peach with golden highlights; noticeable floating sediment. Foamy, bright white head with tremendous retention. Spotted lacing with good strength.

Fresh citrus aromas: orange, lime, green apple over a moderately sweet Belgian candied sugar; a rather nice, clean sweetness. Hints of farmhouse must.

Moderate candied sweetness with bright citrus notes: lemon, orange, pear, and lime. Intense, bland-whiskey like alcohol presence that engulfs this strong pale's flavors. An intense burst of carbonation provides a dry quality in its wake, followed by an aftertaste of must and stiff malted wheat.

Medium in body; the intense carbonation and alcohol make for a bulky dryness at times.

Some really nice qualities here; however, the intense flavors could really use some time to mature and mellow.

A-Pours clear amber with over an inch of fluffy white head. Reduces gradually, leaving stringy, soapy lacing.

S-Grassy, slightly citric hops. melon, pale malt sweetness.

T/M-Earthy, slighty funky yeast delivered by vibrant, chewy carbonation. Grassy hops, come in mid-palate, cutting the mild malty sweetness and finishing the beer with a light burst of cracked black pepper.

O-This beer is a great example of what makes De Dolle so unique. Stands apart from almost every other Belgian Pale ale.

Slightly cloudy amber with piles of lumpy frothed egg whites head.
Wax, pencil shavings, and fresh herbs on the nose.
Honey drop candy malts with cedary hops bite. Orange rind end and peppery linger.
Medium, fizzy, plenty of burn.

Big hot candied pale ale. Interesting choice to use Goldings; makes a difference. Burn makes me think maybe shoulda let this age, though it is a seasonal.

Poured very carefully into a tulip. Giant head on this one that leaves a lot of sticky lacing. The body is nice and golden. There is only a slight bit of haze.

The aroma has nice sweet orange candy spice. This has a nice sweet malt aroma with a gentle spice kick from they yeast.

The taste has a nice balance of sweetness and bitterness, but as a Belgian pale ale, this is definitely on the sweet side. I get mostly yeast flavor in the finish, that adds to the bitterness as well.

Nice medium to heavy body but drinks pretty refreshingly considering the strength; perhaps due to the heavy carbonation.

This might be my favorite Belgian Strong Pale Ale; I highly recommend it!

Poured into a tulip. Pours a slightly hazy straw color with a you typical giant creamy De Dolle head; two thirds of the glass is full of head. A little much in my opinion but it otherwise looks good.

A bit of banana comes through in the aroma with spicy peppery hops. Nice earthy aroma to this with a solid citrus background. A little bit of citrus sweetness to the flavor wit spicy musty hops. I'd say this one even has a little bit of funk to it. It finishes with a nice grassy hop flavor and that same earthy character that I could detect in the aroma.

Nice light body here but as with most of De Dolle beers I feel like this one is a little bit overcarbonated. I'd love to see them tone it down. Overall though, a great offering. One of the better strong pales on the market. Probably my favorite.

another one i really liked and was thrilled to be able to get the chance to try. poured into a goblet.

nice light brown pour with a good amount of haze to it and a smallish head of about two inches which faded off into a thin film that clung to the sides of the glass.

aroma is nicely hopped and earthy at the same time. really well done i have to admit. herbal notes, flowery almost with light tugs of pine and grape seeds floating around inside. again very nicely done and quite complex. small dash of oak and caramel mid palate before a light hoppiness dries it out and leaves you hanging..

overall another outstanding beer from an outstanding brewer

Bottle at some pub in Antwerp on a pub crawl with some friends. From notes.

A - Poured a darkish colour of brown. Cloudy with a three finger fluffy beige head. Weak lacing but good retention with that fluffiness hanging out.

S - Lotsa yeast, sweet spice, and hop.

T - Earthy, spicy, yeasty, and a gentle hop is there. Spice/yeast combo is a little rough on the taste buds.

M - Strong carbonation and a medium body.

O/D - Not too shabby but not great. I drank it, didn't say 'wow' and was ready for something new.
