Terrific strong ale. A soft light clove and peppery banana backend goes along with a boozy, brash exterior. Estery yet not overwhelmed as I often find with Belgian ales. Had it on draft and it was quite a treat. Looks phenomenal - huge creamy head sitting above a golden ale. Fantastic.

Poured from fridge temp. Pours a golden yellow with good head. Retention was good. Nose is orange peel, caramel, and some bread. Taste is sweet upfront - citrus based. A tad bitter - resembling citrus peel - comes in after the initial sweetness. Getting some esters in the form of pear and banana. To be honest, not my favorite for this style. I bit mixed in the balance, and the complexity isn't overly welcoming. Definitely interesting and different. Mouthfeel is medium bodied.

I've reviewed this before, but haven't yet typed up my notes.

On-draught at the Bull & Bush:

Soft pear esters are prominent in the aroma.

Drinks sweet, bending towards syrupy. Soft in mouthfeel. Mellow fruit esters from the delicate Belgian yeast hide this brew's monstrous ABV. Pear is dominant. Pale malts lend this its bold backbone. Hopping is minimal in presence and floral in flavour, though I think some fruitiness is in there too blending in with the ale yeast esters.

I'm not convinced this is better for being higher in alcohol, but it's somehow fragile in flavour in spite of its ABV, and its softness cushions the booze.

A: Pours a golden orange color with a massive head that slowly fades down to a nice cap that leaves spotty lacing

S: Spicy yeast up front along with some earthiness and light fruity notes

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with the spicy yeast notes and slowly works its way into some fruitiness and light alcohol esters. Finishes with lingering spice and a touch of maltiness

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. On the softer side

O: A solid winter BSPA with a higher abv. Remains quite drinkable but definitely a sipper

2015 Vintage
A -Huge out of control carbonation.
S - Floral fruity aroma. When the head/carbonation was strong it had a champagne-like aroma.
T - Sweet fruit flavors with more richness than typical for a lighter golden Belgian.
M - Interesting with nice stickiness cut by the heavy carbonation.
O - I liked it a lot, but could do with less carbonation. I plan to age my other three for up to 20 years.

2015 vintage, as stamped on the cap.

Deep gold color, bordering on light amber, and hazy with small yeast particles floating around. A massive white head climbs above the rim of the glass with good retention.

The aroma is both strong and unique. A potent mix of apple cider, overripe banana, butterscotch, alcohol, and clove. It's more complex than I'm giving it credit for but it's thought to describe.

Fruity and spicy flavor with prominent alcohol. The beer has a warming feel to it yet it's not overly difficult to drink. In fact, it finishes slightly on the dry side.

I was really excited to find a bottle of this after having an excellent Arabier on draft a couple of months ago. However, it didn't meet my high expectations. The notes on this beer say it has increased from 8% to 12% ABV over time and I actually think it would be more successful as an 8% beer. The alcohol heat gets in the way a little too much for me. Not a bad beer though. Almost like a spiked spiced apple cider.

2016 batch, last barrel on tap at the brewery. Phenomenal winter beer.
