just so everyone knows who reads this....
This is the same triple as 3,892 Hads rated and The Bros reviewed.

I give Bosteels points for trying three grains (barley, wheat , oats) in in one ale. Like a multi-grain bread.
I also give them points for marketing that is above average (after all, that is how Americans come to like you... as is this case.)
Nonetheless, I poured this well-marketed ale into its overly-fluery huge tulip glass that came with a sampler pack a few years back. There is probably some combination of the beer and the glass, but it produces a huge head... beyond rocky as described by others.

But I subtract points because this tripel does not go as well with food as others in its style. Simply put, the grains are good, but the spices are too strong.

This is a widely regarded ale.
MJ's "Great Beers of Belgium" said "Karmeliet has great finesse and complexity" and continues with an extensive review. I agree.
MJ's 1999 "guide" gave it 3 of 4 stars and a similar, shorter rave review.
Karmaliet is listed on the "1001" and deserves to be there. Just don't have it with a non-spicy dinner.

330ml bottle poured into tulip. Massive cream-colored head sits atop hazy golden beer. Spotty lacing is left behind after settling. Aroma is yeasty, floral phenols, honey, alcohol, pepper, and grain. Taste is spicy alcohol, herbal, grain, and some fruity flavors that are between tropical and stone. Medium-full body, beautifully creamy texture, prickly carbonation, warming, drying finish from husks and alcohol.

This is the perfect, smooth beer. Almost TOO drinkable. It goes well with any situation, season or event. However, best if drunk someplace where you will be able to relax and get happy. Goes down so easily that you may not realize how much you drink and it IS 8.4 % ABV. :-)
