Classic tripel style, banana & clove with some alcohol phenol underneath thanks to the traditional Belgian yeast. Good mouthfeel and carbonation on the tongue

750 mL corked bottle, date on bottom says 5/4/2018. Hazy golden with swirling columns of carbonation in a Chimay goblet, long lasting fine creamy foam head. Smells of banana, alcohol, and a little sour straw. Tastes of banana and alcohol with some other spice flavors that just don't seem quite right. An unusual brew which tastes more like an odd mix of chemicals than the usual belgian characteristics. Mouthfeel is watery with some sting from carbonation and alcohol, but a little creamy. Overall, I was disappointed in this beer, partly because of the expectations raised by the high ratings others have given it. But really, I have had a good number of other tripels and this may be my least liked one - just something unnatural and unappealing "chemical" in its taste. What went wrong with this batch/bottle, or is it just some variation in individual preference - but my other reviews of tripels have been more in line with general consensus.

A 330ml bottle with a best before date of 12th March 2017. Poured into a Chimay goblet.

Appearance: A wonderful clear golden colour with a two finger foamy white head that had pretty good retention, nice curtain lacing that eventually settles to a thin foamy cap.

Aroma: Wheaty, banana, clove and peach with light citrus and vanilla.

Taste: Zesty lemon sweetness, sour peach gummy candy, yeast, lightly bready and spicy with a hint of honey, banana and clove.

Mouthfeel: Creamy, medium bodied with moderate to high carbonation with some obvious booziness every now and then.

Overall: Wow, this has to easily be one of my favourite Tripels and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to try it. It would be almost perfect if the booziness was toned down a bit. Having said that, it’s still a great beer and easily a must buy beer for me.

What a wonderful Tripel...I've been on a good streak this week! This one is a beautiful light golden color with a full 2 finger head...There is nice lacing as well... The first thing that hits you is the oats and barley (in the nose and mouth)....and then the sweet fruitness. Bananas and mellow citrus notes, followed by a little zing of spiciness. The yeast here is distinctly Belgian and the carbonation is at the proper sizzle... Very impressed, as I should be, as this ale won a Gold Medal at the World Beer Cup in its category (which is proudly displayed on the back of the bottle). Fantastic!

Gold color, slightly cloudy. Foam white, fine-grained, high and stable, leaves a lot of decorations. Fruity aroma, with a hint of banana and rural accents. Taste: like aroma, marked fruitiness with hints of banana, vanilla and rural accents. Alcohol perfectly hidden. Saturation high, fits here.

Pours a calm-looking hazy color with a modest sized head.

Smells of cloves, bananas, slight citric sourness, and a bundle of spicy fruits.

I feel like a lot of the tripels I've had have emphasized the sweetness more than this, and yet this is quite good. There is plenty of wheat, various spices, and a little bit of Belgian yeast present in the flavor. Yet, I can't shake the feeling that this could used a little bit more balance as the taste feels quite aggressive for the style.

Poured into a tulip. A moderately hazy golden yellow color. The head was a bright white rocky cap that slowly settled. Aromas of straw, hay, banana, cherry, and wheat. I tasted the wheat first, followed with a medley of floral phenolics, banana, pepper, and hay. A touch of citrus. High carbonation and a medium-bodied feel. Slightly hot on the finish. Enjoyable, but not my favorite tripel.
