New update review:1/5/17

A bright, thickly hazy , golden wheat color. Very carbonated and lively, creates a monsterous white cap, dense foam in the middle, bubbly around the edges, nice lace all around after the receding.

Aroma is a very classic, sour, herbal and peppery yeast, wild fruits, sour green grapes and apples, white zin wine, with a buttery-sweet malt kick. The yeast and earthy hop aroma is just perfect, tart, wild, tangy and mildly sweet. White pepper and hetbs with a substantial grainy aromatic effect makes it seriously aromatic.

The flavor.... Just classic. Bar-setting complexity. The intense malt and grains provide a deep malty effect, and the oats making the mouthfeel soooo smooth and lush in the finish! The complex, earthy , sour yeast and hop combo goes on forever. A white wine (Zinfendel) grape and lasting, earthy tone is the icing on the cake. The sour golden wheat and Oats give the malty flavor a massive complexity and perfect balance to the earthy, sour tones.

Crafted to. near-perfection for the style and then some.

probably the second best tripel out there, behind only the one from westmalle, which to me is the end all and be all of the style. this one pours a lot more clear than that one, yellowy and shiny with an inch of really active white bubbles and soda looking carbonation racing to the surface. the nose is sweet, probably from the oats, and the yeast is nicely bready. light fruit notes as well, maybe pears or green apples. the taste is immediately peppered from the yeast, spicy really, quite intense as it finishes. its a good balance with the sweeter malt. the feel is probably what makes this what it is, a beer of lore. that's because its ultra carbonated with an extremely dry finish. it tickles my tongue quite hard, and swallows easy with just the pepper left on my tongue. soft pepper, white pepper, but pepper all the same. just a hint of warm alcohol too, maybe a little more than necessary, prevents sessionability, but I like whats going on here overall, an excellent example of a Belgian tripel.
