This place has changed a lot over the years, it used to be so packed you couldn't breathe. These days it is a decent place to grab a beer. Selection is adequate and food is fine.

Went fairly early on a Saturday night. It's basically a big old house that's been converted into a bar. We were able to get one of the upstairs rooms to ourselves (group of 6), which greatly improved the atmosphere, in my opinion.

The only real service we saw was that periodically someone would come and collect our empties. We were walking down to the bar to order instead of depending on table service.

Selection is not great, but it's adequate. They have a few big name imports (Newcastle, Guinness), a few big name craft beers (Sierra Nevada), and a few local brews (Coop, Coach's). Most of the big styles were available. The stuff I tried seemed to be in good shape. My favorite of the night was Coop's IPA.

I had a good time there, but it's more of a trendy bar with a slightly above average emphasis on beer than a go-to beer spot.

This establishment is fairly new, but has been around a year or so, and seeing as I've been spending most of my beer time at McNellie's, I figure it's time to spread the love.

The 51st Street Speakeasy sets on a side street right off the hip "Western" avenue. It's in an older two story frame house, which gives it some character. There's a bar upstairs, and one downstairs, and there's a place for live music on the ground floor. Upstairs has a number of smaller rooms set off to the sides so small groups of people can enjoy their own space in a more intimate setting. Craft brew tacker signs dot the walls.

I showed up about 5:30, and had a hard time getting served at first, as I waited at the bar for about 20 minutes. After that everything went smoothly. I counted about 16 or so taps with the usual suspects ranging from Rogue to Chimay. The COOP ales are also available, which is a definite plus.

Although the Speakeasy doesn't have a stellar selection of beers, it's a fun place to go if your looking to have a few good beers in a relaxed atmosphere. I will definitely be going back.
