I have never had any problems getting help in the shop. I have heard many people saying they feel like the guy was talking down to them, but I didn't experience that myself. Granted, I had been brewing for years before the first time I went in, so maybe that had something to do with it. I have always gotten service within a minute or two, if not immediately. I've chatted with the guy that is always in there for upwards of 20 minutes almost every time I've gone.
The reason I am giving them a 4.0 for service is because the hours aren't very good in my opinion, especially on the weekends.
Their selection is much, much better than Dr. Jekyll's. Not just in terms of additives/chemicals/etc, but their grain selection is far superior. I think maybe one time they didn't have exactly what I wanted, but they had a substitution that worked out just fine. Their crush isn't amazing, but I crush at home now so that isn't a problem.
All that being said, their prices are a little high. I think some of the grain prices have come down a bit, but last time I was there 2-row was $1.85 a pound. Ouch. $4 for all hop varieties and $5.75 for 1oz of oak chips also bites. Selection is great....prices, not so much.

Been in here a few times, mostly good experiences. I had trouble getting help a couple of times though. The last time I went in, at there newest I-20 location, I was not treated very well at all. The guy did not seem to want to answer my questions. Though they seem knowledgeable, they are off there game with service at times. There weekend hours aren't real helpful either - I went by more than once to find it closed. That caused me to drive to Dr. Jeckyll's Beer Lab on Park Row in Arlington. Good for Pat at Jeckyll's, bad for the Winemaker shop. I think Pat's demeanor has me sold on one brew shop--sorry Winemaker Shop!

Thanks, Scott

This staff is great and fairly knowledgable. They are big supporters of the local brewers/vintners but since that's who keeps them in business it's to be expected.

The location is on I-20 and easy to get to but you need to know it's there to see it from the interstate.

The selection is good but everytime I've needed something that wasn't normally carried they were more than willing to order it. I have never purchashed yeast or grain that wasn't fresh and have always been happy with my purchases. Even when I took a stab at the alchemy of making colas they were more than happy to outfit me with knowledge and ingredients.

The prices have always been good and from my undertstanding you get a 10% discount if you're a card carrying member of a local homebrew club or winemaking club so the reasonable prices are even better if you're a regular customer.

New digs in the south part of town, lease problems in their old long-time location on Vickery. Nice, new, clean facilities in an industrial park facing the highway (next door to the Bavarian Bakery).

One room is all wine, the room behind is all beer. Grain, extract, fresh yeast, all ingredients, equipment and more. Not the most extensive selection but a great variety, both fresh and stock products. Staff is sparse but very knowledgeable, this place has been in business forever.

Easily, the best brewing source in Tarrant County. Closes early on Saturday and all day Sunday.
