Even Greene King has stopped pretending this is an IPA - on the barrel, it says GK IPA Bitter, and on the back of the pump clip, it says "Amber Ale". Further diluted down from 3.6% to 3.4% to cash in on the lower tax bracket, you'd be better off drinking water. A murky yellow-brown colour, with a yellowish soapy head when poured without a sparkler - when poured with a sparkler you're more likely to get head than beer.

No nose to speak of, other than a note of dishwater. Thin, mealy mouthfeel, with notes of bread and caramel. On the finish, apple and banana.

The sort of beer drunk by old men who can't handle 4%, and Spanish-speaking tourists who are immediately disappointed by this "IPA".

Its continued existence shames Britain.

This is a bit of a hidden-in-plain sight gem. The is an old school IPA;l pale, crystal and black malts with Pilgrim, Challenger and First Gold Hops. This isn't a New World IPA, no Cascade or other citrusy American hops. This beer could have gone to India. It has a deeper colour than most lagers, pours a decent head, and a slightly hoppy aroma. The taste is great for a session beer, it comes in at 3.6 ABV. It starts out well with a bit of malt and then goes into a bitter, hoppy , finish. This is my current go to beer for regular drinking.

Served into an IPA glass - has a white head that lowers but lingers.
Color is dark orange almost brownish, turbid and not clear.
Aroma is caramel malt with a floral hop aroma in the back, very nice.
The taste follows the nose but has more hop flavor come through but not bitter.
It has a good taste and is refreshing but has not a lot of body. It is Ok.

Had on cask. Simpler ale with lightly caramel dark malt, mild mannered english yeast, and grassy hops. Nose is a lighter version of the taste. Feel is light and much maltier that expected, hops are gentle but firm in the finish. Looks great though with clear orangey brown body, a full cream colored head and thick sheets of lacing.

On cask(!) at The Lucas Arms in London, on to the beer:

First of all, this is not what American's would consider an IPA. If you come into this beer without that expectation, you will come away just fine. It's a dark copper colored beer with a small crop of head above. If there's hoppiness to be had, they're weak. It's a simple pub ale which tries to be different with the IPA monikor, and is something worthy enough to drink a couple rounds.

A crisp ale, no significant hops profile as expected from an IPA. Low alcohol content, easy to drink.

500ml bottle from McColl's, Glasgow (£1.99):
Dark amber to mahogany but quite clear bodied, topped with a half cm, foamy white head covering the surface & holding fairly well. Sweet & buttery to start, some apple atop a nutty base with some caramel to finish; very basic on the nose though. It's more of a bitter, earthy taste with some caramel malts & bread flavours coming through, I got some nutty touches too with toffee & faint grassy hops to finish. It's quite gassy with strong carbonation & a tangy, lingering bitter finish that seemed stronger than the 3.6% but it's basic & pretty poor overall.

Appearance is light brown with a good one finger head that quickly fades. Smell of burned bread. Taste is stale hops, grit, acrid, sour. Mouthfeel is sand, sticky and horrible. In fact I'm not sure why people drink this beer and I would not have called it an IPA. The saving grace is the watery aspect which makes the sand less unpleasant.
