The Arkansas River Valley is home to 14,000′ peaks in Colorado and this beer fits the bill. A rich Imperial Java Stout with Buena Vista Roastery coffee and lots of roasted chocolate malts.

Poured into a snifter. Dark and viscous on the pour, producing a medium-sized tan head. Fresh coffee and fudge on the nose. Faint herbal hops. No surprises on the palate as there was big roasty, chocolate, and coffee notes. The bitterness was there but melded well with the roast forming a dark chocolate flavor. Silky feel and ABV well-hidden.

Poured into a Trillium glass a very nice dark brown/black color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice thick/creamy two-finger tan head, which leaves a very nice medium size island and some pretty nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, hoppy, with some pretty nice chocolate/toffee, some coffee, vanilla, some roastyness. The taste is pretty nice malty, hoppy, pretty nice touch of chocolate/toffee, pretty nice touch of coffee, vanilla, pretty nice roastyness. Medium body, ABV hidden pretty nicely, nice little dry/bitter finish. Overall, a pretty tasty beer.

On tap at the Eddyline Restaurant in to a snifter glass.

A-The beer is good looking. A finger of tan foam sits on top of a black liquid that is pretty much opaque. The head is dense and leaves a bit of lacing as it fades. No carbonation to be seen.

S-The aroma is pleasant, but nothing outstanding. I sniff heavy roasted malt and some char, which is amplified by the java flavor that suggests drip coffee. The oats are subtle, but they provide a bit of smoothness to what would otherwise be a pretty burly and bitter smelling beer.

T-The taste follows the smell identically. Coffee flavors suggest drip coffee with moderate bitterness, but it lacks the character and complexity of a good espresso stout. Char, wisps of smoke, and heavy roast are dominant. The oats provide just enough smoothness and creaminess to keep the beer from being overpowering. Alcohol is well hidden.

M-The body is medium in heft with a lighter amount of carbonation that is semi-crisp for a stout.

O-This is a good beer, but nothing to seek out. If you're looking for a warm-up brew to sip on after a day in the mountains, this one will work.

Enjoyed on the slopes at Crested Butte! Poured from a 16oz can into a plastic cup (come on Utley's Cabin Ice Bar).
Appearance- black as night, even against the warm, bright Colorado spring sun; head is a medium thick, off brown; lacing is okay.
Smell - dark chocolate and robust coffee.
Taste - for a big beer, this dark chocolate and medium roast coffee is very drinkable on a spring skiing day!
Feel - big, bold and hearty, yet drinkable and hits the spot!
Overall - probably a biased review, as I am reviewing a few days after having at a bar on the slopes in the rockies; highly enjoyable!

Really good. Can definitely taste the coffee. Also slightly sweet, maybe syrupy & slight alcohol taste. Very dark & heavy but slightly sweet not dry. Heavy aftertaste of coffee & maybe a little drier on the finish. Heavy & good. Did I say heavy?

first review ever because I think this brewery is hella solid and deserves recognition. half a finger light brown head that goes away fast. smell is heavvvvvvvy coffee. a little chocolate. that sh*t I do like. taste is rich, dark roasted coffee with a massive body. some sweetness coming in on the end with a little roasted/smokey malts. definitely one I would want to sip on in the lodge after a long day on the mountain.

16 oz can. Pours dark brown with a medium creamy brown head that retains well and laces the glass some.

The aroma is sweet chocolate malts and roast coffee.

The flavor is sweet chocolate malts with a lot of roast coffee (slightly acidic) and a fairly bitter roast finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, a very nice coffee stout. Reminds me of Santa Fe's but not quite as good.
