A - Well, it's a beer and wine supply store.. and at this point I've never walked into one and thought "Wow, this place has the vibe of a city in the south of France".

Q - You can't argue with what they have here, it's probably the least intimidating homebrew supply store that I've been in. Stuff is well laid out and it's easy to find what you need.

S - This is where these guys really shine. Ask a question and they answer it, without any attitude.. I've learned a ton from just shopping here.

Selection - They've got a lot of stuff, period. Can you imagine if homebrewers would've had the rack of imported and local hops, liquid yeasts and grain types 10 yrs ago??

V - I'm not sure it's the cheapest place to buy stuff.. but it's my local store and a great place. What these guys might lack in inventory, they certainly make up for in service and more service. If you are wanting to start brewing it's as easy as just walking in the door and asking what you need (although, you might save yourself a helluva lot of time by researching what some of what you'll need prior to dropping by)

Great spot... enough stuff for any brew you could want to brew. The service was fantastic each time I went, and they found me just what I needed, and even taught me a few things as they all seemed very knowledgeable. Everything seemed fine and fresh in the place... and the prices are not bad at all. I bought all my bottling equipment there as well. Nice place, glad it is there.

It's a great location for me as I moved up to Vancouver... and the prices are competitive enough even to not bother going into Oregon to shoot ones self in the foot by not paying the taxt up here.

Heard they have nice classes as well. Great joint.

the good: low prices, great staff, it's kept really clean, and they're open later than Steinbarts.

the ok: the selection of yeast and brewing hardware

the bad: the grain, it's old and kept like crap

I go to Bader's when I have to, eg when I'm in a pinch and Steinbarts is closed. It'd be a great shop anywhere else, but in northern Oregon there are a lot of great ones to show it up. I don't care about paying sales tax, but I'd like to see their grain stock be something that I'd actually consider buying from

Bader Beer and yes Wine Supply is your friendly neighborhood supplier for just about all of your home brew needs. They have diversified over the years and now even have wine tasting events and host beer judging for events like the Clark County Fair. They also host brewing classes, from beginners to advanced all grain brewing. The staff is top notch and very friendly. The supplies are quite varied and include just about anything you could need from the conditioning of your strike water to your keg. Just today we had a discussion about how to identify hops on the vine when you don't know what they are. Turns out its all about the shape of the leaves.

Since Steinbart's in Portland keeps such limited weekend hours I ended up driving across the river to Bader Beer & Wine, I am glad I did. This is a medium sized shop associated with a small winery/make wine on premise operation.

Clean, well run, prices decent and marked - not just made up on the spot. The ingredients I've purchased have been fresh and they seem to move through their stock quickly enough to keep them fresh. They have a good selection of malt, hops, and both Wyeast and White Labs liquid yeast.

The thing that sets this shop apart is their service. Sure, I could shop in Oregon and avoid paying sales tax (which does not apply to malted barley by the way). But, the folks at Bader know their stuff, and take their time with each customer. They have helped me with draft systems, hard to find grains, and I have watched how they interact with some less experienced brewers - good advice every time vs. trying to sell you things you don't need.

This shop deserves your support.
