A beer I forgot about in the back of my fridge, from my trip to Israel back in June.

Pours an off white almost mocha cream colored light fizzy 1/4 finger head that fades at a med pace to a light fizzy head covering, and some decent lacing, over slightly clear dark mahogany colored beer with some ruby light sneaking through.

Nose has some not so great lager aromas somewhat lower end macro lager but not as bad as the bad ones. Corn adjunct like sweet aroma, light malts, little lager malt, light lager crispness, little caramel and roasted malt, little coffee even. despite the cheap lager aroma, it's not bad.

Taste starts with a cola syrup, little root beer like and corn syrup flavor, again corn adjunct, little earthy herbal root like flavor, syrupy, little caramel, just a bit of roasted malt and coffee, slight metallic lager and light meh lager of typical gold star. Finish is dry but sticky, little caramel corn syrup, light metallic flavor.

Mouth is med bodied, decent carb, little syrupy.

Overall not so great, more like a darker colored version of the regular cheap macro tasting gold star lager with a little roast. A few years ago this would have been good for Israeli beers, but there are so many other great Israeli beers popping up now so they could do a lot better.

Ok, I was excited when I saw this one in the store, but it does not really deliver what it promises. The beer tastes and smells good, but- like regular Gold Star- it is a bit light/weak. The flavor is not as strong as it should be. It doesn't taste like a porter should, just like an average dark beer... The dark chocolaty malt is there, but it is hidden in the background.

Overall, the beer looks nice and goes down easily, but it is not what a porter should be. For being labled 'brewmasters collection' I would expect more. This is like an Israeli version of BMC brewmasters collection. Better than the regular, but that's not saying too much.

The Gold Star Black Roast is one heck of a beer!
Rich, Dark, Choclaty and with a great yeasty taste to it.
This special edition (Brewmaster's Collection) is a real premium drink and to my taste it can easly compete with Fuller's porter and anything else out there.
Hurray for the great Israeli pride - Gold Star!
