Dust Bowl Brewing had been on my list for a few years but living 90 minutes away and not wanting to battle traffic on I-99 to get there, I always found a reason to stay a bit more local. After having a 22 oz. bottle of the Therapist a few years back, I couldn't wait for a reason to head to Turlock. Yeah, sorry central valley, I need a reason to out there or else I will find other beer to consume.

I arrived to DBB on a Wednesday, just after 3pm. The parking lot wasn't full, so I found a spot near the entrance and walked into the brewery. It, like others I have been to (notably Stone) was quite impressive at first look. The 30,000 square foot facility reminds you of something from the middle of Oklahoma, a large building rising out of nowhere with high ceiling and glass on two of the wall. Behind the glass, all the brewing equipment, looking polished and sharp.

I took a seat at the bar and took in the scenery for a moment. There was ample seating inside and out, while I was there. Then again, it was midweek still during the work day. I took a look at the electronic menu was was rather fortunate I knew a majority of the beers on tap. However, I decided to give a flight of five a spin and try a few DBB beers I had not fancied before.

Since I had a few hours to kill, I decided to get a menu and see what they had in the kitchen. It was pub food, but from what I had seen from others around me, it was a very generous portion that was very well presented. I decided to start with a small salad, as I couldn't make my mind up on something more filling.

I finished my flight, keeping track of my notes on each beer I sampled, I grabbed the menu once against and placed an order for the fish and chips with a side of sweet potato fries. The bartender changed and about 5-10 minutes after he arrived, he had to go check on my food as it hadn't been brought out. So, if there is any complaint, it was the food too just a bit too long to arrive.

That said, the food was excellent. I received a nice sized platter with 3 pieces of healthy battered fish and a large pile of fries with a side of cole slaw and some malted vinegar and tarter sauce. I coupled this with their Nitro Milk Stout, as I sat, enjoying my meal.

The walk to the restrooms was neat, as you walk to the far back wall, through a glass door that leads into a glass hallway that parallels the brewing/canning floor. Impressive to take it.

Overall, if I happen to be in the central valley, south of Modesto, there really is just once place to visit, it's Dust Bowl. Definitely worth the stop.

This review is for the new restaurant at the brewery. As far as places to go for beer in the central valley, this place is near the top of the list. This says more about the area than Dust Bowl itself, but they are a good selection of good beer. Nothing great, but most the brews are good. The food here is excellent, everything my table ordered looked great and my food was awesome.

The two main issues I had were: 1. This place is always packed because of the lack of good beer places in the Central Valley and 2. The price was on the steeper side for beer that is just good. The sampler was great value because it's 5 pours of about 4oz each for $9. However, everything else was on the higher side for the area.

I love this place but so does everyone else in town. If you don't have a reservation you will need to hover at the bar to find a place to sit but it's worth it. Scrumptious. can't get enough. perfect after hitting golf balls :)

In the last week I visited the DBB, in my college hometown of Turlock, CA. I shared 2 flights of 5 tasters and all were excellent. Had the Hops of Wrath, 6.6%, 50 IBU, Therapist, 10.4%, 100+ IBU, both outstanding. Cherry IPA, Belgian Blonde, Red Ale, Hobo Pilsner, Indigeny Blackberry (hard cider-awesome), Lateral 1 IPA, and Flanders Red... all very, very good and all worthy of a full pint ! However, the one that hit my peak was the Wheat IPA ! Loved it ! Could have had more but I was the driver. If you find yourself in the San Jose bay area with a spare day, a 1.5-2 hr drive will get you to this small farming community; DDB is a must stop for anyone who loves beer !

This place rocked it. Well worth the drive from 99. Only @ 5 minutes. The food was awesome. Nice portions for your money. Everything tasted great. Try the Mac and cheese sticks. The beer here very good.

It was a bustling night at the local watering hole in Turlock California. We wait about 30 minutes for a table. We picked up a flight of beer to sample and some food. The beers came we began deciphering what was presented. Five beers, three were very tasty and easy sipping and the other two were not just decent. In fact, I would not lose any sleep if I never got a chance to drink them again. The food came out hot and juicy. The food was very flavorful, cooked perfect, and very tasty. I would go back again and again just for the food. I understood why it was packed like sardines in a tin can. The wait staff was extremely friendly, very helpful, provided excellent service, and had such a positive attitude for being so slammed. The tap selection was plentiful. The vibe of the place was just full of life and bright. Overall, it was a really positive experience. I enjoyed my brief stay and look forward to another visit.

Finally got a chance to stop into Turlock just before closing to fill some growlers and try some of their brewery-only beers. Rad little spot (wish I would have shown up in time for food!) with a very helpful staff. Beers were on point; the IPAs, lager, barley wine and scotch ales stood out as their best. If you're in the neighborhood there's no better spot to grab great beer in the Central Valley!

This review is for the downtown taproom. Great beers in downtown Turlock. Food selection is good but the place can get crowded in the evening especially on the weekends. Service can get a little slow then but that can be expected. Beer selection is great. Give Dust Bowl a try.

Their current taproom in downtown Turlock is a not so hidden gem. As such it can get a bit busy, especially around dinner time so be prepared to grab a pint and wait for a table. They are always experimenting with their beer so there is always something new to try. The food is what you could call pub fare with their own spin on it. It has a comfortable kinda laid back restaurant feel with some tables inside as well as a nice patio area. I love coming up with excuses to stop in here.

I love this place and make a point to go when in town. Honestly, Dust Bowl is more impressive than most breweries where I live (Sacramento). The food has always been at least good and I'd even say the most recent menu is great. Their beer selection has a few staples but is very diverse, with around ten to twelve house selections. Dust Bowl is busy each day it's open and for good reason. This is truly a beer drinkers destination.

Nice, simple and modern brew pub. Good selection of their beers plus a few from other breweries. Typical but excellent pub food. Lots of tables but can still get crowded on weekend evenings. Go there.
