The color as it sets in the glass a deep translucent gold with a modest, frothy and bright white head, lace is a thin sheet upon the glass. Nose is malt sweet, crisp and clean, start is also quite sweet and fair malt presence, top is quite thin. Finish is sternly acidic, hops present and pleasing to the palate, very dry aftertaste, a drinkable beer, and once again a decent palate cleaner.

Pours a clear goldens straw color with a nice soapy pure white head. Perhaps a shade darker than most Pils. The aroma is of cracker like malt, pepper, spicey Saaz hops; right on for the style. The taste is more of a doughy malt, which kind of neutralizes the spicy hop to a small extent. However the grassy, spicey hops are still there along with a light grainy/cooked veggie taste. The feel is light but not watery, soft to active carbonation; finishes a tad dry. A decent Pils that does the job if looking for a Pils. Not the best but fairly solid.

Poured into a pilsener glass. Slightly orange straw color with a nice white head that's fluffier than most and doesn't fizzle out. Aroma is toasty and grainy, possible corn adjunct character? Flavor is very grainy up front and then washes into a grassy, slightly metallic hop bitterness. Some astringency. Thin and watery. The bitterness is pretty solid for a pilsener but that's the only interesting thing about this beer.

$3.99 for a 6-Pack of 12 fl.z. in Culver City, CA. BARGAIN !!!!But don't let the low price fool you - this is a very high quality Pilsner-type Lager all the way from Brno, Czech Republic. The perfect archetypal Gold Pilsner pours well with good carbonation and a huge 3" head. Lovely hoppy nose that just invites to down this beer on hot days. Bitterness is average, you can taste the Saaz hops, but they are perfectly balanced well with soft malt tastes. Well Rounded and Extremely Quaffable. In 1991, I back-packed aorund Europe on a "shoestring" Budget with a friend of mine after we finished we our respective Degrees. We stayed in Brno (it was cheap) and drank this in obscenely huge quantities in the Town, as well as at the Brewery, for 10 cents a half litre or something ridiculously stupid like that. In what was Czechoslovakia then - it was called StaroBrno 12 (they use the Degrees Plato). This lager takes me right back there. Bloody Good, and I am going back to Trader Joes tomorrow with my friends Pick-Up !!!!!!!

Ok i bought a sixer of this at Trader Joes for only $4.49..was not expecting much.
Comes ina 12 oz euro style brown( thank goodness) bottle.
Pours a nice semi-dark golden colour with a monstrous frothy white head that threatens to overwhelm my glass..but quickly subsides..leaves a descent lacing.
Smell is of spicy hops as I would expect froma Czech lager..very fresh.
MM a simply lovelly taste, creamy in front then the zingy hops take over..nice very, "thick"..I like a lager thats not too thin and this is good.
Great on the palate thick and creamy yet exhilarating hops..great stuff.
Very drinkable indeed this hot June night!.
I recommend this lager highly ..if you in Trader Joes grab a six pack or two its a great deal.

11.2 oz bottle just copped from New Beer Distributors on Chrystie Street in Manhattan...
This is a Czech Pilsener in the true sense of the word...
Appearance: Light-golden hue, massive head, tremendous amount of lacing...
Smell: Strong, assertive, musty aroma with hints of slight hops, and vanilla...
Taste: Crisp, clean, refreshing... Light on flavor, but an enjoyable, easily drinkable nonetheless...
Not bad...

A clear, light amber with an average thumb sized head that has good retention & lasts well.

Pretty standard for a pilsener/pale lager with a sweet malt smeel along with some grain and hops. Nothing out of the ordinary but nothing negative either.

Again pretty common taste with a slight corn, some grassy hops & some malts in there too. Finishes with a mild bitter aftertaste & goes down well.

Pretty smooth and easy to drink like most pale lagers. Nice, clean & crisp as well as being quite refreshing. Surprisingly I found this to be quite full bodied for a pilsener & it would be a decent session beer too.

Nice overall and very refreshing & drinkable although not the nicest in the world. Still a solid pilsener though that would work well as a session beer.

Sampled in Bratislava, Slovakia at KGB Pub:

From the tap with fine white foam and a amber colored body. Much darker than most Lager. This shows also on a more expressed malt character. Ever so slightly Diacetyl for a fuller mouthfeel. Smooth drinkable but also a bit unexpressef on the hops

Medium yellow color, small white foamy head. Aroma is fruity, grainy na dsweet. A nice pilsner style lager. Crisp slightly bitter lager. Some hoppyness. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is hoppy slightly bitter. This is a real nice $4 a 6 pack beer.

This is a good Czech pilsner, tasty, very clean, crisp, nicely balanced and refreshing, yet not as full-bodied or strongly flavoured as some.

It's slightly pale amber with a large, faintly off-white head that dissipates slowly to a thin top with a hint of lace.

The aroma is a nice pilsner smell - toasty grain, bread, hay, honey, hints of pine and herbs.

The taste is mostly herbal with honey, grain, hay, and a hint of fresh apple. It has great balance and starts with a smooth, silky honey sweetness with a little toasty bread, smoothly morhping into a tingly herbal, lightly bitter, finish that rides hints of hay, grass, and grain. It's very clean, yet flavourful and has nice sublte complexity, yet the flavours can easily be lost if it's tood cold or if one has, say, a cold.

Nice head (foamy and sticks all the way to the bottom), clear golden colour, nice smelling (hoppy and floral), good bitterness on the palate, but it was a bit edgy in taste at times, but i still liked it. Not the best Czeck pils, but a pretty solid one anyway, not bad.

Pours a medium gold with a nice foamy wite head and some decent lacing.

Grassy light malt with a light scent of green-leaf bitterness.

This one has some sweet light malt with a strong grassy edge, both sweet and sour, with a light smooth bitter hop bite near the end. Some husk-like bitterness as well, but it is fairly well hidden. Decent beer.

Lighter bodied with some fair carbonation. A very very easy drinker. Thought this one had just what was needed for the style, and was missing those off-elements that can turn a beer from being ok to a disappointment. Fairly clean and refreshing. Worth a try.

Dark gold, slightly orange color with a bery small complete layer of head on top of the beer. Not much in the nose, except some tart grassy malts. Taste is full and grassy, with an ok hops finish. Tastes much like any other czech pilsner, riding out grassy malts for the bulk of the flavor. OK, but no better than most of the others.

I loved in Czech for 6 months and I would have to say this was one of my favorites. Most of Americans didn't like it as much and opted for the less pungent Gambrinus. Great example of a fine Pilsner. I tried back in the US and I would have to say it's not the same. But, still a great beer.

A: Deep gold color with good clarity and mild carbonation. White head starts out firm, but quickly disappears.

S: Smells of raw malts and some straw. A hint of lemon is in the background.

T: Starts out with a dry malt flavor that is only slightly sweet. Bitterness is well balanced and has a strong pepper flavor. Finishes fairly clean, with some lingering lemon bitterness.

M: Medium light body is a little slick. Carbonation level is right where it should be.

D: I didn't find anything all that special about this. Still, it's fairly well done and a fine session brew.

Comes in a tall brown half liter bottle with a classy but unimaginative label featuring nothing but lettering. All in English, by the way, although I bought my bottle in a Moscow grocery store. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Best before 11/27/03, I opened it on 10/15/03.

Pours a clear reddish gold under a small, thin white head that settled quickly at about half a (small) finger, but then lingered quite nicely, leaving a bit of lace. The nose is marvellous - flower hops and a touch of honey. The mouth is prickly and medium-bodied, with a definite hoppy sensation to it. There's a touch of malt to the taste, but the hops are everywhere, flowery, sweet and bitter all at once. The finish features a good crisp bitterness that lingers into the delicious aftertaste. What a great beer!

Starbrno pours a golden color with a white head from a green 11.2 ounce bottle. The aroma is mildly skunky hops. The flavor sarts with hops, once again mild and skunky, as typical of Euro lagers. Then a mild sweet malt lurks toward the back at the end. Typical Euro lager, drink it cold, there were some cardboard flavors as it warmed.

Had this one on-tap at the Bohemian Beer Hall in Queens.

My 1/2 liter sample poured with a white head and a decent amount of lacing as it went down the glass.

The aroma was only faintly hoppy, with notes of carapils malt and a bit of corn.

The taste had a decent balance, but shifted to a sharp bitterness of unsubstantiated hops in the finish.

The beer was light to medium bodied.

It would be a drinkable brew, except for the shift in the balance...

A nice clean tasting beer that goes down very nicely. A good looking beer with a light golden hue and nice white head that laces rather thinnly, but remains consistent. There is a good delicate balance of the grain and hops combination. It does not overpower in any single department. Clean and crisp sense with a pleasant aroma. Nicely bottled and labeled. Try this, you may like it also.

Nice solid pearl-white head with ample fluff.
It smells like lemon bread. There is a slight strawberry note buried within as well. On the palate it is crisp with sweet, ripe grain flavors that morph into nuts and the classic toated bread flavor of Bohemia. Clean, good quality water flavor in the finish. Slightly dilute.

Starobrno poured a nice light golden color with a nice medium tight white foam. The smell was pleasant for a lager and the taste was also pleasant, except for the bitter/sour taste. The sour part of this brew is why I marked it low. It did have nice lace on the glass, but, I wish that sour taste in the mouth wasn't there!
