Aug. 2010: 500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 10%. Pitch black colour, impressive brown head. The aroma has strong notes of peat smoked and birch smoked malts (which indeed are essential ingredients in this beer), also notes of tar, old rope and coffee, hints of dark chocolate. The flavour has loads of smoke, tar and sweet malts, caramel, roasted notes with coffee and dark bitter chocolate. Roasty and hoppy bitterness in the aftertaste. A solid imperial stout.

A: Jet black with a inch thick light brown head. Lacing ok
S: More smokey than I expected. Wood. Dark chocolate
T: Follows the aroma, but also some coffee. The smoke is more present in the taste. than the smell. Becomes dominant in the end
M: Medium/Heavy for beeing a RIS. Not well balanced. The alcohol comes through too strong and the smoke (even though I love Rauchbier) feels misplaced.
O: My first RIS in years and the experience was mixed. It got my hooked on these heavy stouts again, but I immediately felt I wanted something better. Not a bad RIS, but whith so many good ones out there, this is a "been here, drank that" type of beer.

Pours black with a large tan head.
Nose shows hefty peat along with some more woody smoke notes. A bit of chocolate and roast too.
Similarly smoky flavours, lots more peat. A fair whack of roast and some booze and herbal hop bitterness.
