12 oz bottle into a Konings Hoeven Chalice.

A - Virtually no head, a super light foam covers just part of the glass. Very inviting super dark brown color.

S - Detect the blueberries, possibly a touch of chocolate.

T - Just like the smell, definitely taste the blueberries. Slightly bitter start, finishes with the taste of blueberries, quite interesting.

M - Not too thin and good amount of super fine carbonation. No large bubbles here.

O - The first blueberry beer I have ever had that I enjoyed. It's an interesting stout, and far from the norm of blueberry beers.

Poured from a 12 oz twist off cap bottle into a KY Bourbon Barrel snifter.

A - A medium pour yields almost no head, but of what there is is fizzy and tan in color. Body is cloudy and black in color with the occasional ruby highlight. Lacing is only slight.

S - Smells of blueberries and dark malts. Alcohol more and more noticeable as it warms.

T - Blueberries aren't quite as pronounced in the taste as they are on the nose. Mostly malty sweetness upfront with a blueberry and chocolaty finish. Not sure if I should put this in taste, but the burps are like I've been eating chocolate chip and blueberry pancakes.

M - Medium bodied and way overcarbonated. This stout suffers because of it.

O - This oatmeal stout has some great and unique flavors, however the overcarbonation made me not enjoy this beer as much as I should have.

12-oz bottle into Samuel Smith "Tulip" pint glass

A - dark brown body (looks black, but with a red/orange tint under light) under 2 fingers of medium tan head

S - blueberries and surypy sweetness; buscuity malt profile

T - toasty malt and blueberries; notes of chocolate and coffee; plenty sweet; more bitter in the finish, where the 7.5% makes its presence known

M - medium/full bodied with above average carbonation; smooth and slightly chewy

O - I'm not a huge fan of fruit beers, but the blueberries in this one blend well with the grain for a very balanced flavor.

Appearance - Pours a dark brownish/black color with a VERY small frothy tan head.. Has thin lacing.

Smell - Strong scent of blueberries that mostly drowns out everything else. I also

Taste - Toasted malts up front, with blueberries and a hint of chocolate. Quite bitter with a strong alcohol bite in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium body with high carbonation.

Overall - To be honest.. I can't stand this beer lol. Maybe it's just because I don't like stouts, but I thought this one would be different. I didn't really taste any oatmeal either.

A-dark black with small to no head. A bit on the still side.

S-fresh blueberries with a bit of a chocolate malt and anise smell.

T-big licorice flavor which I believe is supposed to be the blueberry. blueberry comes just a bit and finishes with a chocolate malt/maltiness with a hint of alcohol heat.

M-very low carb and medium body.

O-good beer but not a favorite by any means. Give credit to a small brewer though.

APPEARANCE
Pours of a very dark brown. Retains very little head.

SMELL
Definitely has a very strong smell of sweet blueberries.

TASTE
It is made of roasted malts with a hint of sweetness. If there is some oats, it is not very prominent.

MOUTHFEEL
It is well-carbonated, but has a creamy feel.

OVERALL
It is an ok beer. It is different from the Seadog Blueberry because this is a stout. It is a very good attempt and is well worth a try.

poured (into a tulip) a thin dark brown with a tiny amount of head which quickly disappeared. smells of toasted oats, greek olives.. not getting a blueberry scent aside from smelling the neck of the bottle. yeesh, the taste does not mix well at all. tastes like bitter/sour blueberries, ashes, cedar wood. i was really hoping for a tasty midnight treat but this is almost undrinkable. i'm giving it a 2 for creativity - but really wish it had followed through with what i had in mind (a sweet fruity stout). for a 7.5% stout, the mouthfeel does not fit - it is a light bodied (MAYBE leaning towards medium bodied) very watery low carbonated ale.. more like a porter honestly.

overall i am not happy with this beer. luckily it has a high abv so it wasn't a total waste of money, but i do feel like i've been screwed with a little. i really hope the orange cream ale is a bit better than this one. the aftertaste is almost straight up wooden - which could be a good thing if it were a different wood than cedar which leaves its presence strongly.

This beer was served out of a 12oz. bottle dispensed into a glass....

Presentation - Very colorful label with nice artwork. Nice but nothing great.

Appearance - Pours out a deep dark brown with a 1 finger tan head head that dissipates rather quickly into a thin foam ring. Very little lacing left on the glass.

Smell - Smells of sweet blueberry with hints of chocolate and toasted malts. Smell is absolutely fabulous!

Taste - Tastes very heavy on the sweet blueberry and chocolate on the front end before giving way to a very nice toasted oat and coffee taste on the back end. Very well balanced.

Mouthfeel - Light bodied with not much carbonation but still retains a creamy mouthfeel.

Drinkability - Easy to drink because of the flavor and light bodied feel, however, I would classify this a bit of a dessert beer.

I enjoyed this offering overall and would try this again if I had the chance. As I've said I would classify this a bit of a dessert beer and that is not meant to be a derogatory observation.

This beer poured a very dark brown with a two-finger tan head that lingered for a while. Good on them for the smell, it actually smells like blueberries. Not the canned oversweetened pie filler kind, but the real fruit. The taste starts off with some sweet chocolately malt that is cut pretty quickly by a some blueberries and finishing off with a bit of coffee bitterness. The mouthfeel is thicker than average with some light carbonation. Overall an interesting beer and the only one I've seen in the style.

12oz bottle into snifter. Got this as an extra from Rizalini.

A: Pours a very dark brown with a billowing, thick, and fluffy light brown head. Wispy lace.
S: Very sweet and dominating notes of blueberry syrup and blueberry pie filling/pancake topping, with hint of doughy cake like malts. A bit synthetic smelling, but good.
T: I’m getting more of the base oatmeal stout in the taste than I did with the nose, and a few notes of roasted oats and dark malt are noticeable. The blueberries are even more synthetic tasting than the nose to the point where this beer tastes very chemically. I do get a few flavors of blueberry crumb cake, but for the most part this doesn’t taste natural. There is a vague hint of chocolate in the aftertaste.
M: Fizzy carbonation really bubbles up on my palate. Alcohol is noticeable in the finish. Body is medium-thick and the mouthfeel is greasy and a tad astringent.
O: Definitely not as bad as their pumpkin beer, and definitely not a drain pour, but this was just too chemically synthetic and sweet for me to really love it. Thanks for sharing though, Bryin, I have been meaning to try this.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass. Pours a dark brown and puts up a 1" tan head. Smells of blueberries (surprise, surprise) and mild chocolate, with the oats giving it a bready aroma. Taste is not that great. If I put a bunch of blueberries in my armpits and ran 10 miles and put the into a beer. This is what I think it would taste like. Somewhat bitter on the palate. Good carbonation. Not the stout I reach for if I got a hankerin' for one.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a thin off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains a lot of blueberries along with a little bit of roasted malts and chocolate but not much else.

T: The taste starts out the same way the smell would lead you to expect with a strong and sweet blueberry flavor. Then a light roasted malt character comes in along with some faint chocolate flavor. The hops presence is very mild as it which is expected in this type beer. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: A little crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is dry and slightly sticky.

D: Flavorful, goes down ok, not too filling, decent kick, not the best representation of style, this one is certainly more fruit-beer-like than stout-like, overall it’s just a mediocre beer.

look: 2.5 | smell: 3 | taste: 2.5 | feel: 2.5 | overall: 2.5

Appearance: Very dark brown/black with a very thin head that recedes quickly leaving behind minimal lacing.

Smell: Blueberries dominate the aroma along with oatmeal and a hint of banana.

Taste: Definitely some blueberry flavor but, unfortunately, it comes across as a bit synthetic. Moderate hop character. Not tasting too much of the oatmeal. Honestly, I'm a bit disappointed.

Mouthfeel: The carbonation is not right and gets in the way of the taste. The body is also much lighter than one expects from a stout.

Overall: This was not a terrible beer but it is certainly not something that I will be purchasing again.

A - super dark mahogany with ruby highlights. struggled to create a 1/2 finger but still nice deep tan color. A lot of carbonation but a bit fizzy.

S - Something sweet - too many months since blueberries were in season to compare but I'll assume that's what it is.

T - More nondescript sweetness with not a distinct flavor to be found. Hops tried to finish but it seemed to be just a confused combination of flavors.

M - Not bad but did not much matter at this point.

O - I had high hopes for this combination based on how well I thought they did with their pumpkin ale. It never really was as distinctive as it should have been.

Blueberry for sure. The appearance is very nice, dark and rich looking, after that... just goes down hill. The aroma is nice, smells like... blueberry. The taste like an unsweetened blueberry with a hit of what seems to be molasses. But goes down with a syrupy bitter stickiness. Not horrible but I think this is a one hit wonder in my book.

Enjoying this in the comfort of home. 12oz bottle into pint glass. Pours a hazy dark amber-brown color with two finger light caramel colored head that hangs out for a bit.

Nose: Fruit loops, slight roast, caramel, citrusy-acid, slight vegetal hop notes.

Taste: Trix cereal, extremely bitter, lemon-lime cleaning solution. Aftertaste is medicinal and sharply bitter with very faint cocoa notes.

Moderate carbonation with biting but long finish. Overall I'm pretty thrown off by the harsh aspirin-like bitterness in this beer. Don't know if it's old, a bad batch, or I'm just very sensitive to whatever flavor combinations exist in the beer. Won't seek out.

A: pretty much pitch black opaque body. one finger brownish white head looks frothy. retention is good and there is some lacing.

S: the aroma is a lot of sugar. some from the stout of it all and most from the fruit in there. the sources of lacto vary, but otherwise a bit one note. meh.

T: the flavor starts with the blueberries. sort of unpleasant. the transition is odd. a little metallic even. then quickly turns into a stout. roasted grain. chocolate. tons of sweetness

M: fizz is low. lazy. medium body.

D: i couldnt imagine drinking more than one of these. one sip is moderately pleasant, the next makes me cringe. i boo this offering. too much of a gimick then a beer.

look: 3.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 3 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: 1/3 inch head, opaque, dark brown in color, high carbonation

Smell: oats and blueberries—really interesting smell

Taste: chocolate, cream, and oats at first.. blueberry in the middle to the end—light coffee towards the end

Mouthfeel: medium/light body, sweetish start with a bitterness in the middle that becomes slightly more bitter to the end, medium carbonation

Overall: Interesting combination. I love the blueberries as they do not seem artificial as some blueberry taste can. Wish this was a bit less bitter, but I would still get it again. I prefer Dark Horse Tres as a similar beer though.

Pours a brown beer with a fleeing underfinger of light latte foam. The beer smells of - blueberry and oatmeal. Huh, spot on for the name. Tastes of - oats and peppercorns and some sweet cardboard. Once I've tasted it, when I smell it again, it's got a bit of a musty smell to it. Medium bodied with some lighter moderate carb. Meh.

Pours a thin black/brown with a tiny blue tinged mocha head that didn't last very long, wait, it's gone.

Smells strong of blueberry bread, not much roasted malt, and a bit of booze.

Taste is a flash of hop(wtf?) up front. A touch of the malt is present, but alcohol overrides most, and a blueberry finish/aftertaste.

Feels thin, bubby, burny, easily my least favorite aspect of the beer.

While thankfully not listed as a imperial, one should note that it definitely delivers on the blueberry. Easy to drink since it feels light, yet still has a good abv.

A-dark brown but if held to direct light it appears a dark burtn umber

S-blueberries are apparent as soon as the bottle is opened and really come out in the pour

T-metallic blueberry with some pepper not a lot of other flavors come through the metallic taste for me

M-medium body and good carbonation

O-I can't get by the metallic aftertaste in this one

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Look – jet black with about half a finger’s worth of dark khaki-colored foam that dissipates slowly.

Smell – actually, the blueberry aroma seems a bit allusive. It’s there, but masked behind the smell of stout and even a hint of chocolate.

Taste – again, the taste of blueberry isn’t quite noticeable, in fact, it seems less noticeable in the taste than in the smell. General dark taste of a stout, lacking some of the thicker qualities of an oatmeal stout, and tinged with more bitterness than I would have expected.

Mouthfeel – more on the creamier side, as one would have expected from a stout.

Overall – not a bad concept, but it seems a little half-hearted. I only say that due to the blueberry’s lack of presence. Had it been a little more prominent, this brew might gained a little more noteworthiness. Not at all bad tasting though.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. This pours a dark brown with a tan head. The smell is mostly of artificial blueberries. The feel is medium to light, lighter than most stout. The taste is okay, blueberries and bitter stout, but not something I'd get again.

Random pick at Beer Crazy.

It's a nice and cloudy dark red with a copious amount of foam. The aroma has a decent amount of blueberry and a bit of wheat. The taste is more wheat with the blueberry component more noticeable at the end but seeming kind of artificial. It's quite smooth and the 7.5% doesn't come on fast. It's decent.

A - Black in color but when held at light was transparent. Poured a small tan head with medium sized bubbles. The beer lacked any head after a short while that left the glass streak free.

S - Big blueberry nose, I find it to be a little bit of an extract smell but quite pleasing and natural as well. Very faint milk chocolate notes present.

T - There are some burnt coffee flavors trying to squeeze through but are overcome by the blueberry presence. Not completely one-sided though. Finishes dry which is a little surprising. The oatmeal gives the beer a silky start but is lost when the blueberry shows up.

M - Medium to full bodied with light carbonation.

O - I am a huge fan of oatmeal stouts and I am usually accepting of fruity experiment beers but this lacked many qualities of a good oatmeal stout. The blueberry was pleasant but on the side of overwhelming.
