Love this spot. Beer list is very good, with a wide-variety of draught (and vintage draught), bottles and vintage bottles. You're certain to find something you've never had before.

Where DBGB really excels is in service and cuisine. Being part of the Daniel Boulud empire has its perks. The menu is a high-end take on gastropub fare - yes, burgers will set you back $20-plus, but are they worth it? Unarguably yes. Service is exactly what you expect from one of NYC's most cherished chef/restaurateur. Bar servers know the beer list extremely well, and are great at pairing food with beer.

Definitely worth a visit when you want incredible beer, but also want and incredible meal, and don't want to settle for one or the other.

EDIT: Back this week for a biz trip, and low and behold - THREE Hill Farmstead Beers on tap. So quality!

The place can either be quiet or loud depending on the time of day and how busy the restaurant is... The space is fairly large with mirrored walls and the menu is written on them along with numerous interesting quotes - not sure if the quotes change as I always seem to be in a different section of the restaurant and looking at different ones. I enjoy the place because while it is upscale it does not come across as pretentious.

Beers have been well poured in proper glassware and at the proper temperature. They have all ben served to me with a proper amount of head for the style and tasted fresh.

The servers that I have experienced on my different visits have all been extremely professional, friendly, and knowledgeable about the beers and food.

They usually do not have the largest of draft/bottle selections available but what they do have is generally really good stuff. I have seen any number of harder to find beers available at DBGB including Hills Farmstead and Cantillion.

The food is excellent though upscale so do not expect extremely large portions.

Prices are a little high but this is an upscale restaurant not your local pub. I did find that the couple of times I stopped in, they had decent specials that involved the homemade sausage and beers for a good price.

I have also had the opportunity to attend a couple of different whole hog beer dinners that DBGB have hosted and those have been great events - wonderful food served family style with about 5 beers that are poured with the different courses. I would highly recommend the whole hog beer dinners to anyone that has a chance to attend as they are fun and enjoyable.

It was about time I stepped into DBGB! This place has been open for over three years now, and just how often do I walk by on my way to Whole Foods Bowery?

For some reason I decided to just go in and make it happen. Empty on a Tuesday afternoon-evening right before the dinner rush, about 5pm, late August in the city.

There's some outdoor seating on the Bowery, then the bar area and then a rather massive dining area. I wonder how many covers they do on an average night...

22 taps, divided on the menu as ale/lager/wheat and served in either small (175ml-330ml) or big (one fucking liter!).

Rarities: Hill Farrmstead Society and Solitude (just kicked when I visited), Jolly Luciernaga, To Ol Ov Ral from Denmark (10.4% DIPA from Denmark), Saison de Pipaix Vapeur, 2011 Dogfather Bourbon Barrel Stout, 2011 Peated Emelisse Rusian Imperial Stout... outstanding indeed!

Great beer descriptions and huge prices, but not as bad as a place like Cannibal. $8 for my glass of Dogfather, $11 for Hill Farmstead... and $30 for a liter of Hill Farm? Sure thing why not!

Esoteric lagers and wheats from Europe as well. Nice service at the bar, the bartender gave me some free beer samples, and when I asked for a piece of bread, he brought a whole basket with Vermont butter. Sweet...

The food menu is quite expansive and pig-centric. The charcuterie-sausage section is to die for! All made in house with heritage pork. I had the boudin basque- a beautiful piece of blood-and-pig's-head sausage.

One beer plus one sausage came up to 23 dollars plus tax and tip- almost 30 dollars. Cheap it is not, but so worth. I look forward to coming back here!

Until now, the Gramercy Tavern was, for me, the best "fine dining restaurant with a very good beer list" in New York. Still a fine place I am sure, but DBGB is in another league entirely.

Great atmosphere. The bar area is wide open with plenty of light and glass, comfortable two person cushions at the bar, with a number of low top tables. The dining room seems very cozy with banquettes tucked away on the side with two rows of tables in the middle. High ceilings, very open.

Our bartender was very warm and friendly, quick to offer a sample of any of the draft beers. The list was great, and unlike any other we saw the whole weekend. Society and Solitude from HFB was amazing, Local Option gose was terrific, Brooklyn Blast worked for our friend. Luciernaga and Founders Porter were quality choices as well. The bottle list is pricey, as is typical here in New York but if money is no object, a bottle of Sang Noir or 2011 Bon Chien can be yours.

Food was really a revelation. The Viennoiserie bread basket contained one delight after another. The Frenchie burger (burger with pork belly confit and tomato onion compote) was the best burger I have ever head. All three of us were similarly blown away. House made gelato, ice cream and sorbet for dessert. Just wow.

Not cheap, but worth every penny. When you're in the mood for this sort of experience (and usually pub grub is fine for us), go here.

The beer list was well presented and contained some nice selections not usually found. The beer menu was delineated by country and by draft/bottle. Prices were on par with the area. I was impressed with the numver of organic beers as noted in the beer list and on the labels. Service was quick & knowledgeable with beer & food. They were happy to pair a beer with your meal choice. The house made sausage was excellent & flavorable. Portions for food were a bit small for the price. Overall a fun atmosphere with vreat food & a solid beer list!

DBGB doesn't work, its glass and metal interior doesn't seem to fit with either the beer patrons or the wine patrons. Because of its location it draws heavily upon a crowd too young to know when enough is enough, rude college types for the most part. The bar area doubles as a pickup joint. One clever thing in DBGB's favor are the famous sayings engraved on the glass panels throughout. The neighborhood is seedy too, but if you do get down into this area be sure to visit the beer store at Whole Foods across Houston Street, a huge selection.

The beer and food quality are high.

Service is average.

The beer selection is solid, good beers on tap and in bottles. Usually a few hard-to-finds or never-seen-befores. Beers tend to be priced higher than average for NYC.

The food is excellent, some really neat combinations which go well with beer. But all the dishes are too small and expensive.

The atmosphere and food prices compromise DBGB. If you can afford the place I suggest going before 6 PM to avoid the crowd. This isn't the kind of place most beer lovers would be able to knock back a few and have a burger or steak.

I checked this place out with some friends on a whim...we had heard good things and wanted to try some rare beers. We walked in and were immediately embarrassed by our dress - we had been walking around the city and were in t-shirts and shorts. We were just going to leave, but the wait staff insisted that it didn't matter and sat us down. After sucking up the extremely high prices ($20 for a burger, $8 for a beer), we had an incredible meal.

The restaurant is beautiful, which, based on the website's inclusion of an "interior design" section, isn't surprising. After walking in, we walked down a short ramp and sat in the front section of the restaurant, which was comprised of 10 or so tables and a bar off to the side. A number of quotes from great thinkers wrapped the top of the wall. An open doorway passes into the next part of the restaurant, which consists of two rows of dark leather booths, bordered by shelves with various restaurant items (bottles, jars, etc). The shelves have no back and the kitchen is partially visible through them. Very cool. Due to the price the atmosphere is high end. No hooligans - come for a peaceful, delicious meal and great beer. This would be a great place for a date.

The service was great - good recommendations, and the staff was willing to go out of their way. While DGBG didn't offer a ton of beers on top, they had a couple choices from each category, and these options were, well, superior. Every beer is world class. We had a bunch and shared a few sips here and there, and every brew was one of the best we'd ever tried. I don't know who tracks down these beers from all over the US and Europe, but they do a phenomenal job.

The food is also incredible. I had "The Frenchie," which was a huge patty topped with BBQ pulled pork, a bunch of kickass sauces, and some other charcuterie. I can honestly say this is one of the best burgers I've ever had - and I've had a $30 burger (this one was $19, and worth every penny).

In short, go here. Just dress decently, and be willing to get a little buzzed - if you're not, you'll be missing out on some incredible beers.

We’d been talking about this for a bit but it was Saturday opening talk, not blowing out of work early Friday for 5 which this is, and on Gate Night Eve no less. So lemme get this straight; Daniel Boulud’s new sugar shack is in a stretch where CBGB once was, and he’s playing off the name with DBGB ‘cause it’s nearly the exact same thing. So he launches onto the beer scene and bumps its real estate way uptown. Have I missed anything so far? Yes, apparently plenty. I must admit that it wasn’t like I thought it’d be...

The large front room is a hall of windows and mirrors all around, with quotes and the like written in white (Ben Franklin, Zappa, Louis Pasteur, Groucho Marx, Dorothy Parker, Oscar Wilde, all the players). Through and to the bar at the far end, “L” shaped wood & stainless steel topped, with seating on 2-people leather benching for the share. The barback wall of mirrors holds 4 looong shelves with booze, glassware, and random bottlings & cans. Pumpkins a-glowing, a center Choufferine & St Feuillen 9L bottles bookending the top shelf. The bar & raw bar menu printed on the mirrors around this. 2 bar towers of 12 on the barback counter below to both sides of center, glassware tucked behind and alongside. There’s a large pumpkin & gourd display right next to me on the end, and I was told not to touch the dry ice there within, like I would have (I totally would have).

A dozen tables round and baby round, and some ‘tangles extending away from the bar in rows, running around the pillars and bordered by a wraparound ramp below the forward windows over Bowery. Like I said, lots of windows and mirrors, and what appears to be a 2 toned gray ceiling, though it has begun the dimming of the day. A clean, well lit room; baby spots over the bar, and the bar & tables lit with small glass candles.

The Rear dining room holds kitchenings which “L” the room. 2 rows of 8 boothings with tables in between hugging the center pillars, and 6 booths nooked up on the far side. Concrete floors and dark wood furniture.The décor is shelving units of provisions: beans, spices, sauces, wines, foodings, plus shiny copper pots & pans. It’s pretty intense back there. Too intense for me. You get that if you get me. If not, than not.

Food. We played the small plate game. I started with the Tuna Crudo, cubed harissa-sesame sauce, cucumber radish slivers, really crispy rice, and some greenings atop, it was wonderful. Ben had a pair of fresh Florida stone crab claws, which he ate, shells and all. Round 2, I played sausage roulette. I was thinking something spicy, as opposed to sweet, smoky and/or cheesy, and opted for the Toscane (Italian sausage with braised fennel & tomato, chili & garlic), which was excellent. Ben was going to go with the veal tongue (he can go elsewhere with that), but switched up to the Rillette de Jamboneau Provencal (pulled ham hock of crazy), in a charcuterie spread. Round 3, I went at the house made Cavatelli pasta, with laughing bird shrimp, sauce americane, baby spinach, and tomato confit. It was very good. Ben & (recent arrival) Beth split the Frenchie burger, a 6 ounce beef burger with confit pork belly, arugula, tomato-onion compote, peppered brioche buncornichon, mustard, morbier cheese. At $17,he said it may have been worth just that.

And drink. It’s a handsome list of 2 dozen taps, a pair of which pour wine, the remainder a split almost evenly between mostly better than not imports (Thornbridge Jaipur IPA, St Germain Page 24 Reserve Hildegarde Blonde, Steenbrugge Tripel, Maredsous Brune, Schlenkerla Helles, Kostritzer Schwarzbier, Hitachino Nest White, Schneider Weisse, Dubuisson Peche Mel Peach), and good American craft beer (McNair/Stone/Ballast Point collaboration San Diego County Session, Cigar City Maduro Oatmeal Brown, Sixpoint Otis, Ommegang Zuur & BPA, Founders Harvest, Peak Organic Maple Oat, Green Flash West Coast IPA, Stone 101010, Shmaltz Coney Island Mermaid Pils, Ballast Point Rocktoberfest, 2 Brothers Atom Smasher Oktoberfest, and the beer on special, disgusting fuckin’ Southern Tier Pumking, running $8 for a 250ml glass, a buck per ounce of pain). I drank the Cigar City Maduro Oatmeal Brown, Founders Harvest & Schlenkerla Helles. Beer was fresh & clean.

Nearly 4 dozen bottles selections, ¼ of them American craft, another ¼ of them Belgianesque, and the remainder being beers of the world, naturally heavier on the German & UK sides of things. Upwards of 200 wines, high end booze, etc.

We like bartender Derek, and have decided after little deliberation that he may stay. He likes the Stone 101010, doesn’t like the Pumking, he knows his game, ‘nuff said. They’ve got a good crowd, light this early, although suddenly there’s a rush of people, suits are suiting on me (Ewwww). Seems they’re playing tunes just for me, totally my internal soundtrack. Food was excellent, drink was on its game, too. Pricey, but whatever, the place was awesome. I do dig and would totally go back. Oh, Bowery.

Went to DBGB Kitchen and Bar in New York City last week for the second time and enjoyed it even more that I did a year ago.

The vibe is a very hip scene with a clean industrialized feel to the place, which has been bustling and jam packed on both occasions that I went. The place looks like half restaurant and half store since the shelving is stocked with pans, beer, wine and glassware is a very organized and cool way. Feels like you are eating at Pottery Barn with an amazing kitchen and a world class beer selection.

The quality of the food and beer was remarkable on both occasions; last week, the party I was with went all out and ordered most of the sausage appetizers on the menu as well as every type of burger for the entrée's; there were a couple of other entrée's, like fish and lamb, that were ordered and got rave reviews, but I must say that my burger and fries were excellent. I had the Piggie and it was great, and went well with the Duvel Triple Hop we were drinking at the time. Last time here I had the Frenchie burger, which was also excellent...two for two.

Our waiter and the wait staff were excellent, and while always around they were not annoying. We had the special treat of being serviced by the beer sommelier, whose name escapes me, but I will say she was excellent on both visits. She went over the extensive beer menu with our party, made great suggestions and even made sure we kept the beloved Bogedal flowing. For no other reason, going to DBGB is worth it to have a burger and one of the two Bogedal beers.

The beer menu was great, as there was ample local representation, over 10 beers on tap and a list of very hard to find beers from around the world. If price is no object then come here for a few great beers as we had Brooklyn Main Engine Start on draft, a few bottles of the Duvel Triple Hop, the Bogedal No. 136 and a few bottles of the Bogedal No. 156. All said and done, the beer tab alone was $400, so be prepared to spend money or go on an expense account as this place is not cheap. It's excellent all around, but quite pricey. Worth the visit!

So this Daniel Boulud's newest spot, I think it's sort of dumb to rip off the CBGB name as a "tribute." Very self serving.

Outdoor bar area is all glass stained with various quotes about beer and drinking. Cute, unoriginal but cute. Decor is actually nice, ok bar and lounge area, over twenty taps here sporting beers from all over the world as well as craft. I like the fact that he has craft beers by country not just beers. It was cool to see some local breweries from Denmark and not just Carlsberg for instance. Beers were very expensive, starting at 6 a pint. Woah is all I could say. Nice selection but you will pay for it. I had a Pietra and a Full Sail Session Lager, both were excellent.

Food and dining area is in the back, has tables and booths which are nice and provide a private element to the meal. Menu is eclectic, this is Bouldud's take on a burger bar so there are burgers, hot dogs, fries, etc all with his own flavor combinations and meats. Sausages are available in a wide variety.For those not inclined to this sort of thing he did have nicer options like duo of lamb, along with many salads.

The food was excellent, my burger was wonderful (had the "Porkie") and went well with my beer. Oh and there is obviously a full bar for the non-beer types.

Service was fine if impersonal, bartenders took their time. Waiter was good.

So overall, a nice restaurant, as for the BeerFly, you should come here if you want a great meal as well as a good beer and also if you are trying to find beer you've never had. The selection is top notch. Just be prepared to pay through the nose for it.

Quality at a heavy price.

The DBGB Kitchen & Bar is one of the latest additions in restauranter, Daniel Boulud's, international empire. As with his other offerings, it's trendy, upscale, and has a lot of character.

The place really tries to look like an upscale gastropub with a touch of international flair -- and it largely succeeds. The atmosphere is very vibrant but low key. Everything from the rustic, hand-carved looking chairs (surprisingly comfortable), to the mirrored walls with gigantic quotes, to the shiny bar area, to the back room with an open kitchen looks splendid.

I was most worried about the beer selection. However my fears were soon assuaged when I learned that they had 24 on tap (mostly ales with a few lagers) and about 40 or so bottles from the U.S., Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, and the Netherlands. I personally tried the Well's "bombadier" English bitter, the Aecht Schlenkerla Helles lager, and the St. Bernardus Tripel (all on tap). There are prodigious offerings from Captain Lawrence, Sixpoint, and Brooklyn as well as several hard to find belgians (though St. Bernardus, Achel, Orval, and Chimay are all in attendance as well).

The food was a more upscale take on gastropub fare, and it was delicious. The various sausages are probably the best route (I had lamb), though I also tried the spicy calamari which wasn't bad. French fries are crunchy and tasty, and there are various hearty sides. Desserts also seemed quite good. I had a mint-chocolate sunday, which had heaps of whipped cream, belgian chocolates, and creamy ice cream.

Ask to be seated in the pub-style back area, dinner is a lot busier than lunch, and ask the knowledgeable waitstaff for tips on the beer. I was impressed that the drinks were served in the proper glassware, and that the servers made informed suggestions. All and all a bit pricey (2 appetizers, 2 main, 1 dessert, and 3 beers came out to about $100 for two people), but totally worth it for a splurge. Long live craft beer, and kudos to DB for promoting the movement so gracefully.

The DB here stands for Daniel Boulud as this is the sort of gastropub outpost in his multi national empire. Situated on the Bowery (3rd ave) just above Houston St, DBGB is in a good location for pre or post dinner activities on the Lower East Side, East or West Village. The name itself is a reference to the legendary music venue CBGBs which used to reside near by. The atmosphere is definitely upscale but not so in a stuffy sort of way. There is a decent sized bar in the front where you can wait for your tables and a fairly big backroom with booths as well. The approach here is a sort of upscale pub with hooks to hang your coats and an open kitchen. Above the fray sit the pots of various other famous chefs that were apparently donated to the cause.

As a gastropub I was unsure of how much focus would be on the beer but my fears were unfounded. The seperate beer menu is divided fairly well between good examples of different styles. The interest here is in pairing the beers with the food and the excellent wait staff are knowledgeable and have good suggestions. Foreign and domestic selections are varied enough to please both the novice and the aficionado. There is a good tap selection (around 20) with a cask offering and an extensive bottle collection. Locals are represented well with a couple of taps devoted to Captain Lawrence, Sixpoint and Brooklyn. Other US beers included Elysian, Allagash, Slyfox and Troegs to name a few. The imports were mostly Belgian and German with a few Brits thrown in for good measure. Bottlewise they seem to have some good rarities including some beers especially made for them by Brooklyn and Sixpoint.

The beers though only represent part of the equation at a place like this. The appetizers and small plates outnumber the entrees so my friends and I decided to make a meal out of them. There is a focus on house made charcuterie and sausages. While pricey most of these were good, the standouts being the Tunisiene sausage and the blood sausage. Other dishes that were winners included the veal tongue, bone marrow and pigs head terrine. While most of the dishes were good the only issue I had were some were underseasoned which could have been a result of an off night. Some of the main dishes as well as the burgers looked good on other people's tables.

The draft beers themselves ranged from $7 to $15 (mostly on the lower end of the scale). Bottled beers however is where you could get in trouble as there were a number of larger bottles priced above $40 and some going up over the $100 mark. However the draft selection is good enough where you don't have to go too crazy if you are on a moderate budget. The food itself is pricey yet not outrageous for the quality and the setting. If there was a ranking between a bit pricey and very expensive, this would rank there.

As a whole DBGB is a good experience. Good beer paired with good food in a nice yet comfortable setting. While not a weekly place, DBGB makes for a nice splurge. The menu changes frequently so check the website before you go to see what they have.

The DB in this stands for Daniel Bouloud, the well known high end chef of Restaurant Daniel, DB and many others. The GB is from the GB in CBGB, as the restaurant is on the lower east side. The place is amazing. The menu is highlighted by many sausage dishes from all over the world, including is take on the traditional American Hot Dog. There are also a few very high end burgers, featuring Fois Gras on one and pulled pork on another. There are numerous local drafts including Six Point, Brooklyn, and Captain Lawrence and can be purchased as a pint or as a litre, which includes an individual keg/flask to pour into a snifter glass from. The bottle list is incredible, featuring many many belgians, some of the vintage.

An amazing place and one that everyone should visit if in New York City.
