Strong bourbon taste. Aromas of toffee, alcohol and coffee. Great roundness, very creamy. Small bitterness in final with traces of black chocolate and anise.

Acquired in the latest CANBIF, this was my final sample of the evening. It is rich, with coffee and dark chocolate wrapping around the bourbon. Not the most amazing stout I've experienced, but this definitely did not disappoint.

On tap at Winter Warmer: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice dark brown foamy head. Aroma of intense roasted malt with nice black chocolate notes makes this a very appealing beer. Taste is a solid match between some black chocolate notes with some roasted malt with are somewhat dry but also offset some of the sweetness. Body is full with a nice creamy smooth texture and some good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Very well brewed and something I would like to have access to on a regular basis.

Picked the beer for two reason; highly recommended at espace houblon and with the Soviet symbol just to tease my wife.... a former soviet herself.

Poured a thick beer which reminded me of molasse. Pitch black with a thick foamy coffee head.

Smell is roasted coffee, sugar and oak.

Taste is sweet, cherry like with a shy caramel and coffee burnt. Shy oaked finish but very smooth in mouth.

A nice suggestion

Picked up a 500ml for $8 Canuck in June 2015. Split into two mini balloon tulips.

Pour has good head a finger or two of foam. Dark with reddish brown highlights.

Nose is mostly chocolate, some dark fruit, maybe orange, and light English ale driven esters. Minimal oak and bourbon.

Taste is immediatly milk chocolate and lightl broasted coffee. Then a darker chocolate mixes with some light bourbon and oak on the back end, really minor/complementary though. More expressive ale yeast character throughout, maybe plum.

Feel is only medium, perhaps a bit thin for the style. Carb is medium, again, perhaps a bit high. Drying chocolate flavor that is nice.

Overall much better than I expected, but room for improvement.

Well, it's been a while since I did a review, good beer to get back in the game.

A: This is really thick. Honestly, I wasn't expecting this level of thickness from a micro that is barely unknown (well, at least to me). Also, very dark, pitch black. Good amount of head, which is mocha colored with solid retention, soapy ish type of bubbles.

S: Now, a bit disappointed by the smell, it's very subtle. But the little there is, it's pretty good. Lots of powdery cacao, vanilla, smoke, bourbon and a tiny bit of leather. Light amount of alcohol fruits (dark red fruits with raspberries and overly ripe cherries).

T: Just like the smell, wayy too light for an imperial stout. But, like the smell, the little there is is very tasty. Nutty notes, powdery cacao, vanilla, smoke, bourbon, leather, pepper. Again, the fruits are there. I know I'm repeating myself, but it follows the nose really really well.

M: Super light, again for the style. Too much carbonation and at the same time too sticky. Weird, and definitely not appropriated for the style.

O: Well, it's not a really bad beer, it's definitely drinkable, and definitely decent. But at 15$ the bomber, it's definitely EXTREMELY overpriced for what it is, even more considering you can get a bigger bottle of Porter Baltique for 7.99$. Anyway...

From Peluso in Montreal. Awesome label. From notes.

A - Black pour with a three finger luscious khaki creamy head. Great lace spatterings and a finger of retention.

S - Woody, bourbon, chocolate, sweet vanilla. Nice and complex. Good aroma.

T - Strong bourbon note, woody, some milder chocolate, lot's of woody bourbon. More barrel than beer it seems. Chocolate, roast.

M - Nice mild-ish carbonation, dry bourbon finish with a bit of heat, frothy full body.

O/D - The barrel added quite a bit to the beer. I was a bit torn on it b/c of the strong barrel influence. Can't say it was the greatest barrel aged stout b/c of it's overwhelming influence, but it was definitely interesting.

Black beer with a nice 1-inch head. But the smell, oh the smell! It starts with a nice chocolate aroma then you get hit by the bourbon and alcohol smell. There's some coffee too. Similar taste, lots of chocolate and bourbon. A really interesting beer.

Thanks to David for this bottle. Bottled on Nov 3, 2012. Poured in to snifter.

A - Black with a huge amount of medium brown head.

S - Roast, chocolate, anise and lighter wood and vanilla notes. The barrel is very muted in those nose.

T - A massive roast profile with some oak woodiness is accompanied by hints of dark chocolate, anise and a touch of vanilla. No bourbon comes through at all.

M - Medium body with very high carbonation. The carbonation levels detract from the mouth feel.

Poured from a bomber into a stemmed tulip glass.

A: Very black and opaque with a massive, bubbly mocha that falls fast to a thin collar. The head is so large and airy, it suggests over-carbonation issue.

S: Lots of big roasted malt, black, bitter hops; maybe some hints of chocolate. No real booze aroma.

T: The flavor profile is almost completely dominated by dark roasted malt, some related chocolate notes. Not much residual sweetness from a heavy grain bill and is dry and borderline astringent. Very slight boozy/bourbon flavors. Relative to other bourbon barrel ages Russian imperial stouts, this is fairly one-dimensional.

M: Medium body and extreme carbonation which is way too high and distracting from the beer. The body was subsequently too thin, especially for the style.

O: If the carbonation was under control, then this would be a decent RIS, but there is very little boozy/bourbon notes and no real added complexity. There are lots of great dark roasted flavors but the over-carbonation and thin body steal what little depth had been developed.
