I have driven past this place on my way to work countless times and just expected it to be a macro beer and soda joint, but yesterday, on a day off, I was passing by and decided to give it a go.

It turned out to be a good decision. They have a good selection of craft beer from a wide variety of breweries both domestic and imports. Far too many names to mention, but Sierra Nevada, Ithaca, Avery, Southern Tier, Sam Smiths, Corsendonk, Sam Adams, West Coast, Legacy, Lagunitas, Ommegang, Weybacher, Stone, were all represented amongst the ones that I can recall, but there were plenty more besides.

There were a lot of bombers from different breweries, most priced at $5.49, for those who like trying something out before plunging in with a larger investment. I tried Hop Stoopid from Lagunitas ($4.99). Some of the more prestigious bombers, like the Stone line were about a dollar more. Prices in general were reasonable, I picked up a sixer of Sierra Nevada Torpedo for $8.99, which is what I would expect to pay on Long Island. They also offered deals on certain beers - you could get 3 Polish beers for $5, I was almost tempted by the Okocim Porter at 8.10% - it's a decent beer! - maybe next time.

I really didn't expect anything much at all from this store, but since this turns out to be the nearest place to my house with good quality beer, I guess I'm going to be channeling most of my beer fund towards this place.

I go to this place once a week, it's less than five min away from me. For craft beers the selection is limited but prices are good. Langunitas, Innis and Gunn, Long Trail, your usual Belgians, and a small bomber selection. It's kind of a dumping ground for random stuff where the distributors pray it will sell. It's mostly the standards from ABInbev, Millercoors, Corona, and Boston Brewing.

They have 3/$5 on the odd Czech beers which is nice, and the LI breweries have some presence. Unfortunately there's no tap system for growlers.

The guys who work here are excellent the old guy who walks at about a 45 degree angle from his waist is funny as hell and always rings you up telling you how much it costs in pennies. Mike (aka mountain man) is a wonderful guy, knows is beer really well and always asks how my wife is which is funny considering he's never met her! (we got our beer for the wedding here, coming up on our 2 year as of October 31).

One of the fun things is that they have a decent selection of "brown bag beers." Any size can is available in single can, and it's so far the only place I've found that carries Ballentine XXX Ale (a HST favorite). I'm kind of a glutton for punishment in this area, my opinion is you cannot appreciate the best beers if you don't occasionally have total crap. Which is why I'll grab a Cobra, Colt45, or a Schlitz HG.

Overall I really like this place, always something random and good, always something that's a standard, and always something that can put me in my place and remind me why i drink good beer!

Closest store to me. I go here when I don't need anything special. The guy with the beard and the old guy are helpful, and sometimes entertaining, Both are very nice. The bearded guy knows a good amount about beer. They will point out the "good stuff" when it comes in. I enjoy talking with them.
That said, Selection is okay. They have the craft beer essentials, but are not very extensive. Good enough for the regular get-together, not so much for the beer geek get-together.
While the guys are fine. The people hanging around there are kind of scary. More than once I have been asked for money by people outside. It's not the cleanest place, but not the worst either. If you need a bunch of mainstream beer at once, the prices are pretty good.

This is one of my semi-regular places that I just happen to go to on my way to the pet store...

A couple of fridges and shelves with micros but mostly a macro place. Beer is well kept but not overly so and sometimes you'll find stuff that's been sitting around.

Service is rather good. Mountain man (the guy with the huge beard) really knows his beer and if he can't get it, usually he'll offer to order it for you. The guys there are all relatively nice and are all more than willing to help you out.

Selection is not too impressive. If its a mainstream macro from the area, you'll usually be able to find it but nothing else really. A good selection of Blue Point, Brooklyn Brewery, Keegan, and Stone, but really not much else. A couple of dusty German brews that I'm not too sure of have been sitting on the shelf forever.

The reason really to go here is for the price. If its a mainstream micro, this place'll usually have it for cheap.

The go to place for something simple and easy to find at a good price. Worth a visit if you know what you're looking for and what you're looking for isn't too extravagant.
