10oz draft pour at the Fishers small batch brewery. Served cold in a snifter. The beer pours bright dark brown in color with light brown head. The head recedes to a fluffy ring. There is some nice Belgian lace left behind. The aroma is semisweet bourbon, with big vanilla and toffee character. The taste is mild bourbon and dark malt with an oaky, vanilla finish. Sweet but not cloying with a moderately bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, adequately carbonated and mostly dry in the finish. Overall, very good. The flavor is great if not overly complex. The feel is a bit thin but the bourbon touch is nice and complements the base.

Full pint into prairie 2nd anniversary glass.

Black in color. Little head.

Very rich and thick. Lots of toffee and raisins. Molasses and brown sugar. The bourbon and oak come through a lot with notes of vanilla. Dried red apples.

Full bodied. Thick. Nice carbonation. Maybe a tad too much. Ends a little dry but clean.

Great beer. Underrated.

L- Dark filtered with a fine head that quickly fades.
S- A nice bourbon and malty toffee aroma
T- A really nice, not overdone Bourbon flavor balanced against the the traditional malty toffee flavor of the Scotch Ale, that gives way to hints of molasses, caramel apple, brown sugar, vanilla, and oak.
F- Pleasantly light, not too sticky sweet.
O- Another really nice Sun King BA effort. This was apparently a Silver Medal Winner under another name that had to be discontinued due to trademark issues. Based upon a Gold Medal winning recipe.

On tap at the brewery poured into a plastic 10 ounce cup. Based on the description of the beer I have to use Wulver and Backwoods Bastard as the benchmarks. The look and aroma were very nice but the body and mouthfeel were on the thin side and the taste was very hot and boozy. I'm really not sure if age will mellow this out enough to make it better.

Dark pour ruby tinges in the light. Aggressive pour leaves no head, just a ring. Smells marvelous. Some cherries up front. Dark fruits. Strong bourbon. Vanilla caramel, kind of some chocolate too. Lots of levels. On the taste, some chocolate up front. The bourbon, some vanilla caramel. Not as much of that dark fruit character. Some burnt sugar. A carbonation level that kind of pops in your mouth. Feels slick. Overall. This is fantastic. Probably my second favorite of the sun king reserve beers. (Whip Fight is just too delicious.) This can is 5 months old or so now. Drinks so well. A + Sun King.
