Poured an excellent deep orange with some nice head and a bit of nice lacing. Great deep malty scents with caramel tinges and a bit of spiciness from the hops. Very nice flavors, with excellent crystal malts that gave it a great thick and sweet caramel flavor with hints of toffee, as well as a nice light spicy noble hop finish. Went down very well, if slightly thick. Had on tap at the Rathskeller, 20 ounce pour.

"Rathskeller Amber is a smooth, malty American Amber Ale. It has a rich caramel malt character that is balanced by German Noble Hops. It is brewed exclusively for the Rathskeller Restaurant, which is Indianapolis' premier German Restaurant and Beer Hall."

And by "exclusively" they mean "really, totally exclusively," since you can't even get growlers of this at the brewery. That's a shame, too, since a growler refill cost 50 cents less than a 20-oz draw at the Rathskellar, but that's neither here nor there.

Pours brown for an amber, a very gimlet-looking body with that nice, delicate foam.

Smells fruity, medium malty. Like a cross between a light, bready amber and a slightly sour brown.

Tastes starts with large, juicy sourness, like a pink Starburst candy, and this dissolves quickly into a profile that's more traditionally beery, mostly medium-roast malt with some light nodes of ash. Nice, complex, and highly quaffable.

Got this in a growler from the brewery, drank about a week later.

A - Pours a decent head but it goes away to leave a little coating. This was my biggest problem with the beer. Could have been from the growler though.

S - Pretty much smells like a normal amber ale.

T - Great amber ale taste. Was a little weak out of the growler but still very good, but I think it was just the growler as the tasting was a bit better. Could and will drink a lot of this beer.

Really liked this one, another great Sun King brew.

big thanks to my buddy kent for grabbing me a growler during the (apparently) one-time, two-day holiday allowance for growler fills on this one.

poured cold and a bit too aggressively from a 12 day old growler a crisp translucent copper to a sun king shaped pint glass with a 2+ finger long lasting super foamy head with nice lace.

nice sweet malty aroma, slightly fruity after.

wow. big brown sugars way up front, dark caramels, subtle dark nuts and a hint of smokiness in the wayback.

big bodied, smooth and creamy, super sweet. great big malty beer.

drinkable - yep, very, however much you have.

Poured from a growler purchased today from the brewery in to a shaker glass.

A: Pours a translucent copper color with a creamy off-white head. Slight lacing down the side of the glass.
S: Caramel sweet smell that is "just about right."
T: Sweet tasting with some caramel in there. Nice fruity-sweetness to the aftertaste. That sweetness makes me want to keep on sipping.
M: Very smooth across the tounge. Very easy to drink.
O: Nice beer and reasonably priced for being one of Sun King's "Specialty" beers.
