Poured a very nice deep copper with fantastic head and nice lacing. Nice malty scent up front, followed by a walloping hop hit with floral and some citrus and spicy undertones. Huge malt sweet flavor with hints of toffee immediately followed by huge hop flavors, mostly floral and piney and with some citrus tones underneath. Very thick to drink, but nicely balanced overall.

Edit: on tap at McNivens, and was told it is an imperial ESB.

Dark copper with a nice white head. Nothing in the flavor or aroma conveys its fairly high ABV. Actually, as a matter of fact, as I was drinking it I thought it was an excellent (albeit quite Americanized) example of the sessionable ESB's that are so popular in Britain.

As it true with most of Sun King's beers, the yeast profile is excellent, and it really carries the beer through. Tastes pretty basic: bread, caramel, American hops. But the balance between those three nodes is stellar, and it's because the yeast ties everything together so well. The bread is, just, really nicely bready--more of a fresh-baked loaf than something of Sun Beam variety. The caramel malt pops strongly, too, and these hold up well enough against the hops that the beer is much more flavorful than your average ESB.

Please note that this is an Imperial ESB, not a DIPA.

Served in a nonic pint.

A: Pours a mostly clear, dark copper color. Thick, two-finger off-white head settles down to a half finger and lingers throughout the session. Retention and lacing here are top notch.

S: Creamy, bready malt, roasted grain, and light piney hops. Maybe just a touch of citrus zest and some sweet grains. Definitely on the lighter side. Like a hopped up Marzen. Good.

T: Loads of sweet malt, some roasted biscuit, and some light citrus hops. Not boozy in the least. A thick, creamy, smooth ESB that has a pleasant bitterness on the back end. Very well balanced and not overly complex. Well done.

M: Well-balanced, light carbonation, flavors are all well-integrated. It's incredibly easy drinking for an Imperial version, which I appreciate. Good hop presence, lingering bitterness, and smoothness/sweetness from the malts.

O: A very nice ESB here. It's smooth, crisp, and light, but hits all the right notes. For an Imperial ESB, I'd expect some more hop presence, but what this one has is nice. This and Sweetwater Motor Boat have to be the two best I've had. Definitely try this one if the opportunity presents itself.
