A. Poured into a fairly clear, plastic hotel cup (hopefully a new one...). A gold orange with a finger of soapy, ivory head. Looks like the real deal.

S. Dried mango ...that stuff that's more sugar than fruit from Costco. Some papaya and other tropical fruits. A little dankness, and some caramel candy. Damn. Like desert.

T. Caramel and sweet, lightly tangy citrus. Dried (and sweetened) tropical fruits. Not super sweet but the flavours are candy-like ...I know, half the shit I say doesn't make sense, even to me. Gfys, that's what comes to mind. It's somewhat awesome, lets say that, but not as awesome as the smell.

M. Almost full bodied. Astringent, more from the hops than booze maybe (??). Some booze and green fresh hops dry the tongue as well.

O. Great stuff. Tempted to let the other bottle I have sit a few weeks or more to see if this mellows out a bit. Might be a challenge to finish a bomber in one siting but I'm at the Great Wolf Lodge (you parents know...) and this beer is really helping out my attitude today.

This is mangoes dipped in honey. Remarkable balance and smoothness from a monster approaching 12%.

22oz bottle served in a Belgian ale (tulip) glass. Beer pours brilliant golden amber in color and easily forms a sizable white head. The aroma is straight ahead West coast IPA: floral and piney. The flavor, too, features an intense load of hoppy bitterness, accompanied with a tropical/fruity secondary note. I get a decidedly pineapple flavor more than anything else. As promised by the label's purported 100+ IBUs, this beer is seriously hoppy. Not an every day drinking kind of beer, but truly an impressive offering from my locals over at Fremont.

Poured into a Fremont pint glass. Pours a slightly hazy, medium coppery amber with a one finger off-white head with great retention and lacing. Nice aroma of tropical fruit, caramel malt and light citrus rind, hints of pine. Flavor is dominated by piney, resiny hops with tropical fruit, orange family citrus, candied citron, light caramel malt. Medium bodied with active carbonation, nice mouth feel. Although the malt is in the background here, it is more than up to supporting the intense, resiny hops in this big IPA, resulting in a satisfying balance between citrus, sweet and big hops. Not surprised at all that this is really good right from the start and will only get better as this beast kicks in. As others have noted, this is almost a after dinner dessert apertif, with lots of fruit, citrus and hop bitterness. Glad I was able to land a bottle of this. Fremont delivers again.

Almost too balanced. This beer is very easy to drink, especially for nearly 12% ABV. But that's what I don't like about it. The hops are present on the nose, but overly balanced on the palate. It doesn't taste enough like an IPA let alone a triple IPA. The mouthfeel is also lacking.

Maybe I've got a bottle that wasn't handled very well and the flavor is suffering, but if this is it, I'd rather have The Brother, by far.

For a concise and apt description of this beer, it's hard to beat Kurmaraja's "mangoes dipped in honey." But I'll go a little further and say it's marmalade-stuffed mangoes dipped in honey and sprinkled with dried papaya shavings...
