Sweet molasses, bourbon soaked dark fruits/raisins, and a very subtle barrel nose on this one! Taste follows with a very smooth and balanced, caramel malty, and an integrated bourbon barrel finish. Wow! This has held up extremely well for being from 2019! As it warms, just a touch of oxidation/age starts to show up, but it is very minimal. This is delicious!

22oz. Waxed and capped bomber into a Side Project snifter.

Pours a dark, clear mahogany. No lace or head. Thin, oily legs. Nose is barrel, molasses, raisin, prune, and other dried dark fruit. Caramelized brown sugar. Beer opens molasses, brown sugar, sticky caramel. Raisin and prune in the middle. More brown sugar. Oak and pancake syrup at the end. Barrel presence accents the finish. Body is full with low carbonation. Slick and oily on the palate and goes down slightly hot and messy. Long, lingering aftertaste.

This one's really held it's own through time. Pretty impressive.

I've had 6k and 5k fresh and 5k around a year old, loved them all. This is tasting fantastic right now, glad I get to try this with some age on it. It is more fruit forward than the others I've tried. There is still plenty of caramel, toffee, vanilla, and bourbon to be sure. But the raisin is more pronounced and there is a lovely plum pudding note here. I'm also getting some maple syrup at the finish. The carbonation is light but this beer has great legs and a wonderfully sticky body. Hard to imagine this improving from here, if you have one I'd say open it relatively soon.

Incredible English BW, on tap for Dark Days at Bittercreek in Boise. Hazy amber/brown with minimal khaki head. Sweet booze on the nose and palate, just incredibly well integrated at this age; caramel, rum-soaked raisins, toffee and brown sugar, earthy vanilla and oak, malty, bready, smooooooth.

Poured from a bottle (02Mar2019) into a small festival taster

L: pours a clear dark amber brown (too dark to see through the middle) with a bare minimum of foam at the edge. The slightest bit of slow visible carbonation at the edge as well. No lacing, not seeing much in terms of legs either

S: inviting nose, rich and sweet malty aroma. Get figs, raisins, chocolate, caramel. A bit of bourbon barrel and vanilla. A hint of cinnamon or something similar as well. Again sweet but fitting; not not much abv heat on the nose

T: follows the nose well, liquid sticky pudding the first impression. Solid dessert flavors but not in the pastry stout sense. Figs and raisins on the fruit front, plays well with that sweet toffee-esque note. There’s a nice baking chocolate flavor that comes through toward the finish - helps cut through some of the initial sweetness. Abv works well, warming as I sip but not boozy - comes through more as it warms. Overall find the flavor lacks a little something in complexity, but it’s very good

F: medium body, light+ carbonation. There’s a slick feeling to the swallow, but it’s not super viscous or full

O: very tasty, rich barleywine. Checks the aroma and flavor boxes - happy to sip on it, would have liked some more depth but outstanding nonetheless

Pours a dark plum burgundy with transparency (albeit, dark enough it's not easy to see through). Head is half a finger of khaki foam. This is an aged bottle, which would explain the lack of foam. Aroma is raisins, fig, plum, molasses, and toffee. These really come in like a shotgun blast, with little bursts of flavor here and there. Slightly muddled, but really just well folded together. Flavor profile is raisins, fig, plum, molasses, toffee, and candied sugar. Big time sweetness, but with just enough heat from the alcohol to keep it in check. That's not to say it's "hot" at all, in contrary, the heat is subtle enough to maintain the balance, while also announcing it's presence. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a full and creamy texture. Overall, "wow" in my notes. It gives off big time candy bar vibes, but not in a cloying or sickly over-the-top way, but rather, a boozy adult candy bar. While I can't speak to how this drank fresh, it's drinking incredibly well right now (about two years of age on it.)

Fremont - Brew 3000

Thank you so very much to Brandon for this long-time want!

650ml bottle - purple wax - poured into a snifter at 50°F.

Pours a deep, dark rosewood brown, sitting just a few shades lighter than black, and surrounded by a few sticky brown bubbles that dissipate very quickly, leaving absolutely nothing behind. With a swirl, the ale clings to the glass, leaving legs behind.

Nose: Dense and saturated, B3k explodes out of the glass with imposing aromas of dark toffee, brown sugar, Cavendish pipe tobacco, vanilla bean, burned caramel, toasted muscovado sugar, molasses cookie dough, and maple syrup. There's some dark,fruit elements - primarily Turkish fig, dates, and a kiss of plum,  as well as a unique floral note. Not hops, but sweet summer blossoms. Tons and tons of bourbon-soaked oak. Beautiful.

Palate: B3k greets the palate sweet and malty - quite sweet, almost dessert proportions, with a suggestion of pure maple syrup. Notes of gomemade soft caramel, butter toffee, butterscotch, creme brulée, caramel flambe, vanilla cream, brown sugar, toasted pound cake, and Irish cream all weave together to form a truly dessert-like flavour profile. Just a faint touch of toast - like bread crust, and then the barrel begins to cut through enough to lend a touch of dryness, but not nearly enough to reduce the imposing sweetness. Oaky and woody, with some splintery barrel, barrel char, and secondary vanillin and caramel notes, with a touch of fruity fig, and then bourbon, finishing sweet, with maple syrup and sweet grains.

Mouthfeel/Body: Absolutely full-bodied. Rich, chewy, thick, sticky, and slick, with a bit of viscosity. About as thick as you'd want a barleywine, while possessing just enough fluidity to keep it from drinking completely syrupy. Effervescence is quite low, but there's plenty of bubbles - just very fine and mellow. Sticky lips, and tongue-numbing booze.

Overall: This is a rather tricky one. Taking everything about it into consideration, it is an absolutely world-class barrel-aged barleywine. You can immediately tell that it's a quality ale. Thr maple quality without any maple syrup? Amazing. My one and only real gripe is the sweetness, which I find to be a bit much, hindering the drinkability, as it doesn't really dry out. If you like dessert beers, you may feel it's perfect. Underneath that sweetness, this is still a spectacular beer.
